  1. rat bait is such horrible stuff. It should be illegal. I hope your girl pulls though. She's a tough cookie to get this far. You're doing everything you possibly can - don't let yourself get eaten up by guilt!!
  2. Erny, I hope you find a resolution for your girl soon. I'd be looking for a new vet as well. The current one doesn't seem to be responding to your concern at all. Printing this thread out is a good idea Can you get a copy of the test results already done to take to a new vet rather than repeating the tests? or have them get in contact with this other guy? Anything to save the poor girl yet more stress.
  3. Going to google it, but what are the signs of hypothyroid? edited to add - okay, googled it and she doesn't have any signs whatsoever, infact she seems to be the opposite to most of these signs, in a good way And what is douching? I think I know, but want to make sure I get it right girl05, definitely not a vaccination reaction. She was vaccinated months ago and was diagnosed with yeasty ears at that appointment (first vet appointment with me). She was not vaccinated for years before that.
  4. Would a food allergy have any other signs? And can a food allergy cause yeasty ears? Is the cream something that can be used long term or just short term for improvment? The stuff I have atm is Surolan.
  5. Tim_m99 - she's on an all natural diet now (don't know what she was on before I got her, I suspect kibble though). She doesn't get any sugars except the natural ones contained in fruit and vegges as part of her barf diet. She doesn't get any grains/cereals etc at all, nor any starchy vegges. I really don't think it's diet. I will look into a naturopath, however, I will be moving to Cairns so I don't know what the chances of finding one able to treat animals up there will be. Will give it a shot though Ceilidh - I was wrong about what I'm using, it's actually antibiotic drops, so I won't be able to continue using them anyway as they would lose effectiveness over time (and I hate the idea of antibiotics anyway, especially long term.) Leo seems to be the most highly recommended. Will give that one a try and follow your directions And I agree with you - vet has said they'll never get 'good', but I'm going to try my damndest to get them that way - any improvement is a bonus Thanks all.
  6. I think Epiotic is the one she has now? I'd have to double check when I go home. So, an alcohol based cleaner and at least every day seems to be what is suggested so far. I can do that Ceilidh - her ears are so far gone that the vet says there is no way of ever getting her ears right again. The best is just to control it so it doesn't get worse, and doesn't cause her discomfort. It has already narrowed her ear canals etc. dogmad - what drops are you using? This sounds like the same story as my girl (ears at least). I've got her on a barf diet and that seems to be helping overall. Thanks all so far
  7. Hi all, Hoping someone can help. Minnie has yeast infections in both ears. It is under control using antibacterial drops from the vets (very expensive) but the bottle is nearly finished. Initially I was doing her ears 2 x per day for nearly 4 weeks (vet advised 21 days). Currently I am doing her ears 2 - 3 times per week and she seems comfortable. The vet has advised that her ears will never completely clear as the infection has been there for years (before you yell at me - I've only had her a few months) and that once the drops were finished just to do her ears with ear drops. My question is, what drops should I look for? Since the medicated drops have it under control quite well, should I go back to the vet to get another prescription and keep her on it for life (she's 8 1/2) or will one of the store bought drops do okay at keeping her comfortable? I don't mind doing her ears daily if that is what is needed. I've been looking at http://www.thevetshed.com/catalog/index.ph...6c338fdd50c04bb but I can't work out which is better for my needs. One reason I'd like to get this sorted is that I'll be moving up to Cairns this year and obviously, the heat and humidity are going to increase any yeast production she is currently having I hate it when I can see her rubbing her ears. I just want her to be comfortable, so if I have to buy the expensive drops and do them daily - I don't care. But if I don't have to do this, I'd be happier Thanks in advance.
  8. Give 1/2 cup just veggie mix in the morning and 1 frame at night. I know Pixie's 35 - 40kg rottie x golden gets 2 - 3 frames per day or 2 cups of veggie mix with sardines and yoghurt... And yes, she is porky
  9. Some dogs need more food for body weight, some need less. *shrug*. It's just like people. Some people can eat a 3 course meal every night and not put on weight and others need to just eat a salad. If you reduce her food intake, you're not going to starve her. If she's maintaining weight and looking good, then she's getting what she needs. If she's putting on weight, you're overfeeding her. My girl is only meant to get 1/2 a barf patty a day. She lost weight on that so now she gets 1/2 patty + 2 - 3 chicken necks or a chicken wing per day (so essentially double the food recommended). But she is maintaining a nice weight, her teeth are great, her breath is good, her coat is shiny and healthy and she has energy - plus she can now jump and play whereas before she couldn't (old dog syndrome). If I was feeding her not on patties, she'd get 1/2 cup veggie mix 2 times a week (mixed with tinned sardines and yoghurt) and 2 chicken wings/6 necks/1/2 chicken frame or similar amount of other meat every other day.
