  1. how weird are those bullygreys cute ears though on the white one When we went deer hunting you should have seen the pointer a bloke had, pedigree boy. Got the scent of a deer a couple of hundred meters upwind and went bananas trying to squeeze out of his dog box :p all we saw was a nose and two legs flailing out the side like 'OMG DEEEEEEEEER GIMME GIMME GIMME" great seeing driven working dogs in action
  2. grace its a fairly rich food, your pup may not need as much as you think (the bag is always hideously over feeding wise) just cut the meal size down a little
  3. puppies in the window make for crowd pleasers, draw kids who draw and harass parents to cough up. Would you want your registered litter in a glass box man handled by every snotty nosed kid or exposed to disease risks? I sure as hell wouldnt want it near the place. Look at places like Pets Paradise! Their profit comes mostly from the puppies and kittens, their stores are tiny and virtually devoid of anything useful in the way of animal supplies ... A book with registered breeders contact details is enough. Breeders and experienced dog people should be selling and marketing pups NOT pet shop people with little idea of animal care or 16 year olds who work there because they 'love animals *SQUEEEEEE*' (stab stab stab) As for the PIAA, I knew about this long ago. A commercial breeder is simply someone who has an ABN, registered with council etc IE A puppy farmer who did all his paperwork. Have a look at the PIAA website, I can guarentee a few places on there get pups from randoms, puppy farms and thrive on the cute factor dollar that gets raked in. I also see a reptile seller on there who I wouldnt buy a snake off if you paid me due to his business first ideals.
  4. The shires would be making money from multiple dog permits, registration for each dog etc. If a farmer has a few hundred dogs then multiply that my the rego price.
  5. you can and I encourage everyone to. The irony is this proposal is being considered by the same council that just tried to shut down Les and Melinda Paxton who made news recently, and said they are against animal cruelty. Well WHY CONSIDER ANOTHER PUPPY FARM
  6. FYI this is the same mob who already have ACA breeders kennels.
  7. it comes down to conditioning and teaching the dog to redirect himself when under tension to GOOD behavior not lunging. Mark should have no problem helping you with that. On lead, yes the dog is restricted in what behaviors he can express so he does what works most effectively for him, hence why there are differences on lead and off. Sometimes being the boss isnt enough, if the dog doesnt learn how to curb his heightening excitement/anxiety into wanted behaviors then you get this scenario you are in now and it's not anyones fault, it can be difficult even for the average dog school to sort out.
  8. oh Jeff you meany the dogs never kill the pig (well they shouldnt) they track, bail and hold onto the pig by the ears/cheeks etc until the hunter gets there. Hunting pigs is horribly difficult and dangerous without dogs, also very hard to get a kill shot on a moving porker. Some people do it as a sport, some for food, most just to get rid of the blasted things.
  9. There is the ointment you buy in a pink tube from the humn pharmacy ... the name escapes me right now I'm tired LOL
  10. Dawwwww happy birthday to the special lady! Big hugs from me! Good to hear about Furia too
  11. all dogs have prey drive to some degree. It is the drive to chase, catch and in some instances kill. Since the dog now finds it so rewarding it will keep at trying to enter the cages so there are 2 options 1) completely separate dog and small animals permanently 2) find a good trainer who will do some training and e-collar work with the dog it wont just stop on its own
  12. I would be looking at holistic therapies, long term pain medications do nothing but allow the dog to damage the joints further and then you just keep upping the dose until they cannot walk any more. She sounds like she's been in pain for a very long time, but her unpredictability should subside with management and pain relief. Also make sure she has an escape route, sick dogs dont always want to join in or be handled so be understanding to that. start giving her the Ethical Nutrients high strength fish oil, a capful a day with food. Remove all coloured, flavoured and junky type foods as well and if she's a bit over weight then strip it down to the bare minimum. Also walks through water/sand and low impact muscle building exercise are much better then walks and runs. Acupuncture, massage and chiropractic are very beneficial, all my dogs have benefitted from it and it saved my rottweilers life. He looks terrible but he has majority function and no pain killers at all.
