Help Please - Anxious Dog With No Off Switch
Nekhbet replied to *kirty*'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Mum ran dry within a day, 3 pups died the 5 remaining were very very thin. I thought she was dead but she squeaked. Milk only came back in 4 nipples and she was the smallest of the lot and needed vet work done. So basically I got a bit angry and kept the weakest... litter that should not have happened. -

Turned 3 weeks old yesterday :) Scuse the plastic tub, I'm not a torturer but she's so nimble she can climb out of most things and run off under furniture  -
I would take the puppy back, outline a refund, that the dog is contractually obliged to be returned if there is a fault (throw the vet report back onto her if they want to play like that) and a refund will be provided in cash. Life is too short for people like this. Seizures my butt. If this is how it starts they won't get any better.

They read and supposedly understood (which is what signing means) the terms in purchasing this puppy. No I would not give them a red cent at all until your vet has seen the dog and has spoken to the vet in question as well. Have they signed a microchip transfer form? If not I would rock up on their doorstep.

Searching For Accredited Delta Trainer
Nekhbet replied to Pockets's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I put two of my dogs into Delta pet therapy. There's nothing special you have to do as long as your dog is reasonably obedient, won't maul anyone and is not totally untrained you will pass. If you need a hand I can help but I don't think you really need to waste the money on a 'prepper' course. -
Yup ... Ed actually at one point admitted he was wrong ... That's big from a man who still owes me a total personal apology lol

She's still under the average so I'm going to try goats milk. The constipation from the formula is never ending too so I want to solve that ASAP. 3 pups from the litter died just before I got there and I only managed to get the last 4 teats producing so leaving her there was no option since there was 5 pups left It's good to see also a few developmental exercises in action and working. The vet said she is quite advanced in her movement and vocal ability :) she can walk following your finger, albeit a little wobbly, and my goodness can she climb!!! She's been banished to a very deep plastic tub for a bed otherwise she's out wandering!

They love him and so far so good :D looks like forever home! -
I'm never having children ... colic, teething, constipation, dehydration, $300 worth of vet so far ... and she's 2 weeks old yesterday  her mother dried up almost fully after a couple of days and when I went to see, I thought she was dead as she was so tiny and boney (400g) until she squeaked. But look at her now! Eyes open, lungs like a banshee and toddling about! I'm not going to keep her permanently, I'll let my mum raise her a little and learn a bit as I want her to help me with a couple of Malinois puppies I'll run on from the litter at the end of the year. A friend of mine is in love so she can have her if she likes or I'll give her to someone else I know only.

Dont go to a petstore there are ebay sellers in Melbourne a lot cheaper. http://stores.ebay.com.au/PUPPY-POWER-PET-PRODUCTS If Tamara is not answering give Judy a ring at ProK9. Treats will not solve the howling. The dog doesn't understand, it's anxious, worked up. If someone left you grief stricken at home with a buffet you probably wouldn't touch it either due to heightened emotion. The dog needs to learn how to behave, that's it is going to be alone sometimes and it has to deal with it. Don't try and aim straight for love it, aim for deal with it first because you're trying to make too big a leap for the dog to cope with. Now it's on medication too it's mind will be up, down and everywhere so you will be having to factor that in as well. Remember the level a kelpie is usually expected to work at. Hard focus, long hours. A few toys and treats are OK for maybe a cavalier but start treating her like a working dog. Wear her out. Flirt pole, obedience, scent games, wear that brain out until the dog wants to pass out. She looks rather well fed which means things are easily gained. The brain is coming up with things to do at the level she needs, not a kong with some easily gained food. Chewing and digging are a challenge you know!

Well friend of a friend ... he's now moved in with a lovely young couple, their BC bitch and has a farm to access as the parent's place ;) he's already chased a duck and gone swimming in the dam. They adore him, their own BC is a very working type so he's chilled out comparably lol let's see if he's gonna stick this time :D one of my clients took him for a week for me to socialise he's a great little dog. -
The dog needs major behavioral work and a reboot. She's learning fear is the method of coping so now she's expanding her repertoire. Call someone ASAP, don't treat her like a poor rescue dog. Put her in a crate, get her up, get her moving with you and she gets attention and treats when she pulls herself out of her fearful cringing behavior. Life's too short to coddle a dog especially now she's on medications. Your road will be downhill not up if you don't do something fast. I know it's hard when it's a rescue dog but trust me... many, many dogs we have brought around. I kept one myself.

Dog Training And Boarding Recommendations

I was going to suggest Pet Resorts Australia for boarding and training if you need it -
Hi All - Searching For Another Family Member!
Nekhbet replied to Mercedes's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a dag of a border collie you can see if he's a good fit. He needs attention and someone at home :) He's not very big either and doesn't need a massive amount of exercise, he just needs a family. Oh and lowest maintenance coat on the planet, trust me he barely has any coat which is magical! -
I had a problem with my Dogue and put him on Eagle Pack Giant when he was a pup. That is quite severe knuckling particularly when you're already feeding a food that is not very high in protein. I would be taking him to a veterinarian to check out what is going on. Oh, do NOT desex him until he's an adult if you're having problems like these. Testosterone is a growth hormone.

I thought shooting a dog as a method of euthanasia was legal in Australia? As was disposal of non-medical waste? I see why they're suddenly on this like a fat kid on a cupcake but it's a bit too little too late. Taskforce pffft. When I was at vet school the university lab manager would go get fresh greyhounds every week, a boot full of them, for us to use for dissection. One had about 5 puppies still inside. Where was the 'taskforce' then?
-
A dog not used to that situation and particularly being and Aussie - how was it going to end? Treat it like it's at a boarding kennel. Crate it, walk it, outside time then back in the crate for it's own good. Dogs with no skills left to free run this is what happens. Man you need a dog run set up in your backyard :p

When I do assessments I do as little as possible to 'sway' the animal. I barely interact with him since he's come back, leave the door open for him to come and go as he pleases (including while I'm in bed) and nothing is 'happening' to make me think he's acting like damaged goods. I have 2 bitches on heat too at the moment as well (yay me) and he's still getting along fine. so friend of a friend of a friend it is then  -

Well what a load of codswallop... There's nothing wrong with the dog at all. I've taken him out, he's loving life, loves people, children, other dogs etc. Happy as a pig in the proverbial. Quiet as a mouse at home I have even lent him out during a dog school class and he was a champ doing agility and some basic obedience. Fantastic under distraction. I'm not bothering with petrescue again I don't have the time. I'm going to just find someone locally and people have the feelers out unless someone here on DOL wants to try him on home trial.
