  1. Call the breeder but it sounds like a typical pup. Bulldogs are a bit feisty, stubborn and need a firm hand while growing up you need to start training. Keep the pup on a lead while playing with the kids to be able to walk the pup away when it over excites, and as soon as it makes an aim for you to nip put your thumb under the tongue and apply GENTLE pressure until the pup gives up. Dont worry about the fuss the dog will put up it's trying to get one over you. As soon as the pup gives up release, wait a few seconds and if it's behaving pat it gently and keep saying 'oh what a good puppy, GOOD PUPPY!' to reinforce what behavior you want.
  2. gsd2 I have quite a few dogs handed or offered free to me on a regular basis ... sometimes fate provides
  3. yeah it's a cheaper dog food apparently some people are raving about. I can't use it so dont think I'm making any endoresements here I just thought since some wanted to try it and its rare round here
  4. Hey People, Wallingtons WRG (in Wallington LOL) has started stocking Great Barko from today It's about $28.90 a bag. If you want to try it hop down and grab it as they only have one pallet OR if it's hard for you to get down there you can do a bank transfer to me and I'll buy it for you, then you can pick it up from my place in North Geelong I'll be there on Sunday, then next thursday onwards ... or just pop in and say hi to Nekhbet in her sexy new blue and safety orange uniform I know its been a bit out of reach for some people and a few have been keen to give it a go!
  5. alpha bet I know many working GSD breeders, I dont think one is a member of GSDC. Most people who buy working line want to see physical proof of a canines capability before purchasing a pup and most breeders work their dogs as well. Not all working GSDs come with Sch titles either, some go straight into civil work which is not Sch/IPO. Hence on paperwork no title as it is not a recognised persuit by the ANKC or GSDC I know what you mean Rubidoo ... I wish my Krueger hadnt been PTS every single day, as much as I love my Malinois (who is 6 on the 22nd! My god do those Mals mature well with age!!!) Krueger left pawprints on my heart. And you know he only showed workability for me. From a supposed failure to a massive ball of potential. I just can't go through another shep again (didnt I say that last time *sigh*)
  6. and there are hundreds more lovely pups each year bred just like these. They are doing an injustice by not vaccinating in what is peak parvo season in some areas. If they cannot afford the vet bills then they should at least have the sense to lock up their bitch. I would be offering help to rehome on the provision they desex their bitch. Every litter that disappears off into a dreamworld of 'lovely homes' means they do another. Wonder how many of all the pups they bred will stay in supposed lovely homes all their lives. Dont ever pick a dog on guilt! Do it with your heart yes, but with your head also. You will be living with this dog for the next 10+ years, not them.
  7. rememberdiesel.webs.com I made this website because I have a BYB dog that although we did rescue (sorta) it shows the potential for what CAN go wrong and you have no backup of a breeder, health policy etc to help you in times of strife if this is their second litter isnt it time they learned to desex the female ... producing more random pups in an already saturated random breed market is not just 'a nice thing to do' ... suppose it is when you spend no money on their health care or take responsibilty for what you produce
  8. I dont understand ... if you want a companion, low drive easy dog then get a companion breed. There are plenty out there. Cant be bothered training, raising a pup, toilet training etc then get a toy dog with batteries. why are we wasting time trying to change working breeds into zombies. Ignorant and lazy people are the ones we should be trying to change, not try and change the dogs to suit them. Saying that even the best genetics can be ruined by lack of socialisation/poor raising from the breeder and no/poor training from the new owner ... so what then? All dogs on Valium? Start breeding for no teeth? It irks me that they're trying to bland down a predatory, pack animal.
  9. wont be making it to this one, I went to the last one though so I dont feel TOO bad hey Kelpi-i try driving everywhere from Geelong! Last Uta seminar I had to find a B&B that allowed dogs
  10. I agree you do need a trainer but dont be too aggressive towards the dog - you are better turning round at the moment and 'come on!' dispell the anxiety to gain focus and calm
  11. So sorry Bl0ndy The best thing to do is contact all vet clinics within a wide range, send a poster (fax or email is good too) and if she is microchipped they will scan or call you if they suspect it is your dog I would also call the microchip company and put an alert on her that she is stolen. Posters are better up in shop windows where they cannot be ripped down too, maybe it is the council pulling down the posters as most do not allow them on poles etc It sounds bad but you have to give it time. If she's not in the pound she probably has a decent home (allbeit a theiving one!) take care of yourself first though, it is very very hard I know what you're going through but giving up is not the right thing to do
  12. wont do her any harm at all ... in fact some countries use them as a food source themselves! plus their fun to catch. My grandparents old terrier Foxy used to spend hours hunting and digging them out of hte lawn
  13. I'll see if I can wangle my way to coming I think a few people that appreciate pet/working dog should be there as well. There is more to a dog then just lounging around. We loose valuable genetics to cross breeding and 'pet' breeding only as well as the restriction on dog sports and training methods
  14. sounds like something happened while you were not home - a nervous dog with a stranger only in the house can be quite dramatic for many dogs, I know my Malinois would not take kindly to it at all You need to start somewhat from scratch. Sounds like her confidence is shaken and she's retaliating. I dont think I'd go as far as fear aggression, more just unconfidence, anxiety which is manifesting. ETA remember from a human perspective maybe it wasnt so bad, but from Jazzs perspective strange people who may have tried to lure her with a treat or to pat her when the owners were not home could have been very very stresful. I think having friend allow her friends in the house too is a massive no no with a dog like Jazz.
  15. GSDC does not welcome people who work their dogs in Schutzhund or as security dogs. Many working breeders are hence not members, especially if pp/security/military/police dogs are their bread and butter
  16. OK now we have to try and make a brace for Diesels hind leg. It is so crooked and the other day he fell down 4 tall tile steps at the back and landed on his side/hip it's so crooked and he walk around popping all the time ... I was thinking one of those plastic big shoe horns, some lambswool and leather straps ... anyone heard of these made before?
  17. PM Jeff Jones as he is up in NSW have you thought about a Malinois? www.malinois.net.au
  18. http://www.gipfelgsds.com/default.asp try also Gipfel
  19. where are you looking? I know Regal Haus had some pups recently. Saving that try the specialistcanines.com forum
  20. you have to do a bit of testing with your dog ... have different things and see what the dog prefers Also with recall you want to have the dog on a long line and I also include massive physical praise and fussing over the dog as well as the treat - the one day you dont have a treat at least you will have yourself!
  21. actually if you have a good look it seems to be hard undigested matter that has balled what is her current diet? looks like she cannot digest properly or if her diet is high in bones it may be forming a bolus stuck in the gut try providing smaller, highly digestable meals a few times per day and add some fiber. Did the vet cut the ball apart?
  22. spray bottle with water right between the eyes then walk off on him
  23. remember the ocean is alive - low tide exposes all manner of plants, dead creatures to oxygen and bacteria who thrive in warm weather its probably the ocean cleaning itself up. It can reek, they all do time to time
  24. Shmurps are you in Melbourne .. I think I know where you work
  25. I'll swap with you Pebbles I meant more if you have dogs they're there to be with you, not live life in a boxed backyard
