  1. There is a new product just on the market from Virbac called Cortavance. Its a corticosteroid in a spray form for contact allergies and wont cause weight gain etc like the tablet forms. Will last you longer and do a better job
  2. I hate you I hate you I hate you ... seething in jealousy now
  3. Eagle Pack Giant puppy ... cant recommend it highly enough it did wonders for my Bordeaux
  4. Stop washing her now. Get her on a better dry food ASAP she is lacking essential oils and Zinc for her skin. Something like Royal Canin, eagle Pack, Advance etc medium/large breed puppy and keep up the chicken necks. You can also add some flax seed oil or a product called Megaderm to her diet. Lucky Dog is not a complete puppy food
  5. Innotek BC200 - works on a Malinois no worries and it does have levels. You can leave it to automatically adjust from level 1 as he keeps barking or start at a higher level.

    Cant Wait?

Whatever you get, you should have it desexed and tell your mother to leave breeding to the professionals. Their privates only stick out if you leave them in. 6 months is plenty old enough to be castrated and he wont cock his leg if your other dogs are desexed as well. Or does your mum plan on letting them have litters too? 3 bitches is a bad idea, a male would be better.
  7. its chamomile tea - we used it on everything including chickens when we were younger. Always make sure the water has fully boiled from the kettle first and let it cool slightly before steeping the herb. Same with the salt. Brolene will work as well we have it here in the clinic for milb conjuctivitis. Make sure there isnt a nasal or toothe problem causing the weeping though.
  8. how about adding some bran (like from the supermarket) to the meals? How does the dog react to brown rice? Some roughage the gut has to work for may be the way to go? The diet just sounds a bit defficient in fibre to me
  9. I would personally remove the tumour now while it is still a reasonable size instead of letting it spread futher. Or if it has spread far through the bone the option of euthanasia when proper investigation has occured. I wouldnt remove the jaw - our vet here knows of one dog that had half its lower jaw removed and it still reoccured (started as an Epulis) and the dog looked horrible.
  10. Can we please stop quoting American vaccine sites please. We do not use those products and we DONT VACCINATE FOR RABIES so the protocol will be different. Jeezus. C3 here in Australia is Parvo, Distemper and Hepatitis. C5 Includes Viral and Bacterial components of kennel cough. Start finding information about Australian vaccinations and then make a decision.
  11. call me skeptical ... a product that is low carb but is 25% fruit and veg and full of floral extracts ... since when did wild dogs dig up potatos? I dont get it. Hey can we do a study on how dogs kidneys cope with this high level of protein? and growing giant breeds? Holy cr@p! I just saw the large breed puppy is 70% protein and 'special low-ash chicken and fish ingredients, ORIJEN PUPPY LARGE avoids the high ash levels—and subsequently elevated calcium and phosphorus—that are a common concern for large breed puppy owners on high-protein diets" uhh I wouldnt be putting any of my dogs on this stuff soon
  12. Royal Canin has a prescription diet of Hypoallergenic DR21 - no meat in there at all. See how the dog copes on that
  13. Vet at our clinic took a squiz ... make sure the sample of bone is biopsied and sent off to the lab. If it isnt benign take off as much as you can (a decent margin) me? I went through something similar with my OHs staffie. If it was going to be lower jaw removal I would have taken euth - not fair on the dog.
  14. I barely use check chains unless absolutely required and other methods have not gotten results. Never on a 4 month old without my supervision and unless there was few other ways. I helped a staffy that was on a flat collar, was a steam train on a leash and nothing would help with that collar. Had him walking nicely within 5 minutes with a check chain and now even the little kids help walk him because he no longer pulls. Time and place for everything.
  15. I grabbed chicken necks/wings and chopped them into bits (wings into 3rds and necks into half) then call the dog and make it sit quietly in front of you. Offer the food and if it jumps towards it pull your hand away and repeat the sit. Slowly move the food foreward but if the dog gets more excited pull the food back towards you. When the dog is calm say 'eat' or a command you have to eat and the dog should take the food gently and eat it there in front of you. You are controlling the food and decreasing the anxiety the dog has over raw food. You are in close proximity to the dog (hence being in its personal space) with the raw food and only providing it when the dog is calm. You can pat the dogs head while its chewing, if it growls whilst eating that small piece I get up growl at the dog and remove it from your proximity (put it outside etc) so the dog will learn that it has no need to fight you for food but it will receive no more because its behaviour is unacceptable. Progress to larger items (whole necks and wings) when the dog is happy to be touched with tiny bits. Although some people want to be able to put their hand in their dogs mouthes (and I can with all my lot in case they have stolen a bone from the other dog I take it back) slowly and a little at a time you will progress. You can even get a bigger bone (like whole wing) and let the dog chew it while you hold it. If it gets crabby pull it back and no attention or food for at least an hour.
  16. I feed my dogs nothing but Royal Canin dry and lamb bones every few days - I have never fed any of them offal. The only issue I have is that butchers tend to let the dog meat sit in substandard conditions and it ends up stinking the house out by the time I get it home. If its from a human butcher and human quality I wouldnt do any worrying. If your dog is around sheep, sheep paddocks or ever eats anything from the knackery then I would worm with something like Milbemax, Sentinel/Interceptor Spectrum, or Drontal DRONCIT tablets to cover for Hydatic Tapeworm. They cysts can be in the meat as well, not just the organs.
  17. Get a good trainer/behaviourist to visit and make a plan. Make the rules and boundries very clear from the first day, dont treat her like a charity case. Huskies dont just bark they can yodel and screech so dont let it put you off. If hse came from such a poor home then she probably has not been very well handled - consider her to be an 8 week old puppy and socialise that dog as much as you can. Make sure she's been well vaccinated and wormed too
  18. Eagle Pack giant breed formula - absolutely excellent for poorly conformed puppies and grows them slowly. I used it on my DDB and it worked a treat for his skin adn flat feet
  19. I dont correct dogs with correction chains up under their chin - NEVER give a hard check unless you want to hurt her throat. Dominant dog collars are made for that area NOT chains. She could be coming into season and hence she's changing but if she has been a little more difficult to train then 1 on 1 help is better at home.
  20. We have a 3 week old boxer puppy that has been hand raised since it was a couple of days old It hasnt defecated for over 24hrs but still nothing, but it wants to eat, any gas coming out stinks and it isurinating but no dehydrated
  21. There is a difference between drugs like Cartrophen/Pentosan etc and CarProfen (which is an anti inflammatory tablet) two different things. Have a better squiz at the labels. And since the injections go on the dogs current weight its easier to grab a per ml dosage then a tablet.
  22. what size needle are they using? yes smaller is nicer but they can be hard to get through tougher skin hence making it a little more traumatic if she has to be manhandled and eveyone is worrying the needle will fail again.
  23. Unfortunately its a prescription drug as far as I know. THere are online stores with Australian addresses but they shouldnt be selling it
  24. Intersusseption? Get an X-ray done ASAP just because the vet cant feel anything doesnt mean its not there (how many owners have been told the vet couldnt feel puppies?!) Morphine/Temgesic to stop the cramping and get it more comfortable (morphine will make it vomit once but it will improve) the dog is in extreme gut pain and that is causing half the problems. Metomide can stop the vomiting but in larger doses can cause cramping - so watch out if there IS something stuck it may make it worst. ETA - get the poo looked at or take a sample from just inside the dogs anus, check for unusual bacteria. If there is no poo coming out at all get that dog X-rayed and opened up NOW
