  1. That's wonderful news Daisy! Hope it all works out for you
  2. For me, this is the main reason that when we fostered, we fostered through a rescue that had quarantine kennels (Cordy's). I would never (and will never) take a dog directly from the pound. My own dog means too much to me to put her at risk.
  3. Also, you'll need to seal the concrete/brick. Parvo poo can spray up the walls so you'll need to seal it quite high (at least waist height). If it's not sealed, nasties can get into the cracks and missed by bleach. Think of a 6 foot run (length wise), sealed concrete base, sealed concrete walls to waist height for 3/4 length, full height for 1/4 (to form like a shed), roof over top. Concrete slopes slightly to gate which is over a large drain with extra concrete outside. Everything that is used in quarantine ONLY gets used in quarantine. Soaked in bleach after every new dog. Bleach really is your best friend. Any part of you that touches the quarantine area/dog needs to be treated before going to a non quarantine area (even just the grass outside the run. It's difficult to set up, and it will be a permanent structure when done due to the nature of doing it right. You'll also need to be able to treat your car if you transport a dog that's in quarantine (possibly best way to do it is with a wire crate that you can bleach thoroughly rather than having them on the seat/floor).
  4. Name: Liisa Age (optional): Late 20's Location: Cairns Rescue Group: None currently (but volunteer for YAPS) Time in Rescue: Couple of years, but only helping out where I can Who can vouch for: I used to live with Lil Pixie, rented a house from Sidoney - they can vouch for the way I treated my own dogs. No-one has been to my current house and I have no setup for fostering atm anyway. Preferred Breed: Small Experience (if any): Have fostered (with LittlePixie when we shared a house), transported, house checks, donations etc, volunteered time at Staffy Rescue and YAPS. Currently able to: House checks in Cairns/Innisfail/Tablelands area (anywhere within 2 hours of Cairns basically). Can transport. Can overnight care (or very short term care) small dogs only (and only after quarantine period elsewhere). Occaisional donations. May be able to organise cheaper flights into/out of Cairns with Virgin freight. Will only assist MDBA rescue members - sorry, have been burnt too many times before and will not support rescues that send out any dog undesexed, or who rehome unsuitable temperaments or who put their carer's dogs (or other dogs) at risk through no quarantine prior to care. May be able to foster small dogs soon (if we move - if we stay here I will be unable to).
  5. I'm in Cairns. Can't get Nutro here unless you have it shipped to you. There are a couple of DOL advertisers who can ship it up here. Probably easier to go with something in the pet supplies place though - Pet Cafe on Anderson St sells superpremium at a reasonable price. Would probably only need to get a smallish bag. what I want to know is, where the hell does she get her BARF patties from!?!?!?! That would solve almost all my problems!
  6. Woo hoo!! Great going Pix You've put a lot of work into her since you got her and she's so responsive and eager to please you. You both deserve this
  7. Guys, please adhere to signature guidelines or your lovely work will be taken away - 550 pixels wide, 150 pixels tall and no more than 50kb (50 000 bytes). You can check by right clicking on your signature and then choosing properties. ALL of the ones with animation are way over and some of the other ones are as well.
  8. If you are making signatures, please ensure they are 550 (wide) x 150 (tall) pixels and under 50k resolution or they will be removed by Troy.
  9. Just a quick one to show off my new signature - figured I might as well do one for myself Still not 100% happy with it, but good enough for now.
  10. I found the best people to ask are the vets. When I first got here I was told the tick season wasn't so bad etc etc, went into my local vet and asked and told he'd seen 4 cases THAT WEEK and that it was one of the worst seasons they'd had. It's now July, winter, and the tick risk is still 'high'. He's still getting a couple of cases per week in this area. Other areas close by haven't had any for a while, so it can even differ by suburb.
  11. I live in FNQ and it's still 'high' danger for paralysis ticks up here. I use the killtick/preventix (sp?) collars (whichever is available) and they work wonders. I still check her over every day and I keep her coat short to make it easier to check. So far she's never had one *touch wood*
  12. Aww, thanks Freckles. Was only using basic eraser and layers though, which I've only done before on 2 OOB attempts. This worked out much better than my OOB attempts :D I just need a decent program to work with! Corel 10 is not my favourite Hurry up new computer!
  13. More photos of the shitties Siv!! Thanks I'm quite proud of that one.
  14. When did you get into Shitties Siv? I missed that one! I'll give it a go as well, but I'm only new to this so Freckles will have a better one!
  15. Freckles - that's exactly the image I had in my head for that one Good work!

    Barker

I am so very sorry Kristie. It was a freak accident. No-one's fault. Be gentle with yourself. RIP Barker. Your mummy loves you very much.
  17. I say start as you mean to go on Every 2 hours, after eating, drinking, waking up and playing. 10 mins max (due to cold) and constantly say your toilet word - treat when toileting achieved, ignore if it goes inside. Congrats on your pup Give us some info/photos!! We lurves photos.
  18. I am so sorry honey RIP Mr Gil. I'll miss you little buddy. Love to you and yours K. Wish I could be there to give you a cuddle.
  19. Harminee - that wedding photo one is incredible. Can't wait until I get my new computer and can run my decent graphics program again.
  20. This is my first attempt. Using a REALLY old graphics program that has no tutorials anywhere, so it's a little rough. Good learning experience though
  21. I was told that with large breed dogs, you shouldn't walk them until they are 12 months? Just let them play (i.e., go to offlead park or in back yard and let them play as they will, but no 'formal' exercise). Is this right?
  22. Give her fatty but good cuts of meat (lamb flaps, I think chicken necks and wings are good for fat). Also increase her dry (if you feed it) by a small amount and give her a few meals over the course of the day if you can.
  23. PP - HOW did you do that?!!? That looks great.
  24. You really need to be speaking to a professional trainer about this - no-one will be able to say without seeing Buster first.