  10. You can call and give CC details - this is what I did. They were extremely fast and it was great service. As to what and how - I've been advised (once I move to Cairns - paralysis tick country) to use Interceptor Spectrum once monthly with Advantix every two weeks. Opinions? Thanks, Liisa
  11. Crysti_Lei, I am so very sorry over the loss of your baby girl. I'm having trouble typing as the tears are flowing so fast. I had to stop and wipe them away while reading so I could still see the screen, but the comment 'A daddy without his daughter and a mummy without her baby bear' just started me absolutely bawling. What a wonderful, special girl you had in Brodie. She will live on forever in your heart (and now in a part of mine as well). I believe that she will be looking down on you and will join you again one day. Rest in Peace little big girl. Your mummy and daddy obviously adored you.
  12. Oh no, that was not what I was hoping to hear :D I'm so sorry Crysti_Lei.... I hope you can eventually find some comfort in the fact that she is no longer hurting...she's happy and healthy again and will always watch over you.
  13. I also wouldn't be feeding her until she goes - what goes in must come out y'know - and if it ain't coming out but is still going in.... well, you get the picture.
  14. Feed her a meal of PAL. If there's no blockage then it should all come straight out. Hopefully the enema will work though.
  15. I can highly recommend the fish scaler thing after seeing how much Little Pixie got out of Holly in 5 mins. She was half the size!!
  16. RIP Harm. My condolences Kitkat - he knew how much he was/is loved and will be watching over you always until you can be together again.
  17. You poor chook  What disgusting people to take her from you and introduce her to danger Lots of cuddles to you and Jinta.
  18. Oh no ;) So sorry Lilypily... I hate their short lives...I think I will be taking a long break once my current lot are gone...just too heartbreaking.
  19. Definitely Aloveen - shampoo and conditioner - and then the squirt spray Ummm, there's an online store but I can't remember the name of it and don't have it saved in favourites at work. If no-one else has by tonight and I remember, I will post the link then.
  20. Deep breaths Boxa - vet will fix her up....even if it's a blockage they can fix her...that's what we pay them the big bucks for We're all sending get well vibes her way..... Try and get some sleep tonight.
  21. I'll leave it to Pixie to update how Kaeleigh is going... We've been advised to report him to the department of housing... apparently they have to investigate all claims, and if they get enough complaints they'll relocate the family. J says he constantly has his doors and windows open and he barely ever hears them - the night of this abuse she was a bit whiney apparently, a little over the top but not THAT bad - his dogs have always been worse (bad neighbours dogs that is). This guy is the same one that was there ages ago - we'd just never seen him until now because she had an avo on him that's only just run out...apparently he used to bash her quite often - sometimes even in the front yard. So, I have a letter to write to the department of housing now - not just about this incident, but also about their kids who throw rocks at people, their old dogs and what we put up with etc...will have to do that after the weekend - my dad is coming for a visit and will be in Sydney for Sat/Sun so going to be too busy before Mon/Tues ish.
  22. Haven - he was absolutely serious. The barrage of language and abuse I copped this morning at 5:50am was incredible.
  23. Mind you, I've never seen this guy before - dunno if he's her new boyfriend or what...but he's insane. I do hear him at about 11pm - midnight most nights coming home drunk as anything and stumbling up their driveway, cursing all the way. Maybe I should tell him if he wakes me up again by coming home drunk I'll kill him?? (that WAS sarcasm - I would never, ever hurt anything purposely). And to think when we moved in we were worried about the other neighbour, who has turned into a godsend. In fact, I'm going over tonight to talk to him about this - he's a rough guy himself, but with a heart of gold when he decides he likes you - and he likes us
  24. Highly recommend petpamper - they sell through ebay (and maybe through the website??) and are reasonably priced, very, very cute and mine hasn't scratched so far... Depending on the size you can have up to 3 lines on the back, with the name on the front...
