The Plunge Into Foster Care?
Perry's Mum replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I foster with Koolie Rescue and we generally don't have dogs too long before they are rehomed. We don't have age limits and we also take crosses if we have room. -
For an active intelligent dog think about an Australian Koolie. You can get long or short coats. Very people focussed and love lots of exercise and having their brains trained.

Deaf And Blind Koolie
Perry's Mum replied to indigirl's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Hmm the first Koolie breeder I found that had the "solids are not true Koolies" statement on their homepage is a member of the Koolie club. Please PM me their name and I will raise it withe the Club Committee. -
Deaf And Blind Koolie
Perry's Mum replied to indigirl's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sadly there are. Koolie Club policy for breeders is that only solids are bred to merles to prevent this sort of situation arising. DNA testing shows that solid koolies are just as much koolies as the merle ones. -
Deaf And Blind Koolie
Perry's Mum replied to indigirl's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Koolie Rescue does not take dogs as disabled as this because we cannot rehome him and cannot affford to be a dumping ground for other people's bad decisions. While we have in the past found homes for dogs who were blind or were deaf - nobody wants to take a dog who is both. He is the result of merle to merle breeding and possibly the whole litter were like this. If we take dogs like this it means we have to say no to a healthy dog in need whom we could potentially rehome. Also he is in West Australia and we have no foster carers over there - we are based on the Victoria NSW border. -
I can only give good reports of my vet - they are not cheap but they are very caring and careful.
-
Well if they want a real Australian dog I think they should have a Koolie.

Anthony is fantastic - what awful news. Do we know where he is so we can send him get well cards?

Dog Hair And Car Upholstery A Lifelong Partnership
Perry's Mum replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
A damp rubber sponge works really well with all of the fur my long coated koolie leaves behind in the car. Works well on carpets too and clothes. It has to be rubber, not plastic. -
Koolie Rescue would almost certainly take him and rehabilitate him. We have a lot of experience with ill treated dogs - my own for a start. Where is he physically located? Is he desexed? If you can email me photos to [email protected] I can talk to the coordinator in Echuca.

Once I Was a Lonely Dog Once I was a lonely dog, Just looking for a home. I had no place to go,. No one to call my own. I wandered up and down the streets,. in rain in heat and snow.. I ate what ever I could find,. I was always on the go.. My skin would itch, my feet were sore,. My body ached with pain.. And no one stopped to give a pat. Or to gently say my name.. I never saw a loving glance,. I was always on the run.. For people thought that hurting me. was really lots of fun.. And then one day I heard a voice. So gentle, kind and sweet,. And arms so soft reached down to me. And took me off my feet.. “No one again will hurt you”. Was whispered in my ear.. “You’ll have a home to call your own. where you will know no fear.”. “You will be dry, you will be warm,. you’ll have enough to eat. And rest assured that when you sleep,. your dreams will all be sweet.”. I was afraid I must admit,. I’ve lived so long in fear.. I can’t remember when I let. A human come so near.. And as she tended to my wounds. And bathed and brushed my fur. She told me ’bout the rescue group. And what it meant to her.. She said, “We are a circle,. A line that never ends.. And in the center there is you. protected by new friends.”. “And all around you are. the ones that check the pounds,. And those that share their home. after you’ve been found.”. “And all the other folk. are searching near and far.. To find the perfect home for you,. where you can be a star.”. She said, “There is a family,. that’s waiting patiently,. and pretty soon we’ll find them,. just you wait and see.”. “And then they’ll join our circle. they’ll help to make it grow,. so there’ll be room for more like you,. who have no place to go.”. I waited very patiently,. The days they came and went.. Today’s the day I thought,. my family will be sent.. Then just when I began to think. It wasn’t meant to be,. there were people standing there. just gazing down at me.. I knew them in a heart beat,. I could tell they felt it too.. They said, “We have been waiting. for a special dog like you.”. Now every night I say a prayer. to all the gods that be.. “Thank you for the life I live. and all you’ve given me.. But most of all protect the dogs. in the pound and on the street.. And send a Rescue Person. to lift them off their feet.” . ~Arlene Pace

Is there anyone in Griffiths who can pick up the Koolie from Griffiths Pound and keep her for a few days and put her on the next transport to Echuca please? Koolie Rescue have put their name on her.
-
There certainly is - my first dog Amber was an oldie and she was perfect - all my future dogs will be oldies - I think I am going to open a home for retired and rescued working dogs.

