Genetic Issue In <1yo Dog - Breeder Responsibility?
Nekhbet replied to Mike Echo's topic in General Dog Discussion
likey to be genetic or confirmed? Did you contact the breeder before the surgery at all and discuss the problem? If you got it from a decent breeder you probably signed that the breeder was meant to be notified as soon as a problem arose, not after. This is something to discuss with them, not on a dog forum. -
Well that turned into a total schamozzle ....

Considering bad publicity is usually the death of a company and it's shares/profits quickly, why do people immediately think that companies sponsor illegal activities so publicly? It also makes them criminally liable for being involved. The unfortunate thing is that promotional material is too readily available and logos are easy to put around as much as you like.

K9 Noseworks Seminar & Workshop Melbourne
Nekhbet replied to Staff'n'Toller's topic in General Dog Discussion
Trisven I want to send you a PM but I can't :p -
Mums pomeranian has plenty of prey drive, he goes mental for his little raspberry shaped ball  If your dog has prey drive, you can train in prey no matter the breed. But it's what the dog finds the most rewarding that will dictate how you reward the dog. You can still get motivation, movement and excitement using food, the problem is many people don't use it in the right way to get a similar level of reward in a dog that loves it so much :) All rewards should only ever be the intermediary between you and the dog anyway, it should not be the whole reward for the dog.

3 up themselves ambulls could easily turn into a mauling... dog pack, one dog encourages another and it all turns to poop. You're right a lot of the bull breeds are not suitable for bitework, they tend to take it too far. I've dealt with a BY trained drug guard dog, it was absolutely mental and unstoppable (Aussie bulldog from lines that shows aggression anyway) People seem to miss the fact that protection and aggression are not one and the same thing, hence they just buy big tough angry dogs and poke them with a stick until they finally snap and can't be controlled anymore. I've seen fear aggressive dogs pushed to become protection dogs too, absolutely unstoppable. Once again, like I said, too many shit temperaments around that need to be culled from the gene pool. Be it overly aggressive or too weak nerve/overly reactive.

if it was wire there would be a bigger tear and there would be blood everywhere. Either some sick person cut it off or a dog got it, they grab face/ears easily if trying to pull a prey animal down. It's weird though that only the ear is missing.

Let the dog guide you, young grasshopper  some dogs respond faster then others. The more pressure you put for performance you can find the less interest the dog can show in you. Enjoy the dog, get to know it's personality, little quirks etc and let him settle in and explore his surroundings properly.

I wonder if he wanted 3 big, muscled status symbols. I see it publicly stated, oh hide your dogs by calling them something else. Genius. It's why councils like COGG are going around to all the dog registered and checking visually - no pedigree papers, call it a purple people eater for all they care you're in trouble. What I hate though is the crying about seizure. Plenty of legal avenues to own a bull breed, the fact they flout the law and put the DOG in that horrible predicament - what can I say. Idiots at their best.

Don't train the dog, bond and play with him. He's new, unsure and looking for guidance :)

Someone Is Trying To Rehome A Malinois
Nekhbet replied to Remarkabull's topic in General Dog Discussion
If he's failed temp he's probably fine to take on. They're not monsters, just fast paced dogs that need a quick owner and don't let them get away with an inch, they take 10 miles  I've met a few pure working lines that you couldnt make them bite even if it was the last resort for the dog. -
Someone Is Trying To Rehome A Malinois

They're the new tough fashion dog. Rare breed, google the photos and all you get is Sch/KNPV/LE, phwaar let's get us a tough dog to guard the place. Enough BYBers out there too breeding bad temperament dogs. There's a couple of old stud dogs that really screwed a lot of Malinois, there are lines I would not touch with a 10 foot pole. Dog gets out of control quickly, bites the owner, bingo bango, young dogs free or dumped because few people know how to train or manage them. -
let's call it the colloquialism of aggression ... aggressive response, lack of impulse control etc.
-
Very valid points here. Do we want to know why dog aggression is on the rise? Because we've lost the plot. - we're brainwashed against equipment and corrections - If I want to fix a dog properly I'm apparently a cruel person. Uh huh. - dogs are accessories or furry children - the attitude of everything being the dogs fault is overly pervasive and expectations are too high - dogs apparently come pretrained and know everything - no one trains or socialises their damn dog properly anymore - more and more decent trainers are leaving, closing up shop or have hands tied by laws - people keep breeding and rescuing dogs with shit temperaments. There's no quality control for a lot of the dog population, those that would either be euthed or shot are alive and kicking, causing havoc. Sorry but overall in Australia we have no idea what we're doing. We're creating the problem ourselves and blaming the dogs for it. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