  13. He's finally mature and he's acting like a big tough male dog would. Being an AmBull just adds fuel to the fire Stop the dog park. They're useless and teach dogs nothing but bad habits. Socialisation is better from dogs you know that get along well with yours. Just be careful, there is happy tail wagging and then there is stiff 'i'm gonna stuff you up' tail wag from a dog. Many owners think that all tail wagging is good when in actual fact it's a huge signal somethings going to explode. Contact Mark Singer in SA www.caninetraining.com.au to help you with his behavior. There is a vast difference between obedience behaviors and proper socialisation and control. Mean time keep on top of any little quirks he's pulling and dont continue at off lead dog parks
  14. I fed Eagle Pack to my Bordeaux, I swapped to RC as EP was having supply issues and my boys coat wasnt as nice on it Raw bones are fine, feed them separately to the kibble but definately include into the diet That is how I feed mine, a base of good dry food and then meaty bones, off cuts, scraps etc on top I wouldnt bother wetting down the kibble, the babydog is quite small and it encourages them to chew. If your dog bolts down the food then mix it with some water and let her pick out the floating kibble
  15. definately, for your dog I would be going Royal Canin Giant or Eagle Pack giant. Unless you have experience I would not be keeping a dog of that size on a raw diet especially during growing stage (which will be the next 2 years ) if you feed mince as well please make sure it is minced carcasses or has some calcium source in there to balance the mineral ratios. Also 3 meals a day at this stage. Oh and start socialising ASAP, if there are other puppies you can access let them spend as much time together in the next few weeks as possible. This is a very critical period for a puppy to learn and will shape how it will become for the rest of its life.
  16. why would he be mad at them? He bought an unpapered dog out of the paper, he should be mad at himself. I dont understand people who want a certain breed, get ripped off by BYBers and then get upset afterwards. If he went to a registered SBT breeder he would have gotten what he wanted. It's a cross of a cross. Closest is a bull breed type, I dont see any mastiff in there at all
  17. so 23 hours in something they can just spin around in. How is that better? THis guarentees no socialisation or benefit to the dog. how can a person/couple look after 50 dog properly? I'd say half that, even that is pushing it really.
  18. look at what happened to one Schutzhund club in Victoria ... one day allowed on council grounds, the next day dragged through court. Its utter BS. We're so backward in Australia it's not funny.
  19. oh yes it's all about creating out of control maniacs i'l have to video my bitch and show her drive control. You can bop her on the face with a drive toy and she wont eyen open her mouth unless I give the word, and spits out straight away on command. not hard at all really, I dont see why so many people are mystified by it
  20. can I just say to people that any dog that has bitten before should not just go to rescue orgs or rehomed without sufficient retraining and evaluation by someone experienced in dealing and properly understanding the behavior. It is one thing to say a home with no children but until the actual behavior and causation is understood you could just be putting the dog in another potential bite situation.
  21. first thing I thought when I heard was that the dog probably was trained to bite. Doesnt surprise me at all if it was actually poorly trained, she tried to make it go into another room and the dog cracked it with a lethal backup of its poor training. Idiots create dogs like this, not genetics. I have breeds known for their poosible aggression and it doesnt happen. Why? Because I have a clue and I'm responsible.
  22. third party is an experienced trainer, registered breeder and trialer
  23. noooo no no I sent you a PM. Don't PTS I'm sure something can be worked out
  24. Ask them this - what is it that attracts them to a german shepherd and can they provide for that behavior. If they are just going for the looks, then find something else. If they want a high energy, active, intelligent working breed because it suits their lifestyle then go for it.
  25. You are feeding your dog a lot of carbs, cheap mostly undigestible protein and little good nutrition. Step away from the supermarket and especially cans most of that stuff is horse food sprayed with fat. I have found that dogs on the cheaper brands tend to gain weight (even on the light stuff) as its just highly refined junk food for dogs. At your dogs age go for a good adult premium kibble (Eagle Pack, Royal Canin, Nutrience, Nutro, Artemis etc) A breeding bitch needs to be in peak physical health in order to breed, you get from your pups what you put in. Start feeding your dog some raw food as well, chicken carcasses, maryland, lamb flaps (with the fatty bits cut off) to keep her teeth and system glowing. My entire bitch has just turned 6 in January, has gleaming white teeth, well muscled, and a shiny soft coat. Breeding, nutrition and proper management cost money, usually quite a bit. If you cannot afford to feed a bitch properly now how much do you think a big litter of pups will cost you those things eat like there is no tomorrow! A totally raw diet like Ian Billinghursts BARF diet is another way to go, but if you are not confident in the nutrition side then a good premium dry is the way to go. Remember look at the protein content on the packet, look at the ingredients. Is it mainly wheat, grains and fillers? Is the protein actualy good quality meat or just whatever junk comes out of the abbetoir scraps bin? Meat by products on labels is NOT meat. It is heads, feet, guts, feathers etc. How digestible is that for your dog? Canned food is sometimes only 5% protein, add up how much water in a can you have been paying for in the last 12 months :D A great dry bulked out with raw is actually more cost effective and better for your dog in the long run.
