The fifty Nikon 1.8 (prime lens) gives you great light to play with. Its good indoors, its good outside, etc. the 1.4 is just the newer faster version and I wouldnt think totally necessary for portraits but im certainly no expert. I've seen some of Vickie's which are awesome. I have a 50mm for work, I used it for this one, but it was on the D3

You can take just as good pics! Apparantly the D80 is an awesome camera and you can get just as good a quality and I've seen that you do! I think Ruger is just photogenic

Shite you guys are good. Well done Rocco your kicking lizard but I still hate Vickie and the rest are not far behind

I feel your pain

Cool ta, I worked out how to save it too.
-
Would matrix metering help with that? Vickie has some dogs with white schnozes and black faces....

Im trying to edit a photo (put my name on it) and when I save as, it reduces the size of the file. Why and how do i fix that? And if Im resaving for a print or publication, what size should it be? its around 1.2 meg at the moment.

If you just want to have a bash at a DSLR and have a bit of fun, try second hand perhaps a D80? I think there is something on ebay right now in that area with lenses to boot. The risk? well you never really know the condition or have a warranty. Have a look at the D60 at the shops, they are really cute.

Everytime I try to download something and walk away it stops working I forgot to add that when i put that photo on Flikr, I tried that sharpening tool only a touch cos it makes the pic go all funny. Im starting to muck around with the colour adjustment and exposure thingos.

Looking through some of my photos today, was generally happy, but thinking how tricky white dogs are to photograph 'sharply' I havnt adjusted any colour at all in this photo so you get the idea. Any critisism you can give me would be great or tips.

Exactly! especially when you cant think quick enough to manage your depth of field like me! Now I have to think more with such a variable zoom. Doh..

I know (droool) Cannon have had high end cameras out forever though. Weird how Nikon have only just done something like the D3 and X.

Nice stuff. Vickie I have just downloaded a trial of Photoshop, I really would like to learn a bit about it. can I ask how you do the four photo thingo? ClickingM, that doggy shot is very nice.

Just as well Fiona Go the D90 if you can, its a Nikon. Whatever you choose, dont forget to bargain. Dont pay what they are asking advertised at Hardly Normal, JB or Good Guys.
-
Dont worry too much! Full blood work ups are expensive too.