Spinosid, Comfortis, D I Y Flea Meds?
Nekhbet replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
artificial and pure natural pyrethrin are two very different things. Cats too cannot tolerate pyrethroids but I've dipped 5 week old kitties and ferreties in the natural stuff for flea infestation no problems - not even a sneeze :p -
Someone Is Trying To Rehome A Malinois
Nekhbet replied to Remarkabull's topic in General Dog Discussion
At least he's desexed. The Belg club of NSW do Mals, I'm trying to coordinate Working Belian Malinois rescue down here in Vic as they're becoming dumped at an incredible rate down here, along with crosses. If not, there is a chance for a better home in QLD/NSW then in NT. If he does go to Rescue get them to email me and I'll give them all the support they want and write up a regime for them. I offer free support for rescue if they take in a Malinois. I've been in the breed 10 years as well as protection training and other sports. A few have been in rescue over the years, one rescue has had one for almost a year in Melb, they're notoriously hard to rehome as well down here, part of it is their reputation (and the fact they carry on like pork chops for no reason) the other is a lack of suitable retraining. I myself have one from the pound, she had the drive literally beaten/fried out of her and was dumped in the country to starve to death. There have been 2 other pure Mals at the geelong pound and a couple of crosses within 18 months. -
He did the Gentle Modern School of Dog Trainers course and honours in reptile behavior.

King Charles Cavalier- Good For Families?
Nekhbet replied to dappledgrey's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can tell you they're awesome dogs, always happy and so loving :D From a good breeder they're a lifetime of joy, very tolerant and family orientated -
If she's on a good puppy giant dry like Eagle Pack or Royal Canin, just feed her a few small meals a day and let her put the weight on slowly. Her feet could be dietary or due to lack of muscle, Ams seems to be on the pulse with good vets :)

It means the dog is favouring the front end for whatever reason if there is disproportion like that. My Bordeaux had the same problem. Massage and gentle movement consistently along with supplements will help build up the rear end without causing pain. Slow and steady, thats the best way to build muscle and regular chiro to help keep her in top top shape. Muscle is sustainable when built slowly, you find there is less required to maintain it that way. Also some soaked minute oats added to the meat can be good too during winter, make a meaty, muscle pro porridge

Tylosin is not an antibiotic - it's a bacteriostatic agent. It slows the growth (and prevents them reproducing) of susceptible bacteria and is actually a product from another bacteria. It's a survival mechanism from the producing bacteria, slow the growth of others and it gives you a chance to take over. If it killed other bacteria it would probably kill them too, not very useful in the overall survival of your species :p When you remove a bacteriostat the bacteria resume normal metabolic activity. Antibiotics inhibit bacterial growth or kill them completely. It's why they have a greater effect because they can severely diminish the populations of normal bacteria colonising the animal, which in turn potentially makes more available food/space for nasties to take over - this in turn totally disrupts the whole symbiotic relationship thing we got going on. It's that technicality which gets Tylosin into the product.

My thoughts exactly And mine. Social media has given people a whole new audience for conspicuous compassion. Amen to that. I too agree. The dog has had a few surgeries just to live in 'comfort'. What I find hypocritical is the fact everyone is up in arms the breeder was going to sell her to a Freak Show ... what's the difference with what is happening now? The dog paraded here, there and everywhere for no real cause. It's not for the dogs benefit, it really is for the people's benefit. If I had found a dog like that it would be at peace now. That is not rescue.

The type of protein will depend on what he problem is. My bitch had acidosis in the back end and needed muscle build up but high meat would have made it worst. I used eggs, ricotta cheese, tinned salmon and milk powder to get her back into condition. You can look into Sprinter Gold Muscle Pro powder as well it's incredible stuff for rebuilding or building up muscle. You put the dose in with a bit of meat and water (I make a porriage consistency with it, warm) after some light exercise. http://www.sprintergold.com/

Well when you're into drugs you need something to protect your stash. They're the worst druggies dogs, no control, absolutely mental animals. I had the unfortunate privilege of temp testing one down here, the dog was out of control and countless stitches would have been the best case scenario if you had a run in with it. As for him, setting your dogs on a teenager? Right piece of scum. This is what happens when people have enough of being terrorised.

Spinosid, Comfortis, D I Y Flea Meds?
Nekhbet replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It's not the active ingredient you necessarily worry about but the suspensory chemicals with them that can cause burns, skin conditions or worst, poison the dog. I've heard a couple of greyhound guys doing it but we never really heard from them again O_o Have you tried neem oil, diatomaceous earth and pure pyrethrin (not the artificial stuff) I find the pure pyrethrin products to literally kill even stubborn fleas almost on the spot and I just spritz it on. I use it when the bogans mangy cats come over and shed their fleas when we bring the dogs where we're renovating.
