my rotty was very ill on Rimadyl as well. Despite the bloody price of it. He was in pain, vomited, stomach cramps etc and stopped eating completely go see a holistic vet if your dog has suspected Pano he could need some exercises and massage, and get him onto a proper food like Eagle Pack Giant. Low protein but balanced diet give it a go.

it also comes with a bottle of vodka and 3 valium tablets, as well as a blow dart gun loaded with tranquilisers ... calm, gentle and effective

but we have to be friends with them and tra la la through the fields of daisies, hand in paw, together into the sunset. god forbid we hurt a dogs feelings. If we grew up and stopped pandering to most dogs attitudes and problems we wouldnt need most of this stuff. I love my dogs, I spoil them, but ultimately they are still a dog. Not my furry substitute for a child. They sleep in the garage, they wear correction chains when walking together, and they are not allowed to have an opinion on whether or not they like what I have put in their bowl or if they want their nails trimmed today.

Can people just socilise their dogs. Really the products are getting rediculous. Gentle this, humane that blah blah most of these products CAUSE more stress then they actually prevent. A dog is not a horse. A dog is not a dolphin. Its a carnivorous, four legged pack animal - for the past how many hundreds of years have people trained dogs without all this junk. All this is just for a dog to exist in day to day life! Christ ... now I have heartburn.

if it's bright red fresh blood it is probably from the bones or a stomach infection. If it is dark VET right now. This means it comes from higher in the digestive tract and needs medical attention ASAP

Gsd Royal Canin.. Anyone Use It?
Nekhbet replied to charli73's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Maize is corn and no they are totally different. My Belgian was on Eagle Pack when she was a puppy, but she has been on RC Maxi for a couple of years now. I love the stuff I have all my dogs on it (well not at the mo because I'm a bit pov) but that is her breakfast then a chicken carcass for dinner. I prefer that diet but she is on chicken carcasses, meat offcuts, rice and veges. She looks good but the muscle tone is better on the RC. Take a look at the RC website. RC has a money back guarentee take the bag back you will get a refund. -

RC doesnt put wheat in its food. There is a RC Maxi in the blue bag (oddly enough with a GSD on the front ) This is the Junior 32 for large breed pups up to 15 months old Ingredients: Maize, dehydrated poultry meat, L.I.P* vegetable protein isolate, maize gluten, animal fats, L.I.P* animal proteins, maize flour, hydrolysed animal proteins, minerals, beet pulp, soya oil, fish oil, fructo-oligosaccharides, psyllium husks and seeds, egg powder, L-lysine, hydrolysed yeast extract (rich in mannan-oligo-saccharides), DL-methionine, taurine, hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin), marigold extract (rich in lutein). ETA The GSD formula is made for dogs with a 7pH level. The reps told me its not a good idea to raise other breeds on this diet as it may be detrimental to their skin. GSD junior is only 30% protein, GSD adult is 24%. That is not too much for a dog of that breed. -

I would put Ivy on the large breed RC not the GSD. She's not a GSD she's a Belgian and there are differences in the breeds. Keep the diet even. Dont bounce it around otherwise there is no way you are providing steady nutrition especially if she is allowed to chose what she eats. She should be getting 2 meals a day any way so what I did was dry in the AM and fresh in the afternoon. -
she's a complete dufus ... do you think she cared ... nope. Still has a pink scar on her lip to this day they do it to give us a heart attack I reckon

not knowing about greyhound training I cant completely comment... BUT being european I will anyway Smart dog. I think like any dog more regular training in a group situation to see if it does exhibit traits that suggest it will have issues then fix them, maybe with using more experienced dogs with it etc. Sometimes accidents happen, some dogs dont care. At lure coursing my Malinois grabbed the running line and it was still moving so slashed her lips and gums. She kept chasing and it never even dinted her enthusiasm ahhh prey drive

does he have a command? my dogs are taught a command to eat or take offered food and I find if they hear the command they are gentle even walking. I start with offering a fist with food in the middle. If the dog bites i growl and remove the hand. The point is that the dog should sniff and lick to get the mind going 'ahh there is food there, how do I get it' and not 'OMG FOOD CHOMP" which is counterproductive. When the dog is interested but not nipping i turn my hand over and slowly open my fingers to offer the food. My dogue was taught this way and despite his massive head he is so gentle when he takes food, he sort of sucks it into his mouth with his lips. do this at a sit, or go back to the palm routine while he is at a sit and start again with him. He gets food when he is calm and ONLY when he is calm then you say the word. Dont say 'Eat' *offer* chomp 'NO BAD DOG' - a dog does not understand being told off for complying.

