was on the phone to the vet to tell them to stay there for me and he did an almighty fart....then wagged his tail and went to sleep. Im watching him closely and he is still passing wind in his sleep....thankfully this looks like a pain in the tummy. his tummy isnt really even slightly swolen and i tapped it a bit. its making little gurgling sounds now. I think its very handy to hear first hand what people have gone through.

Ruger looks very uncomfortable about an hour now after feeding. He had two and a half cups of dry food with water. He is walking around and lying down suddenly, i took him out to throw up and he moved over to the grass making the normal motions to be sick, but wasnt and lay down in the middle of the lawn which he never does. Anyway, just wondering for those that have been through it, what happned to their dogs if they were lucky enough to notice it coming on...

I agree....good luck with her anyway... -
It is hard. Anyway, whatever you decide, bedtime is one routine you can keep with a gsp, beware of making other routines, lol, they will make you hold to it!!

Hi sash. Ive had GSPs for quite some time and yes Douglas the Dyson takes pride of place in my household because of the short course hair that gets in the carpet....GSPs are best if left unspoilt, but its just so dam hard not to spoil them. I'd look at a crate in the laundry or somewhere nearby when it first comes, say for a week. then put its crate in the garage or somewhere covered, with a cover over the crate. then it knows it sleeps there and it is safe. You will probably have a sleepless night or two, but when they are tired, boy they just sleep. Try and get him/her in the morning if you can to get him/her used to your surroundings. Whatever you do, when its outside, and it crys when you leave it, dont go back....just like a human baby.... Crying and returning to it, recipe for disaster...

ooooooooohhh its such a hard decision. i think there are many pros and cons...contrary to popular belief, you can start them inside in a crate or similar for the first few days or weeks and then progress to outside in a kennel. Perhaps get her used to staying in her spot once she gets a bit older, so your house doesnt end up doggified like mine and everyone elses here lol.......

peachie. Thats what fly does, she stretches daintily and 'accidently' farts......quite hysterical...

my girl scares herself too!!

yep its funny isnt it? i'd never heard a dog burp before either....they do look at you funny afterwards...
-
too funny... yea it really stinks.....fly doesnt burp either, too lady like...i swear its a boy dog thing....

My male dog burps all the time. I mean you can really hear it.....its like a typical man burp. Does anyone else have a dog that burps? I never knew they did it till i had this one.

lilly's mum, the GSP belongs to the Gundog Group, they were bred to work birds point, flush, retrieve etc. Also on small game - ferral rabbits...etc. Not inhumane, no need to jump quite that far. -

you will find most 'gsp's dont like to be kennelled if they are not used to it. I assume you are locking her in a pen of some sort outside? If its her fist time out of her own environment, she will be most upset and this is not unusual. If you can not keep her closer to your house till she gets used to her new people and environment, she will continue and it may become a habbit forming problem. where did she come from at 10 months old? also, bringing a dog home during the night is harder, they dont quite get a chance to settle in with you before everyone disappears to bed. -

Thats so funny...what a snob you are....lol...just kidding.. Keep the photos coming...he looks cute. -
oh im laughing at this hiding, i still do that too when mine winge...getting them out of the morning routine is hardest, its when they first see you and are anxious about gettting their food. It will take a while, but he will get used to you rising at different times and dont feed him first thing when you get up. Good luck!
-
Im very happy for you sparty and sparty.....well done i bet you are over the moon...

oooooooooooooohhhhh naughty gundog. You will have to mix up his feeding times, piggy gundogs are terrible at expecting when you have a routine set up. You will probably have to try to mix up his feeding times, not so regimented. Does he like water squirted at him? (probably ) you could try a water squirter when he does it you have to catch him at it though. A big firm noooooooo with a growl followed by a whallop if he did it again fixed a dog i used to have that did it. Gotta be firm with them.
-
i just switched from frontline to advantage as i felt frontline wasnt working and one of my dogs was violently biting and scratching herself even after treatment. I have just tried advantage a few days ago and slowly she has stopped biting and scratching, so heres hoping. I think some dogs have different needs and react differently to treatment. Have you tried frontline?

I'd say just the growling bit, he may have not realised who you were?? Crates make dogs feel secure, small portable pens are better if you have room in your kitchen....room for his bed and room for paper. Crates are like a nice den though. Good luck@
