Anyone got info on mini bull terriers. I know i can just google but who owns one and how big is it. Ive had an amstaff before which was about 25kg. Prefer something the same or smaller

Looking at either Staffy or Aussie bulldog. Only thing is staffies tend to be high energy and attached. Have a small backyard and work full time. Dont know much about aussie bulldogs and wary of new breeds. anyone got info on aussie bulldogs

Thanks DiscoDobe, I was thinking about customs work. Not sure if the hours and nature of work would suite me. I was also thinking of other types of scent detection work, conservation work or pet therapy. Just wondering what else there is out there for work involving dogs.

Does anyone do security work with a dog? Just wondering how it works- Do you provide your own dog? Do you train your own dog privately? Or with the security group?

Westiemum, Thanks. Yes I prefer low shedding and maintenance.

Short hair like staffy. No regular kids over but elderly yes. Prefer trainable to a degree, but not looking for superstar dog or anything What are the Velcro breeds? Small yard. Fencing is colourbond but not that high. 1.5-6 I'm some places Health thing is I prefer not to own breeds like the Bulldog and Sharpei. Purely due to the common health concerns

Hi has anyone had any experience with the 'Dog Behavior Specialist'? I have seen their vans around and just wondering what their approach is all about.

I think your conclusion is correct, but not for the reasons you think. In a culture where dogs live in small apartments, are taken everywhere including cafes etc, and often carried on public transport. By necessity people have to buy small, heavily domesticated dogs who have been bred for placid temperaments. Because Australia has a heavily rural modern history, even our urban dwellings have traditionally had huge back yards, and we tend tend toward s an "outdoor" lifestyle, we have tended towards different breeds. (Often working breeds not far removed from their working ancestry.) Not only do people not worry about lack of "social niceties" in their dogs but a tendency towards guarding property or people is often seen as a good thing. I was in Europe late last year and I can assure you that just because the people have smaller houses does not mean they buy and own smaller, more heavily domesticated dogs. In fact I saw more primitive type dogs there than I ever have and they live in apartments, go on public transport, etc The difference here? Their dogs are trained and expected to behave. People take responsibility for the actions of their animals but they also seem to be aware that a dog is still a dog and will behave as such. I didn't see one child rush up to a dog while I was there, or anyone else trying to pat another persons dog without permission. Nor did I see one off lead dog the entire time. Quiet frankly, it was refreshing. That's great! Seems like they have a good culture around dogs.

Science is just a theory. Science once thought Earth was the centre of the Solar System and all the sun and planets revolved around us :D
