  1. you smart lady!!! I said that too ... then came the GSD, then came the Malinois ...
  2. looking clean at least MIssyMoo god they're turds arent they my boys have had blues and once you clean the drool and blood away I always found it just looked a heck of a lot worst until I washed it. Malinois did do a flying attack once across the rottie (when she's overexcited she's like a viper that dog ) and gave him a 5cm gash on his back. Just nicked the skin. Shave, betadine and superglue. Would never know it happened
  3. they sure are PF my mums you just pluck out this little tufts of undercoat *sigh* I dont know why a slicker was given unless the dog has very thin hair those things dont remove a lot of dead coat at all. As for shedding more after a groom i havnt seen that in my dogs I must admit when I groomed i blasted the dead coat out with the dryer, raked out what the dryer could not pick up and the shedding was minimal after even with the Malinois.
  4. magpie the point was about the use of PHYSICAL punishment not just 'punishment'. She doesnt use physical punishments at all as far as I can see. she uses noises to break the dogs concentration and allow an opportunity to redirect, she uses negative punishment where she removes something the dog wants but she does not use physical punishments which IMO she should not say she can fix 'anything'.
  5. I dont know what it is about that reduced fat formula but this is what happened to my rottie phenergen and baths. Since this incident his skin seems permanently ruined he's having to be bathed at least once a week and scratches or nibbles all the time. No idea why he reacted so badly
  6. since when does victoria stillwell use a prong, check chain etc ... following Cesar is more because he's realistic and has a clue, not a stupid costume. Come on I saw her chastise a person for putting their GSD in a crate 'oh get him out of that cage' whoo haaa .... ugh
  7. well they will listen to OH then he does sneakies like 'awww come on then' and lets then get away with it well serves him right that he doesnt have perfect control then when you behave like that! he's such a cat person
  8. he hasnt been weaned off properly. Inconsistancy and continuously rewarding a dog that has little respect for you means he's just performing for the food NOT for her. Decrease the size of the food to literally crumbs and add a pat, then wean to a pat or a 'good dog'.
  9. depends what she wants ... does she want an obedience champion or a quiet pet? sometimes people get too caught up in obedience tricks and dont end up actually making a dent in the dogs attitude. I teach those things secondary to control, attitude and behavior NOT as a preliminary step. I also dont insist on strict times to consciously stand there and train the dog tricks. Do it as part of your life! He wants his dinner - there's an opportunity. Wants attention - another opportunity. Walk time - another. Easier for the owner too and creates good habits in both parties especially those people who have trouble dedicating themselves to a structured routine peeing on her ... could be anything. The fact she came home late he could have been showing his displeasure at HER not sticking to HIS routine and hence he asserted the fact she is a possession to him. He does sound like he has more testosterone then he needs so OFF WITH HIS GOOLIES!!! I will say one thing though ... in my house doggies dont listen really to their daddy bit or a role reversal although the malinois WILL mother him like a puppy and make goo goo eyes at him
  10. honestly? betadine for all. For the dogs make a solution that looks like weak black tea, grab a syringe (no needle on the end) and squirt it into the puncture wound the squeeze out the remnants. Pick off any scabs that form to keep it open and it will heal. My dogs like to play very rough Phenergen can help them sleep but honestly - any wounds like that here dont see a vet and no one has had an infection. Pain also makes the rotters settle down and take a break instead of bounding about on pain killers. god I sound like a meany For yourself and because you are pregnant go to the doctor ASAP to get a course of ABs or whatever safe jabs. Better safe then something that could really make you sick or your baby.
  11. the dog is not underweight ... my Krueger came to me at your bitches weight at he was emaciated BUT twice her size. Dont worry about her she's fine as she is, if its a cold day or cold where she sleeps give her more warmth.
  12. it can be a male thing, and the dog is seeing her as more his possession then leader, and is 'hanging out in the boys club' ... basically the dog is being a cheuvanistic pig is the dog desexed at all? better NOW before he really hits adulthood. If he's pee'd on her at this age he needs desexing ASAP.
  13. if the dog has peed on her the dog has no respect for her at all. Same with the cars the dog is exhibiting prey drive and her lack of control and probably stress and frustration exacerbates the problem. Same with the button. Herding breeds seem to be great at this, my Malinois occasionally in the back of the car tries to jump at a car or bike that really zips bye so has a woof! professional help is a number one. She needs help with control, suppress some of that prey drive and have some ground rules with the dog so he knows that no matter HOW MUCH he wants that car he's not allowed to.
  14. I dont believe in having to teach everything to a command. When you sit outside the dog is to settle down. He can sit, drop, stretch out etc but he has to settle. If he arcs up again spray - UH UH and ignore him until he's doing what you want.
  15. personally? call a trainer in to help. If you are roaring and they are ignoring you then SOMETHING is not right in the situation. Its very strange for them to just ignore you when you're making that much noise! they still need the one on one time but I think getting a professional opinion will be better. There may be other parts of their lives that need tweaking as well in order to get everything happy again
  16. tlc - yup. Hence i work on the owner more then the dog.
  17. Isnt it marketed as 'it's me or the dog' *oh naughty naughty me back in your box Nekkers*
  18. my Mal did it for the sake of it. You could walk her, play with her, work her, run her ragged and if she wanted to have a woof WELL she had a woof. I am not home 24/7, she has canine company but loves running about. If sparrows have a fight WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF ha ha told you so. Kid squeals next door same thing. Someone breathes 3 blocks away WOOF WOOF HA TAKE THAT TOLD YOU SO *sigh* she's just a vocal dog. Thank christ she shuts up when she sleeps E collar worked on her but if not I would have had no problem debarking. Should be allowed a little more readily in victoria but this is the NANNY STATE ... no options for you!
  19. I have to let it out ... WELL DERRRRRRRRRRR ok thats done ... I have seen lack of physical punishment as a factor and quite scarily in fact ... hence why purely positive hands off is not at all a blanket method of dog training and those that think it is need to get some more experience. As for speying females ... yup you're removing a HUGE source of their female hormones which have influence on certain behavior. They can stop being bitches and act more as dogs which is why I prefer the larger breeds to mature more and get some behavioral habits in before desexing. I would also like to see leaving one ovary in be an option in dogs but nooooooo. 99% of vets will not do it and I think its rediculous. Women who have hysterectomies have full hormonal support but poor dogs are left to just deal with it.
  20. spray bottle ... say UH UH and spray in the face with water then ignore him until he settles. No point trying to get anything through to that bouncing puppy brain of his until he settles
  21. you're really yelling and they dont listen? oi sounds like you need maybe someone to come and help you and check out whats going on. Its unusual that they completely ignore even such a loud sound. so is one forcing the other away or are they just playing and bumping into you? I'm a little confused as to what is actually going on.
  22. ringworm doesnt have to show a crust on the skin it can start with patches of hair loss you need a woods lamp to see it properly it looks a little wet is she maybe scratching herself or licking?
  23. I was merely suggesting if the OP was not happy with the treatment they received then write to the body. A veterinarian should not turn down a client if they want a test AND if they're willing to pay. Just a suggestion no pitchforks here. I know it can be but I also know cortisone can accelerate some tumors.
  24. I thought Cortisone accelerated the growth of tumours ... If he is a member of the AVA write a letter NOW or get on the phone with them. If he is not try the registering body for veterinarians.
