What a load ... ask to speak to management NOW.

yup dogue de bordeaux ... you just have to really check for reputable breeders for bordeauxs and other mastiffs

stretchy cat collars are good, soft and if they get caught can slip off for safety

megan is right, in Vic effective control means your dog comes back as soon as you call it. It also means you are PAYING ATTENTION to your dogs behaviour. There is also a distance limit to what is effective control either way this idiot needs to be held responsible. As for facebook, she wont be hard to track down particularly if her profile is public and as many do, tend to stick up photos of their car and rego plates *derrr* Her phone number will also have an address attached to it or the council can just phone her through their own records. I'm surprised they've been so slow, melbourne councils are usually all over this like a rash

it's basically giving powers to rangers that if they see a lose dog, deem it a risk (that is their own opinion) it can be euthed without appeal. If they cannot ID it (collar fell off, chip moved) they can euth it. basically we're applying the South Park excuse OMG IT WAS COMING RIGHT FOR US! ETA as for better protect ... not one law pertains to prevention or proper education to ensure dogs dont get into this situation. THey're all closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. Just pure revenue and showing how little idea they have how to fix the dog problem.

Why dont you look at one of the mastiff breeds if you're after a little more laid back they are smart, dont need miles of exercise and are happy to just loung around you and the kids all day if you're not up for a walk or a play. They are smart, can be taught tricks and obedience the biggest limiting factor is their size. Agility is out of the question Although my Bordeaux can easily hop over a big A frame, he tends to get stuck in the tyres and barrels .... plus those walking beams are just not his thing :p but he can sit, drop, roll over, shake, heel, hop up, etc pretty much everything my Malinois can do.

What is extreme - if your dog pulls over to a person and starts begging for food and you correct it, then redirect it back to pay attention to you? No, not at all. Thats a big assumption. I do use food rewards, as well as prey rewards and pack rewards. I just dont limit myself to ONLY that. Positive reinforcement is very important in dog training, I just choose to use the other options available to me as well. Correction unwanted behaviour adds to your value, limiting availability of resources to only come from you does this also exponentially. and a food obsessed dog with no boundries or consequences to its actions puts the owner in the place they are in now. Lovemesideways has done the NDTF course she should not be a total noob with corrections and reinforcement scedules. Food on command - the dog can expect food when you say so. So attach a command to all eating activities with the dog. Attaching a command shows the dog it will only get food from a person when commanded to do so, expectations of receiving food goes down unless in conditioned circumstance and the begging starts to extinguish itself. Every time you offer some food 'eat' or whatever you want to use. Teach the dog the leave command also, so when you dont want it to touch/eat something - LEAVE. I do it by starting with food in my fist, offer it to the dog and they will snuffle and lick your hand, eventually they give in and lean back not touching your hand 'GOOD, LEAVE!' then wait a couple of seconds "EAT, GOOD DOG" give reward. So dog is learning 1) just because it is in front of its face does not mean its to be eaten immediately (eventually, if at all) and 2) it can have rewards but on command of the handler. You then progress this to food from other people, if the dog will not turn away or goes for the grab, correct. As for the corrections - If the dog breaks and pulls over to a person, correct it. Thats just plain bad manners. Might be confused a few times but when is there not some confusion when we are trying to change behaviour? It's part of the learning process. The e-collar is for off lead when you have no physical or verbal control over the dog. Shoot off for food somewhere and get a light stim until you turn around and come back to me for fabulous rewards. Dont try and outcompete other food sources with more food unless you plan on simply carrying the best raw, fresh and stinking food around. Even then your dog will probably go for other people if it wants what they have instead of yours or you accidentally run out. The point is here the dog has learned bad behaviour. We need to show it that it is totally unacceptable and there is a required alternative we want every time. She can walk as long as she agrees not to let him beg at people. The point is here do you want consistancy from your dog or are you happy with things the way they are with your mothers contribution. Maybe show her some tricks using food and show her how cool it is that the dog ONLY pays attention to the person commanding feeding from the dog (like high 5's, beg, roll over etc)

oooh he has the cutest ears and little button nose *driving up to pinch him*
-
yeah I had a massive new zealand who sprayed. Well by spray I mean made a 3m circle of stinking sticky urine everywhere. Rabbits can be so gross sometimes
-
I think she means spraying, not just urinating. As in the great jump-flick-pee move male rabbits do that mark your walls You will just have to ring around vets.

welcome to the shittiest state in the country

Why Do People Breed Designer Dogs Just Because They Sell?
Nekhbet replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
you answered your own question in the topic heading = they sell. ignorant people do ignorant things. -
apparently the video is from Croatia. And I agree you post something like that on the internet and be prepared for the onslaught. I know that not everyone has the same animal welfare standards as us. But to throw a living thing into a river and laugh shows a mental defect. I know plenty of people who dispatch animals, my family did too but they gave them the respect they deserved and as quickly as possible. A sicko is a sicko no matter how where you are.

move the meal to first thing in the morning, not in the afternoon. Energy to work off the calories and wont sit on the food letting it simply be used as storage
-
what do you want to do with the dog and what size do you want it to be roughly? Oh and single or doubel coat? Even shorter hair dogs with double coats will moult like no tomorrow Get a poodle

I'd try the revolution and see what happens, the skin looks fine it could be like tan said some alopecia. That or just bad breeding and a little less hair then required which may grow after a while. If the pup is otherwise healthy then a little hair loss is not hte biggest thing to panic about. As for the pet store, tell her not to bother at all. I dont know why people expect pet stores to care anyway, once the deal is done the hands are wiped clean. They're simply nothing more then the money grabbing middle man, not breeders or animal experts.

The AKC and KC (England) are both NOT members of the FCI but have a standing agreement between them. Most countries have multiple registering bodies Australia only has one purebred registry but nothing is stopping someone opening another. As for only abotu 10 working line Malinois breeders in Australia - are you kidding me. Obviously you know very little if you think there are only 10, I can think of more then that off the top of my head plus more I could research for you. The point is many of them advertise to people who need the dogs not all over the usual pedigree advertising channels. The reason there is not more working line Malinois around is that they are a speciality dog, like many working line or novel working breeds and hence not just for everyone. Breeders managed to keep their dogs out of the pound/rescue system unfortunately they are becoming popular enough to now start rocking up in shelters. There is no recognised Malinois/Belgian body, no that is correct there is only the individual Belgian Shepherd clubs.

trust me he doesnt need encouragement I'm still wiping the potato and gravy of his face he got a nice massage for his birthday too so he's feeling very spoiled

Kramar is a wholesaler not a retailer. The store that sells the chains can order one from Kramar or if they can, Herm Sprenger (german, much better) I know Kramar have them in stock we order them at work http://www.petspantry.com.au/product_info....products_id=821 or just order online.

yup give frozen bones to chew too they help sooth the gums. I wouldnt be allowing tug of war while teething for 2 reasons, they can rip out teeth or cause themselves immense pain and shy off toys. Working canines are recommended to stop tug during this period for these reasons.
