2008 Flyball Nationals
Yarrowfell replied to wherezaball's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It was amazingly stressful but I enjoyed every minute of it! I can really blame her for chasing the Dally, I also breed dallies so chasing them is absolutely natural for her. We have been working on distractions and she is getting better. She is only 14 months old at the moment and my first flyball dog so we are both on a steep learning curve but hopefully we will both get better with time. -

Ok maybe it wasn't a black card, i'm not 100% sure on the warning system. She got a Yellow card (1st warning) for crossing lanes, she didn't get fully over the line and came straight back. 2nd time (red card?) she crossed over again but didn't chase anyone. 3rd time (Black card?) she did chase the other dog (a Dally) but AT NO TIME was there any agression. -

Yep would have been me. Only Pug there LOL. Unfortunately we got Black carded for running into the other lane. I have no idea why she did as she never has at training. Going to training tonight so will see how she is, then off to the Milton Demo this weekend. On a bettter note when she did run we got 2 points . Only 3 more for our first title LOL -

Daisy (pug) At Flyball Training
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We are with the Tuggeranong Torpedoes. I know there is a team in Adelaide as I belive they are in the Nationals. From AFA website (http://www.flyball.org.au) there is the Para District Obedience Dog Club and the Dover Gardens Kennel & Obedience Club Inc in SA. -
I do Flyball because my dog seems to love it (and so do I). She also does Conformation shows and Obedience but Flyball is a time where she run, get excited and play around with Mum. It's also a great outlet for her to run around and get fit.

Daisy (pug) At Flyball Training
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep that was her and her brother Donald. I ended up keeping them both. They are almost 14 months now. -
Finally we took a video of Daisy at Flyball training tonight and uploaded to YouTube. Sorry about the quality, it was taken with the mobile phone. She broke the 11 second barrier tonight, running 10.9 seconds for a full run. Hoping to get this down a few seconds ready for the Nationals in a few weeks. Probably not a great time for a big dog was I was pleased, she only has little legs

I just found these while surfing. Not sure if they have been posted before. www.actca.asn.au/ankcnotices/Flyball_08.pdf Does anyone know: a) If AFA points count for ANKC titles or do you have to get points at ANKC events? b) If any ANKC comps are organised yet?

So Many Different Breeds......
Yarrowfell replied to Mrsdog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes Daisy is entered at the Nationals (her first comp). We were going to Crookwell but that has been cancelled so the nationals will be our first attempt. I am praying for a cool weekend (rain would be good) as if it gets hot she will not run! -

Breeding Obed/agilty Titled Dogs Together
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks for all the interesting replies. I have just mated my bitch so will be interested to see the outcome. I had to choose between: 1) A boy that last time with same bitch produced structurally lovely babies (multi class in shows - conformation) and another baby that I think is incredibly bright (in CCD and Flyball atm). 2) A conformation CH but he produced what I think was an amazingly bright puppy (but too small for the show ring) last time to the litter sister of my bitch. I chose option number two so now I wait to see what (if we get any) the babies are like. -
Teaching Dog To Jump Onto Flyball Box
Yarrowfell posted a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am after suggestion on how to teach a small dog (Pug) to "jump" at the Flyball box so she sets it off. She runs up now and paws ball out and then brings to me. Philippa -
Another Question - Recall In Cd
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was just curious if using a name (apart from when you start off etc..) was an automatic zero. I spoke to several other people after (some judges) who were surprised at his score. Anyway thank you all for your replies. It was one day, one judge and one opinion. -
Another Question - Recall In Cd
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
One finish command/signal (and his name). When asked later the judge said if not for using him name he would have got 1 minor (failure to sit). -
Another Question - Recall In Cd
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Dog did not anticipate, nor did he lift him bum as I was walking away. I have no idea if I left a pause between his name and the command because I don't remember using his name. JUdge said he got a minor for failure to sit and then a zero because I used his name. If I had not used his name he would have got 1 minor (failure to sit). -
I am curious about others views on this: A CD recall: Leave you dog- Dog Stays (Command -STAY) About turn and halt Call your dog - dog comes but STANDS in front (Command - COME) Finish your dog - Dog comes around back to heel position and sits (Command DOGS NAME - ROUND) Score - 0

No, was just a discussion. Curious to see what other people think. -
Question On Ankc Rules For Obedience Titles
Yarrowfell replied to Yarrowfell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
So if I have a dog that has 3 passes (not applied for title) in CD: NOVICE CLASS: For dogs, six months of age or over, and of either sex which are not eligible for the title of Companion Dog' (C.D.). So according to this I can't put him/her in CD. Then I read on: NOTES: (a) An Exhibit which has gained sufficient awards to qualify for the title of C.D., C.D.X. or U.D. shall NOT be eligible to compete in a higher class at an Obedience Trial until such time as the owner/s have lodged an application for recognition of the title with the Canine Control in the State or Territory in which the registered owner/s reside, Bummer: Can't go in Open either!!
