  1. how big is the dog? start with decreasing the chicken mince and adding a little ricotta and fish to it to see how she copes first.
  2. trust me, no peeved off terrier will take handling like that if it felt it ... the handler would be feeling the little dogs wrath very quickly. Most terriers were bred for that and it can be a way of proving the fact the dog has that nice strong tail too.
  3. juice try the tinned fish and cheese, I use ricotta from safeway it's only $5 a big pot (and you get a free strainer!) Homebrand tuna and salmon in spring water is cheap, as is the aldi brand stuff.
  4. Supercoat lite is 17% protein but then again its full of junk fillers. What about a raw diet based on something like fish, cottage cheese, egg and brown rice?
  5. I like eagle pack giant puppy, apart from that most dogs I see on it are a bit dry. Go the vets all natural and they can put in what protein source they like. I also use tinned fish, ricotta cheese, beef, rabbit etc you dont have to just use the same old protein every day.
  6. the bauceron didnt. The difference between a danes/dobes ears and a rotties is quite substantial. Rotties have better ones ;) still dont like the tail look on the docked breeds.
  7. you dont use chemical castration on growing dogs. Tanstaff - To be honest you want to breed a dog you cannot control - your priority is to make this dog safe, handleable and give him a reason to be bred from. If he has no papers or cannot be shown the only people that will want to use him is backyarders. Decide what you want from your dog, I'm happy to help people with their pets, and I have a school in Geelong that is very reasonably priced. email me when you can.
  8. if the breeder cannot take them himself they will be PTS. I dont know anyone else that can handle this many working Malis and my older bitch wont be a well girl if I go first. by this I mean if I die ... if I'm just sick for a while OH can deal with it  I've had a bad back and barely been able to walk at some times since October last year, we managed fine. I can still sit on the back step and throw a ball.
  9. so he has been allowed to be posessive for the past 2 days? So very bad behavior with no consequence or loss of reinforcer. I would be doing more then scolding that boy. The minute he started that staring behavior at a bitch he would have been in huge trouble. You're giving too much allowance with him and that is why he's doing his behaviors at such massive distances. As for peeing, pulling off balance when he's on 3 legs? You've missed the mark well and truely in stopping him. He must learn he's not allowed to even go for a sniff let along get that far to cock his leg. Desexing wont fix this dog, pull him into line ASAP and don't be afraid to correct him for his BS. He's allowed to get away with murder and he's taking full advantage of it, this is personality not hormones.
  10. paw paw cream, just a thin smear and work it into the skin with a clean finger so there is no lumps to get into the eye.
  11. mysticview Panacur is not a mectin based wormer, it is Fenbendazole. You'll find it's going to be the same advice, see a vet for off label prescription as the dogs can suffer allergies to it.
  12. www.greyhoundproductsdirect.com.au I've always used the generics/no label greyhound products and they do the job, just less fancy packaging to pay for
  13. Kaffy try this website www.greyhoundproductsdirect.com.au the sell a lot of worm/heartworm products for dogs and a really cheap price in quantity.
  14. and one should never give or take off label advice for their animals over the internet. The greyhound people use garden pesticides on their dogs for fleas to save money, doesnt mean it's the smart thing to do in the long run.
  15. you need to speak to a veterinarian they're the only ones who can prescribe it for off label use. It is used for demodex at times and worming animals but it's the other chemicals and way its administered that can also cause problems for your dogs.
  16. the twister isnt hard enough lol I found the only two that were entertaining enough were the Dog Finder (blue one) and Dog Brick (brown) even the ferrets adore them ... just keep an eye on the bone shaped cups they tend to end up all over the house lol
  17. becoming a registered breeder takes a couple of years, you cannot apply for a prefix in Vic unless you have been a DogsVic member for 12 months, then you need to pass the relevent tests to get your kennel name. Most health checks you can do between 18 months and 2 years. If your breeder was registered and Augustine is main registered they should be able to help you in becoming registered and finding you a good stud dog to breed with, as well as help you through the process. If Augustine is not main registered you wont have any chance of using pedigree papered stud dogs or registering her puppies which is another consideration for their future. Be wary of some vets though as they have no qualms in telling you to breed your dog as long as she's somewhat standing upright and 'has a good nature'. As for her dietary problems and lack of thrift it would be worth looking into - I don't know what you were feeding before, but were you just feeding the absolute worst on the market or was she just allergic to a major component? Digestive sensitivities can also make life more difficult when a dog is under stress - and a great stress is when pregnant and feeding pups for some dogs. The consideration can be; will her digestive troubles return under hormonal stress and although she looks good now, can her body be resilient enough to support the burden of growing puppies. Yup one thing I do know is what many consider a 'good' diet for a dog here in australia is absolute rubbish. The proliferation of marketing by big companies has not helped the process. I work in a store that sells stock feeds as well as pet foods and honestly most dog foods, especially budget, have ingredients comparable to chicken feed. I cringe when people say just give me the cheapest.
  18. when you say first time dog owner you should assume they wont be in direct contact with an experienced breeder or trainer. Someone with no dog knowledge experience and no one holding their hand with experience in the breed isn't really a great candidate for a dutch shepherd?
  19. you will be hard pressed to find large professional rescues for birds due to disease risks - a friend has rescued before and due to the lack of veterinary knowledge and strict quarantine required he just won't take them any more.
  20. your dog is used to a highly processed diet and for a long time - so he will take a while to get used to better foods or raw even as his digestion will be 'lazy' for lack of a better word. Start slowly, I love the vets all natural diet and a few people I know have noticed a big difference with it as well. A few smaller meals a day with some yoghurt should help him no matter what you choose. And you will see some big sloppy poos for a while after the change, just make sure he stays hydrated in the process.
  21. So Augustine has also passed all her other relevent health tests for the breed? And you're a registered breeder or having someone breed her under a prefix? If your dogs digestion is that sensitive that no food on the market is suitable you shouldnt be breeding. This has nothing to do with your brand of food, I commend you for creating something that the market desperately needs. But a dog that has little dietary resilience should not become a mother.
  22. Artur ... really? First time dog owners with a dutchie and no more then half an hour attention a day?
