Just a light hearted thread for those training dogs or helping out whats the most left field requests today I taught a little toy poodle to play a toy piano in a consult took me about 15 minutes to have her play the piano with her paw then run outside for toilet time best thing is she's coming to my place soon for some intensive training (read that as intensive cuddling ) I think her owner will have a hard time getting her back she's awesome! come on ... stories!

Remember these dogs are only 13 months old. I also see they have not had their boundries set properly and the GSD has posession problems that have not been totally rectified. Personally 2 dogs exactly the same age and evenly matched sexually is going to make things harder. Not impossible. I would have left one entire but oh well Start with someone who has dealt with this type of problem before and can read dog body language properly to tell you who is doing what. Mealtimes either supervise totally or separate while working on the problem. It cannot just be a food issue I am tipping there are other things going on as well as part of a bigger picture

they do ... its more schutzhund they do. Few females that do it ... that leaves more fit blokes with their nice working breeds for us hey Mon
-
funny that. Last time I tried a security guard told me to leave and that dogs are not allowed in the isles either, then pointed to some faded yellow smear on the ground that was apparently a no dogs allowed sign
-
apparently they're still very primitive animals, and retain a high hunting instinct http://www.akashima.bc.ca/shikoku-article.htm

I can tell you I have an entire 5 year old male who has never done it and lives with an entire bitch. Gets a bit whiny, knows nothing is coming and gets over it quickly. They dont have to breed, dogs really dont get sexual frustration unless you have them living with a kennel full of bitches on heat all the time!

The Concept Formerly Known As "dominance"
Nekhbet replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think stop blaming the 'dominance theory' and simply dont let idiots train dogs. I've seen purely motivational positive jingle jangle what ever you call it in this 5 minutes - go terrible wrong too. But hey we dont talk about those ones .. then us 'dominanace theory' barbarians are usually called in to fix it. Training is about understanding the dog and doing least harm in your methods whatever they are. Not pigeon holing people because of what jargon they choose to use this week. -
stupid tree-changers his dogs were found bailing up 4 goats in a paddock. A huge fail right there. Every right to be shot at causing harm and distress to livestock.
-
either that or people do not understand what has actually happened hence the 'it just happened out of the blue' Clyde can I ask why you have loose cats in a grooming area?
-
thats why the dog has an e-collar. Nothing wrong with training under distraction I think he was just pushing the point a bit. It's called training in prey drive. The toy is the prey reward. Basically he was doing schutzhund obedience. I wouldnt be the one putting money on that Aiden.

you can have a ring put onto the collar or go to spotlight and slip one on yourself Its all I could get in Oz so I used what I could at the time.
-
I want a dutchie minchie great lookers there I'm very jealous!
-
I have used the Ezy Dog leash extensions. They have a clip at one end and a ring at the other. They are plaited nylon (more woven) so are very strong as well as slippign freely even on long haired dogs. DD collars are meant to sit high around the throat and not to be on a long leash anyway so you have control over where it sits. They're under $10 each
-
Use a dominant dog collar. Its a slip collar like a check chain but nylon, and sits high on the neck around the throat area. before you use this though please email me or get a trainer who knows how to use them to show you. You should be able to fix his pulling/lunging in one day with this collar and no harsh yanking required.
-
could I grab 2 large and 2 mediums please
-
3 days is nothing! Give him a couple of weeks to soak up all the new information They are intelligent but with no ability to verbalise between you and the dog they just do things at their own rate. I would be giving him more fresh air and sunshine too, let him out for more then toileting But walks should wait until a week after the second vaccination. If you want to take him out then put him in a bag or trolley and take him for a walk like that to expose him.

where else would puppy farm dogs end up ... shot or euthanised at bulk rates. -
just be careful, an untrained dog acting out of usual behavior and defensively can be built up by too small a correction or redirect onto the owner. Trainer is the way to go, someone who has experience in defence, protection etc to properly see whats going on
-
that is all the law requires cosmolo. The laws let dogs be treated like livestock as well.
-
your dog reacted to his body language and smell. I would be more concerned about your limitations on holding her back. No excuse if saffron had bitten the man on that occasion. I would look into further obedience, acknowledge the dogs view of the person but you want control as well.