it pops up because people allow them to do it. They think its cute when they snap or dont take it seriously hence escalating. Also they think 'oh its a foxie, he'll do that' not true. Dogs will not suddenly just 'turn' either its a pretty outdated concept because people could not read the warning signs. So in their eyes the dog did just 'turn'. Well you get enough info and for about 2 years the dog HAD been growling, marking, baring teeth, posessing furniture etc but then he just TURNED

I Need Help With Trialling A Very Stubborn Breed!
Nekhbet replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
rubbish you cannot motivate her - the trainer is too closed minded. there is always something that motivates a dog. Not hungry? well then she only gets fed during training times. doesnt want toys? if she has any prey drive at all then start removing toys and only playing with her during training times. All other time no toys or basic toys that are mediocre in her eyes you have to build drive. It doesnt just appear, it just takes a little more time in some dogs then others. Also look at your own behavior is your frustration impacting her performance, are you becoming exasperated at her without realising? if its not fun the dog wont work. -

How Expensive Are Dog Trainers
Nekhbet replied to Raven's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I slit my own throat on this. I charge $80 for the initial consultation (it takes longer and there is more discussion involved) then $60 for ongoing - 1 1/2 hrs. I was charging $50 for 2 hours until another trainer smacked me upside the head and told me I was selling myself WAY too short. True. It is a lot of wear and tear on my car, the travel time, equipment I need to buy etc. I still feel bad charging people too much though -
they are probably still a bit sore and need some time out. Its quite a procedure for a dog and her hormones will be all over the place. If you are the boss you wont have problems. Dont fuss over them but give them a bit of space

catgut is not the best for holding external wounds together. Yeah they TEND to pop especially if you trim the ends. Hence synthetics. Glue can sometimes take some pressure off the stitches (before it gets to this stage not when already like this) and that wound has not really been stitched properly at all. WEIA is right that looks like amateur blanket stitch then a surgeons work.
-
skin glue Dermabond or anything similar is handy to have in these situations. You can always pop some on before stitches are due to pop out

clinics will be going through Lyppards or other suppliers for their dog foods ... check out the catalogues as well as when the reps come in from the companies. There is a lot on offer from both drug suppliers and dog food companies to keep vets 'loyal' as it were.
-
hasnt anyone seen the dinners, vouchers, stock discounts, merchandise, side deals etc that go with some companies? must have just been my old boss then.
-
Dont chop and change diets - Just Midniara will be able to give you advice on what is the right combo for her dogs as for vets not advocating raw - yes they do get lovely kickbacks from pet food companies. Its rubbish what they scare people into buying I never have touched Hills and refuse to. Also many dont know about raw diets and hence just tell you to buy what is off the shelf even if its not the best thing ultimately for the dog.
-
go with raw only and be careful the meats used as well. Either that or try a food like eagle pack holistic
-
sometimes it is the OHs that need the spraying ... I still get 'but the dogs dont listen to me'

Eagle Pack Power Vs Great Barko
Nekhbet replied to witheverythingiam's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Great Barko INGREDIENTS Great Barko is formulated from a selection of the following ingredients. Cooked meat or meat by-products derived from beef, lamb, chicken, pork, cooked fish or fish by-products, fat, cooked cereals, wheaten bran. Canola and soy products derived from them. Lysine, methionine, antioxidant, bentonite, vitamins and minerals. Vitamins: A, D3, E, K, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B6 (pyridoxine), B12, niacin, pantothenate, folic acid and biotin. Minerals: Calcium, phosphorus, sodium, chloride, cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium and zinc. I cant feed because of the cereal content and the ingredients are too vague for me (already had one bald dog this year ). Raws doing them good at the moment until I can get back onto RC ETA Its got the similar ingredients to Pedigree dog food and exactly the same protein and fat, just without the colours and preservatives -
just with dormitor. Cat castrations have just been done on other IVs as well. This was a while back, didnt like that vet much ... rabbit castration dormitor + O2
