  1. I have been discussing the eligibility for classes with a few friends this morning. Some believe that if (at time of entries close) you have 3 passes you have to go up a class ie 3 passes in CCD and you have to enter novice at the next trial, others are saying that if you have not lodged an application for the title with your state body then you can enter the lower class. What do others think? Just curious to see others views on this. Reading the rules I found this: NOTES: (a) An Exhibit which has gained sufficient awards to qualify for the title of C.D., C.D.X. or U.D. shall NOT be eligible to compete in a higher class at an Obedience Trial until such time as the owner/s have lodged an application for recognition of the title with the Canine Control in the State or Territory in which the registered owner/s reside, No mention of CCD? Thoughts? Ideas?
  2. Thank you all for your replied (and PM's), will see what I can organize. I have taken a few dogs thru it now and found it was a great idea for the average dog owner. It teaching things like waiting to walk thru a gate and waiting to get out of a car (as well as lots more). Would like to take a few more thru it as well. Philippa
  3. If anyone know of any can they PM me please. Is it just possible to sit the test or do you have to go thru the training? I have done the CGC course before put would like to put a few more dogs thru the test.
  4. I never asked for a wait to start with. I clicker trainer the dumbell and never started from a sit so I need to backtrack and work on a wait I think. She is so keen to get it now I only have to show it to her and she gets all excited. I was just so pleased she finally retrieved it I never thought to ask for a wait first.
  5. A while ago I asked for help on teaching my Pug to retrieve. Thought I would post some pics of how she is going She is 90% reliable now except for the waiting to get it, she gets too excited, but that will get better with time. My Question: SHe is currently doing Flyball as well and I wanted suggestions on how to teach her the difference between wait/fetch for obedience and pull on harness/go for Flyball. I use "fetch" for Obedience and "go" for flyball. Do I need to teach this or will she just figure it out?
  6. Thanks. With the brand name I managed to find some online and order them.
  7. Anyone know where you can purchase in Australia? Found some in US but couldn't find anywhere in Australia.
  8. My guys do both at the same time. In fact one of ours got her championship title (conformation) in the morning and a pass in a trial in the afternoon, all on the same day. I also have 2 that are currently showing, trialling and learning Flyball so no reason you can't. I use "heel" in obedience and "walking" in the show ring as commands.
  9. OBEDIENCE TRIAL EXERCISES COMMUNITY COMPANION DOG CLASS The exercise for each dog and the maximum points shall be: 1. Heel on Lead 30 2. Stand for Examination on lead 10 3. Recall 20 4. 1 min Sit Stay 20 5. 2 min Down Stay 20 TOTAL 100 Less penalty for misbehaviour. A Pass is 75/100 and at least 50% in each exercise.
  10. Not anymore. (From official rules) Fouling: A dog which fouls at any time while it is under the control of the Judge must be penalised 10 points on each occasion. The deductions must be recorded as 'penalties for misbehaviour' and deducted from the total score.
  11. I have a Pug that I have managed to teach to retrieve in about 8 days. She has NO retrieve drive at all when I started but has a huge interest in food. I used two websites: http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOGS/Leve...LevelsBook.html and http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/retrieve.html. I read both of these over and over so I understood what I was doing. I also read and asked questions here. I clicker trained with two separate exercises to start with. 1. To go out and touch the dumbell 2. Was to sit in front and take dumbell (clicks for touch/nudging/mouthing and finally holding) when she could do both reliably (about 5 days - I work her 10mins each night) I threw the dumbell and didn't click when she touched. She looked at me, picked it up and stood there. I clicked for that. I hit a wall at that point as she would go out, pick it up and drop it and come in and sit. At the suggestion on a judge I but a thin lead on her and as soon as she picked it up gave a slight tug. As soon as she took a few steps with the dumbell I rewarded. Built this up and she is happy to fetch it now and actually gets excited when she sees the dumbell. Hope this makes sense; it can get hard to explain. Phill
  12. Thanks. I will stop hijacking this threat now and when I get time start a new one with a list of questions.
  13. I honestly didn't ask. If I see them again I will try and remeber to find out. So can I make my own dumbell or do I have to use a bought one? Being a Pug I have never found one with a long enough shaft to fit in their mouth.
  14. I did a search on Pugs . One quick question. You start with a toy? At what stage would you introduce a formal dumbell? I have heard some people that train with a dumbell from the start and others that don't as it will "ruin" a dog. Thanks for the reply and I would love to see any video you manage to get of the Pug.
  15. Can you give me some pointers? I am just starting to teach my (Pug) girl to retrieve. Anything you found that worked well with a Pug?
  16. I know. I thought the Dallies were hard enough to trial. Oh well...we can but try with her.
  17. No, not Rosie, although I must start working on her soon :-) I have attached a pic ( i hope) of my latest Obedience dog, Daisy (Yarrowfell Wicked in Silk). Some days I wonder why I am doing this with a Pug again but she is the brightest, most inteligent Pug I have ever met. Would be a waste not to trial her.
  18. Thanks. Thought it was 6 months, just wanted to check.
  19. Can anyone tell me the minimum age to trial. I *think* it is 6 months? I am about to enter my girl in her first trial and just wanted to check the minimum age before I enter. Phill
  20. We had the Canberra Endurance Test today and all 4 of our dogs passed: Ch Lukius Razin Mayhem ET – Dalmatian Ch Yarrowfell Gold Sovereign CCD ET CGC – Dalmatian Yarrowfell Déjà vu ET – Dalmatian Brialey Catwalk Queen ET - Beagle With the two today that makes over 20 Yarrrowfell Dalmatians with ET titles. To say I am pleased would be an understatement!!
  21. Sorry if my post came over like that, I don’t want him to learn everything overnight but dallies are never great ball dogs so I just wanted suggestions on how to motivate him. Canberra He is not really a”tugging” boy but I can try. Thanks. Phill
  22. I am currently attempting (we have only been to two classes) to teach one of the Dalmatians Flyball. He is good at the jumps, can do them most of the time but we are having issues with getting the ball. He can (willingly) chase a ball but only if thrown. He will pick it up about 30% of the time and then bring it back 20% of that time. He wont go fetch the ball if it is stationary or only thrown a little way. He has been taught to go around an object (bucket) to start learning turns. I managed to borrow a old Flyball box and he has started pawing at the ball to get it out of the hole but doesn't realize that it he pushes it will come out. He know the command to go and "touch" his feet on the box. He is food motivate and has one toy that he really loves ( a furry rat). Any suggestion to get him to figure it all out? Phill
  23. Can you send some pics and tell me what price you are asking. Send to: [email protected] Phill
