  1. maybe you should also let them know the law states that animals cannot be given as prizes or used as fundraising activities Poor poor little dog what sick people
  2. I got a sniff it does smell great but for the price you may as well go to the butcher and make your own mix of meat, offal and veges. Way way to pricey
  3. OMG What an absolute farce and how exactly is one to limit the time dragging a fish out ... shall we start cutting the lines after a set time limit? There's something, fish with lines and hooks all over the place. Amazing how the average person gets picked on yet why dont they go pick on dolphin clubbers, Gill net fishing that just indiscriminantly wipes the waters of everything alive. Look at Geelong, A couple of years ago the pinkies were throwing themselves at you, now they're gradually coming back. Funny, in the inbetween period I saw the shops filled with pinkies at a size that would have had me raked over hot coals. I think some people need to get a life, honestly.
  4. 1 in 5 do not need medication. 1 in 5 dogs will now be drugged to the eyeballs to make a quick buck by the drug companies as they have done in humans. A dog is a dog. Feed it train it exercise it all in proportion to its needs as that individual if that fails seek GOOD help and advice. Honestly out of all the dogs I have trained only 2 from the same household I recommended they need something like Clomicalm. Every other dog simply needed some rules, training and more brain activity. Dogs dont think anymore. We created a human generation of spoiled, TV zombies we are doing the same with our dogs. I see too many dogs that dont know how to learn, dont know dog body language, dont know how to do more then rotate in the spot and we wonder why they go crazy.
  5. scent hound + bored + new interesting mission Why dont you just let them dig in one section of the yard, or make them a sand pit and bury tasty treats for them to find. Obviously their minds need a good work out so come up with some scent hound excercises or maybe even start some basic tracking with them in the park a couple of times a week
  6. maybe she bit down on it and hurt herself/bit her tongue and now she thinks it will cause her pain Rub it all over with chicken or kabana, I mean coat it so it's slimy and chunky, and leave it somewhere she will find it. Dont make a fuss over it at all and let her go of her own accord. Let her stomach lead her and gradually when she starts showing more interest or moves it about let her lick the food off it from your hand (in case there is an issue with you holding it too)

nothing wrong with that. Since you have a giant breed I would stick to what the breeder recommends, or if you are after a better all in one dry food go for Royal Canin, Eagle Pack or Nutrience. And hello from another Dogue owner
  8. Divide and conquer! the only thing I would worry about is if they are outside only all the time dogs they will naturally bond to each other more. If I get new pups I separate them from the other dogs and have majority of their time spent one on one with me. They learn I am the source of all things good and hence all my dogs, even when I had 4 together, try and get my attention first over another dogs. If you work from home why dont you rotate them. One with you am the other with you PM and then in the pen together for the rest of the evening/night. EVen if it's just hanging around you while you work you can do little obedience things with them in spare moments, keep a pocket full of treats.
  9. why not try an e=collar. Start with one that self adjusts from low to high depending on how persistent the barking is. Make sure he has plenty of toys, treats etc so he can redirect his energy when his barking is stopped.
  10. cheers sway ... now erase the posts before some other people see it and bump up the price
  11. fat is an energy source. The dog not being a grain/carb eater derives its energy from animal fats and proteins It can in some dogs. My Malinois started to get lipid deposit on her eyeball right on top of her lens. She had to go on a low fat diet and it dissapeared, so now we keep her fat intake relative to the work she does.
  12. When money is the primary concern for the breeder then no matter what you do animals suffer there a puppy farmers, registered breeders, non reg breeders of purebreed, BYBers etc all working in different ways with different dogs but at the end of the day money rules for them and their dogs suffer. I know some BYBers that care for their dogs better then a couple of Reg breeders. They abide more to the code of ethics and would spend their last cent on their dogs. Life is not black and white. ETA yeah I read that article .. it's so poorly written it's not funny. They immediately call it a new 'breed' in there too which it's not. Did you read the police dog one ... I want myself a bouvier de lenders
  13. here in Victoria you just pay your fee and you can buy what you want. There is no assurance that you know anything about any of the creatures you are licensed to own. I can own crocodiles, roos, emus, various snake and lizard species ... all for a small fee each year and make sure I keep a log book up to date. As for mandatory training .. who would get that contract? Let me guess if the RSPCA has an opinion then only purely positive/delta accredited schools would apply ... and since there is no legislation saying any current dog schools need to have qualified people then most would fizzle and die, or demand would not be able to be kept up. I think just proving you went to SOME dog school (who provided their 'curriculum' to the local council) would be enough. If you dont turn up at all then you're reported. Easy.
  14. no thats pretty much how everyone gets treated when they come over They seem to gravitate towards him especially when he feels like 'daddy alone time' and give him goo goo eyes ... Malinois thinks he is her puppy and cleans his head and snuggles him like a mum ... I swear if she could pick him up by the scruff and bury him in her bed she would
  15. why dont you clip his harness to something like a car tyre and walk him along next to you? I know AmBull people train weight pull conditioning like that I met a bitch that wasnt happy unless she had dragged a car tyre a couple of k's a day. Better then ripping your arm out of your socket.
  16. I only recommend as some dry foods are more palatable, royal canin is not as dry a food and more dogs seem interested. A little mince will not hurt him at all
  17. if they are looking at competitive obedience, agility etc Geelong Obedience Dog Club http://www.godc.org.au/ or my friend runs a training/socialisation school on Saturdays at Elcho Park, she also breeds, exhibits and trials border collies (also runs puppy preschool at Petstock city and corio) http://tinasdogtraining.com/ and I train at her club on saturdays, other then that I also do private consultations
  18. and maybe you misunderstood me Cosmolo. My comment was because the OP said the trainer could not get the dog to walk nicely either. One good session with a GOOD trainer to find the CORRECT equipment the dog needs and that makes the owner happy. I dont know about you but I dont leave a consultation with a dog the owner cannot handle... thats why they pay me to come over, find a workable solution. The point is to find the right method and equipment that suits the owners capabilities and show them how to make life easier for all.
  19. Actually Lo Pan the photos are not pretty at all there's something rotten in the ranks of the administration I think that allows this to be OK. Keep watching this space though the next couple of weeks are going to be interesting
  20. exactly ... christ the man is constantly in the public eye and they need to 'watch him' how about watching all the underhanded, hidden and sneaky dealings that lead to animal abuse. Oh wait, there's not enough attention in that is there
  21. What a creepy child. The parents must be brimming with pride Praise your dog for good behavior, and use it as a learning exercise. Honestly if you started at my lot they'd just walk off on you like 'boooooooooooring'
  22. I cover the greater Geelong region my contact details are in my Signature I also train at a dog school on saturdays at Elcho Park, would be great for you to join we encourage all dogs to join (especially those with problems) and is more socialisation based, smaller classes and very experienced trainers. I would encourage you to join after we get the problem down to a level you are comfortable managing in public
  23. Have you tried one of the other dog food brands like Royal Canin giant or Eagle Pack giant? The price difference isnt that much between them and Euk but the quality and palatability is
