  1. SOLD to the sucker lovely lady on the forum he's on his way to you now post packed
  2. Its a whole room size rug with a dining setting on top to protect my floors. I've blotted up the blood and rinsed it a few times, rinse, blot, rinse, blot now its wicking with clean water and a wad of paper towel on top. Rottie has the audacity to now whine at me for some dry food. Last time he gets a nice fresh rabbit for dinner thats for sure.
  3. wash the damn rug in the dining room. by hand. on my bloody knees ... and why you might ask? Because my idiot rottweiler dragged half a dead rabbit in, plonked himself there and ate the rest of it leaving a 2 foot square blood stain It looks like something was massacred in there He's smooshed it into the pile nicely for me. Thank god its a cheap nylon number. I set him up a bed in the back alcove so he could lie comfortably and eat out there. But ooooh no his royal highness had to come into the dining room anyone want a free rottweiler? send in your applications while I go make a check he hasnt buried a foot or something behind the couch cushions just to top off my afternoon *sigh*
  4. we got samples at work and they just seem too complicated and VERY expensive for what they are. You have to have the two magnets in the right order or apparently they dont work. I dont really have high faith in vibrational magnetic energy keeping your animals pest free.
  5. yup most of it is learned attention behaviour. Keep going the way you're going and you will be fine. If having them together too much brings back the behaviour separate them off a little until the idea sticks. They sound like they were probably kennel dogs.
  6. if theres nothing noticably wrong i would put it down to a dog just wanting a good old butt rub on a satisfying surface. My rottie loves rubbing the base of his tail under the computer desk or against the back of his couch. He's an allergy dog, but there's nothing annoying him at all, he just growls, has a good rub then goes to sleep I think we forget they're dogs sometimes
  7. I agree most poodles I know mob you the moment they meet you. Crossbreeds can have any personality, the only way you can whittle down what they could be like if the breeds are very similar. It could also just be the fact this person was new and smelled different and her body language.
  8. if you're worried have the liver enzymes checked more regularly. Royal Canin make a low protein liver diet available through the veterinarian. Or you can try making your own diet. Vets all natural make a skin and coat supplement you can add to the food, or there is a canine nutritional formula to fill the gaps. Take a look at home made diets here http://www.minschnauzer.com/diet/sunny.html#Part 2: Sunny's Miracle Diet Recipe http://www.dogaware.com/health/liver.html#diet the main diet will include white fish, rabbit, cottage cheese etc coupled with dietary fibre like rice and oatmeal.
  9. pro plan isnt a bad food. Dont go down in quality, your other options are Royal Canin Maxi/German shepherd formulas, Eagle Pack Large Breed, Nutro Large Breed, etc if the pup is looking good then I wouldnt go changing the food.
  10. that does sound like a grass/pollen allergy. If she's prone to hives like my rottweiler, trust me the wrong food brings on an instant attack. If she's been on it for a week solely, and no one has fed her anything else or added new snacks or treats, I would be tempted to put it down to environment. I use phenergen on my dog because it settles his redness quickly and also lets him sleep off the discomfort (not that makes them drowsy lol) I think other people use Claratyne, you can call a vet to see what they recommend, but I know for sure phenergen is OK.
  11. But it seems to be that if you do use corrections you are a bully. And Cesar Milan states quite clearly not to try anything without a professional so if joe bloggs wants to go out and be a moron to roll his big, arse of a male then all fool him. I cringe when I hear things like this. Not every dog will aspire to be the alpha, in some instances (and they are not as common as we think) a dog will. They usually fit into a stereotype of sexual status, breed and owner behaviour. Others are just not given boundries and dont cope well, or their owners are not clear at all and the poor dog is confused out of its brain. I think the 'alpha' theory that all dogs want to be boss over you is not true, but I do beleive in heirachies and dominant attitudes. Sometimes no dog on the furniture IS a good thing, not letting them walk ahead of you does help etc.
  12. not every dog will get on with every other as well. If your dog had a particular issue with another dog then that was between them. My boys dont get along yet they're friendly to everyone else. My entire male dogue even rolled over the other day for a little staffy pup to lie on top of him If he is over territorial I would count that as a sign of too much testosterone before interdog issues. Some breeds are harder then others despite what we do to them hormonally, again there is a genetic component there.
  13. nice, the first article is simply Stillwell bashing Cesar Milan ... so really its a jab, not a critique of the dominance theory backed up by true fact. If her methods were really that effective then she wouldnt have to give up on dogs or plateau her success because she has limited her skills. Oh well, lets not let logic get in the way of a good story in Time shall we. I wouldnt be shitting on Konrad Most. And once again, taken out of context. yeah right. Maybe let all my relatives know this, they seemed to have missed that memo. and dogs live in what kind of environment? An artificial one! ding ding ding no hidden agenda here at all is there ... more BS scaremongering. Dogs physically correct each other, so for us to say it's bullying and and threatening your dog into submission then they really have no idea about dog training at all. Not every dog can cope with corrections, yet not every dog will be a well mannered individual without them. All this is simply making owners of hard, dominant dogs feel really bad, powerless and that their dog is just a bad dog, NOT the fact that purely positive is simply wrong for their dog and it needs different training.
  14. some dogs scratch simply because it's a change give her antihistamines instead of cortisone. Antibiotics will only be needed if there is a bacterial infection definately present on the skin. 15. I wouldnt do a dobe under 12 months of age. Testosterone is used during development. If you want your dog to be good with other dogs it will depend on socialisation, genetics and training, not just whether he's desexed or not
  16. anyone think the dog might just be enjoying a good butt rub
  17. vicks vapour rub, unless its an open wound. Something stinky will do the job
  18. ahh sorry I thought it was your post ... how sad I'll keep an eye on advertisements, if anyone knows what colour the dog is or markings
  19. how destructive is she? will she get out of things like dog mesh or does she needs stronger like chain mesh? Also what budget you looking at, it may be better to get a pre fabricated one.
  20. you're not sure your own dog is desexed? There are bulldogs for stud in the trading post I'd keep an eye out there, or contact the police if the dog is still in your name and you have the purchasers contact number
  21. sounds like over excitement on both their parts and the older bitch layed into the younger, either because she went over her threshold or the younger did and to tell her off. If they really had a fight it would have been more then a scratch near the eye, trust me. Introduce the bunny slowly and dont let them decide how to deal with is. Supervised interaction all the way, if you cannot shut the dogs drive down verbally then use the e-collar. Still, you're right to not have dogs outside alone with bunny, it could escalate again. I think it's doable and you sound like you have the skills.
  22. AFAIK cannot be shown. Great dogs though, very beautiful and hairy! Not for the average owner though or backyard
  23. decreases the sensation, can be good for dogs that dont need too much or when first introduced at times.
  24. bah. Get a couple of E-collars and someone who knows how to use it. Teach them slowly, one dog at a time, that the rabbit is totally off limits. If they have tolerated other animals then they can learn to tolerate this one. I wouldnt be jumping to getting rid of a pet without trying first.
  25. put a martingale collar on him and keep him at a good distance. When he starts to jump or whine give him a correction, then walk backwards away from the people calling him to follow. Get him to sit ahd reward for calm. You can get him to settle down but dont treat him like a baby. He needs to learn that no means no, and there is a consequence for acting up and being stupid. Yes reward for good behaviour but how does he know what not to do? And dont bother talking at him, just correct well, walk away from stimulation and reward calm behaviour.
