  1. are you clipping with or against the hair? Dont clip against! And keep an eye your blades are not heating up quickly either If you have a bit of paw paw ointment you can try that
  2. yup you need to move off a food that has grains in it (especially wheat, rye etc). Look at foods like Eagle Pack, Royal Canin, Nutrience, Artemis etc. And stay away from those cans and cat food! My rottie always had bad skin and yeasty ears. For the ears I wiped what I could reach with Lucas Paw Paw ointment and he's now on Royal Canin Rottweiler. His skin has never looked better. The only treats he gets is fresh foods, leftovers from us or natural dog treats. No preservatives, no colours, no flavourings. Also if your dog has long term yeasts you HAVE to change the diet ... medications can stem heavy infections but long term if they do little then there is another problem needing to be fixed. I have also found the Ethical Nutrients human super strength fish oil to be excellent, just on the food or straight in the mouth.
  3. mines not a dog lover at all can you tell
  4. It can take one flea bite for a sensitive dog to flare up and start nibbling. FLeas can hop inside too There are herbal remedies from depression in animals, I think sometimes that is a better start then full on medication depending on the severity. Tryptophan, Bach Flower, Valerian etc are somewhere I would start ... horse people have known about more natural calmatives for ages I'm really surprised we have not transferred the concepts over to the dogs
  5. I dont see why dogs shouldnt eat offal from a human butcher. It's made for people to eat as well! Just dont go purchasing offal from random dodgy knackeries.
  6. yes quite ironic isnt it these days we have better facilities, better education, better options for our pets and we manage to monumentally stuff it up.
  7. unwanted puppies and kittens were drowned in buckets or knocked on the head mongrels were giveaways, worth not much more then the collars around their necks and if a dog got in trouble giving birth invariably it did die if a vet wasnt called.
  8. I feed a dogue, rottie and malinois on a 15kg bag of royal canin every 2 - 2 1/2 weeks Plus then it can be bulked out with lamb flaps, chicken carcasses etc. It's not that expensive to feed
  9. You'd be surprised what is considered fighting breed bedlington terrier boston terrier kerry blue mastiff dogue de bordeaux manchester terrier all banned from our local doggy day centre
  10. He's so stupid he even shoots kangaroos on his property to feed the dogs still no charges laid despite murdering the beautiful grey roos that roam around here
  11. Yeah boof tried to fit a whole toy poodle in his mouth when he was a young tacker and spat out a little wooly ball of fury with a confused look on his face like 'oh so thats not a toy' Dogues are not #1 for intelligence all the time
  12. I know a doggy daycare or two that have insurance limitations on breeds. They cannot accept certain 'fighting' heritage breeds that or the owners of the place truly are idiots
  13. ehhh no. no no no. just have my finger on the old pulse, thats all
  14. why dont you use a check chain and give him a little correction when he wont follow. Then follow up with showing what the correct behavior is and reward that
  15. I know Deb was in a state of shock after visiting. RSPCA says he has broken no laws ... apparently the shade provided by the tip the dogs live in is enough. I have known about this farm and another bloke who he is chummy with for a while. I also know so many people call the RSPCA and the council to complain and nothing gets done about it, like they can't be bothered ... must be all the rego fees the council gets from them The council around here is useless, the RSPCA is useless. Makes you want to just do the old mob justice and break the dogs out yourself then lock Les and Melinda in those stinking cages to rot.
  16. If bonny is her real mother then she's nowhere near a full french mastiff ... definately bordeaux x rottweiler x something else Dogue de Bordeauxs look like this
  17. how are there no breaches to the act disgusting
  18. Everybody check out the Geelong Advertiser tomorrow please ... buy it or go online it's very worthwhile
  19. nah I've met (and lived through the 20 photo albums) of her limp wristed relatives. I think the only reason she hasnt kicked up a bigger fuss is because I'm Serb, OHs Russian and we're both tattood ... ooh to just pop a hose over the fence
  20. already elbow deep in this pie kelpie-i cogs are a churning
  21. I dont have a problem with debarking if it is not due to simple lazyness on the owners behalf. I have a loud dog that can be very very annoying but a bark collar shuts her up. It's a breed thing. But whatever you do PLEASE check your states laws and make sure you abide by them when you get it done or the RSPCA will have another random field day on someone trying to do the right thing
  22. and mine ... she bailed my up at the weekend market the other weekend ... oh your dog barked weeks ago ok we went through this 1) I wasnt home 2) neither was my partner 3) you know she barks like that if someone is in the front yard did you go check in case someone was trying to break in ... no then she began how when her [insanely loud, screaming and nerve tearing] grandchildren stayed over some dog barked aaaaaall night and her son was upset. then I explain how there is 3 dogs in the houses behind me, 5 next door and mine are lying on my bedroom floor at night. meanwhile she continues whinging. would it be so horrible if I just told an old italian lady to STFU and where to go at about 90 decibels ... or would that just cross some line *sigh*
  23. bordeauxs dont carry black and tan so mum was probably a bordeaux x rottie or something else, they can look close to the original breed but they really are not. you shouldnt aspire to this. A dog grows to what it grows, if you want guarentees then purchase a pedigree. Grow giant breeds slowly and better to be a bit undersized then grow them huge and suffer the consequences of bad legs and joints later.
  24. If he tries to pull and cries turn around and walk him away a distance until he settles. Reward for calm then try again, if he leaps foreward turn around again. Dont try to verbally correct him, only talk to him when he's calm and paying attention then heaps of praise. He will learn that misbehaving gets him nothing. ALso I would not let him tug towards dogs without some sort of command "ok say hello etc' and he can nicely approach them and then come away when you say so. If you have friends with calm dogs it is easier to train with as well.
  25. small meals more often, her stomach is very very sore and has been empty for a while. A spoon or two at a time, multiple times a day and she will be fine