I just got this from the Barking Army Hello: You have reached 123-4567, Tender Hearts Rescue. Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation: Press 1 if you have a 10-year-old dog and your 15-year-old son has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away. Press 2 if you are moving today and need to immediately place your 150 pound, 8-year-old dog. Press 3 if you have three dogs, had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs at the same time. Press 4 if you just got a brand new puppy and your old dog is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away. Press 5 if your little puppy has grown up and is no longer small and cute and you want to trade it in for a new model. Press 6 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home TODAY and pick up the dog you no longer want. Press 7 if you have been feeding and caring for a "stray" for the last three years, are moving and suddenly determine it's not your dog. Press 8 if your dog is sick and needs a vet but you need the money for your vacation. Press 9 if you are elderly and want to adopt a cute puppy who is not active and is going to outlive you. Press 10 if your relative has died and you don't want to care for their elderly dog because it doesn't fit your lifestyle. Press 14 if you are calling at 6 a.m. to make sure you wake me up before I have to go to work so you can drop a dog off on your way to work. Press 15 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog in our yard in the middle of January, which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog with no message. Press 16 if you are going to get angry because we are not going to take your dog that you have had for fifteen years, because it is not our responsibility. Press 17 if you are going to threaten to take your ten year old dog to be euthanized because I won't take it. Press 18 if you're going to get angry because the volunteers had the audacity to go on vacation and leave the dogs in care of a trusted volunteer who is not authorized to take your personal pet. Press 19 if you want one of our PERFECTLY trained, housebroken, kid and cat friendly purebred dogsthat we have an abundance of. Press 20 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighbor's cats. Press 21 if you have already called once and been told we don't take personal surrenders but thought you would get a different person this time with a different answer. Press 22 if you want us to use space that would go to a stray to board your personal dog while you are on vacation, free of charge, of course. Press 23 if it is Christmas Eve or Easter morning and you want me to deliver an eight week old puppy to your house by 6:30 am before your kids wake up. Press 24 if you have bought your children a duckling, chick or baby bunny for Easter and it is now Christmas and no longer cute. Press 25 if you want us to take your female dog who has already had ten litters, but we can't spay her because she is pregnant again and it is against your religion. Press 26 if you're lying to make one of our younger volunteers feel bad and take your personal pet off your hands. Press 27 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because it is declawed, but are not willing to accept the responsibility that the cat's behavior is altered because of your nice furniture. Press 28 if your two year old male dog is marking all over your house but you just haven't gotten around to having him neutered. Press 29 if you previously had an outdoor only dog and are calling because she is suddenly pregnant. Press 30 if you have done "everything" to housebreak your dog and have had no success but you don't want to crate the dog because it is cruel. Press 31 if you didn't listen to the message asking for an evening phone number and you left your work number when all volunteers are also working and you are angry because no one called you back. Press 32 if you need a puppy immediately and cannot wait because today is your daughter's birthday and you forgot when she was born. Press 33 if your dog's coat doesn't match your new furniture and you need a different color or breed. Press 34 if your new love doesn't like your dog and you are too stupid to get rid of the new friend (who will dump you in the next month anyway) instead of the dog. Press 35 if you went through all these 'options' and didn't hear enough. This press will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog while the vet mercifully frees him from the grief of missing his family. ~Author Unknown

Dog Rescue Humour: YOU KNOW YOU'VE BEEN DOING ANIMAL RESCUE TOO LONG WHEN.... 1. You have a mental list of people you'd like to spay, neuter or euthanize. 2. You stopped at a house with a "Free Puppies" sign in the yard to have an Educational "Chat," and end up taking all the Pups. 3. Running out of paper towels is a household crisis. 4. You not only KNOW all the characteristics of a good "stool," you discuss them at dinner. 5. You have a bumper sticker that reads "My PUG Is Smarter Than Your Graduate Student." 6. when you see someone walking their dog you check to see if he’s neutered. 7. You mistakenly call your kids Dr a Vet. 8. You absentmindedly pat people on the head or scratch them behind their ears. 9. You not only allow pets on the couch, guests have to sit on the floor because the dog has "territorial issues." 10. Your spouse without question sleeps on the couch so the new foster can sleep in the bed to feel safe and secure. 11. You and your vet are on a first name basis and he genuflects when you enter the waiting room. His daughter at Harvard refers to you as "Auntie." 12. You needed a prescription to recover from "Old Yeller." 13. You've forwarded more warnings about the dangers of chocolate, onions and mistletoe than the National Center for Disease Control has issued about anthrax and smallpox 14. You wear white year 'round, not because you are flaunting a fashion law or belong to a religious sect but because it is BLEACHABLE. 15. You car is always stocked with Leashes and treats in case you see a stray. 16. You tell your children to "heel!" in a grocery store. 17. For relaxation, you went mall hopping with your girlfriends. Your eyes glazed over when you saw a sign in front of a pet shop, "20% Off All Puppies & Kittens," and you slapped three security guards before they got you safely contained in the manager's office. 18. People are still talking about your spay-neuter holiday greeting from last year, "Deck the Halls with Balls of Collies. 19. People in your neighbor hood come to you with Vet questions... because if your rescue you must have all the answers. 20. They charge you double to clean your car because of the dog hair.
