  1. That's awful to hear. We left our two guinea pigs and cat in the care of a "friend" for a week with an eskie full of food. After our holiday we picked them up, he gave us most of the food back, and the morning after both guinea pigs were dead. He'd fed them all manner of weird things and poisoned them. Our 8 year old was devastated, so I can only begin to imagine how awful it would be to lose all your dogs in such a horrible manner. It's just awful.
  2. That's horrible. Why/whom would be leaving baits, are there any warning signs? I live near some dunes and once a year there are warning signs that the shire have laid baits, I assume for culling rabbits. It's next to the dog beach.
  3. My dog is aware of what clothing I'm wearing... if I'm in casual clothes she's all well and good, but when I put a shirt and trousers on she lies on the floor with her head flat looking glum. I especially noticed it today as I was wearing casual clothes for a while as woke up early, but the minute I changed into work garb she knew I was going to work.
  4. Yes, it's just along from the Naked Fig cafe ('Naked' being the operative word). Enjoy Cottesloe
  5. I'm not one for getting up early, but I managed it yesterday... Perth is spectacular at sunrise.
  6. Looks to me like the nudist beach in Cotts..!??
  7. Cheers, I love the plate on the old Val. Really sets it off.
  8. Yes to all. I'm pretty sure you'll get a high ratio of Yesses
  9. I was inspired by Spoony to post some non-furry animal photos. I took these a few weeks ago at a Retro car show in Perth (sorry they're large, I couldn't figure out how to change the width): Just need to photoshop out the guys head in the last one...!
  10. Just been digging around and found these pics of when Asta was a wee little puppy. And a video of her losing a little game with Bernard the cat:
  11. You can always upload to Youtube, then download it in compressed format with keepvid.com (or one of the many youtube downloader websites). It's a quick and dirty method which doesn't require software skills.
  12. That's such a good idea! Shame it's in Adelaide, if it was in Perth I'd be right on it!
  13. Just ordered mine from booktopia thru BookGoose.com.au, which gave me free delivery :) http://www.bookgoose.com.au/PriceFind/dogservations-serena-hodson/9780733632358/ Can't wait to get it.
  14. Wear ear plugs :) I would knock on their door and have a friendly chat. You have dogs too, you know the score. Sounds to me like they're aware of the issue and they're trying, so utilise that to your advantage. Suggest they have the dog indoors at night, or they put a crate in the laundry as Poodle Wrangler said. It could be an opportunity to improve relations with your neighbours, you're both dog owners so have something in common.
  15. The 4th one is really interesting... looks like some kind of vortex!
  16. Oh, and the video quality is supposed to be excellent too. I haven't tried.
  17. I have a very confident answer to this... Sony DSC-RX100. It's arguably the best in class point 'n' shoot, 20MP, and excellent ISO capability. If you know what you're doing you can get shots as good as you can with a DLSR. I have a Canon 550D but use the Sony most of the time because it's so convenient. The Mk1 might suit you and it's pretty cheap 2nd hand. Here's a couple of samples, but these have been uploaded through lossy Facebook, and keep in mind these are low light shots...
  18. I'll notify the council and hope other people have too. I'll recommend others do too. Unfortunately the girl who was threatened was only in the area last week dog sitting for her parents. I spoke to her the day after it happened and she was still shaken up by it. I'll keep an eye out for her parents as I'd recognise the dog if I saw him again (border collie). The guy doesn't seem to be a regular in the park, I think he alternates to relinquish the heat. Maybe I could put a poster up in the park to suggest people make a report if they see abusive behaviour or violent dogs in the park, without being too specific. Thanks for the advice, it's hard to know what to do in a situation like this. It's in Scarborough beach Yonjurro.
  19. Yep, that's a clever idea if you have a friend with a larger car. Otherwise perhaps buy a different car to suit your lifestyle. I definitely wouldn't have the dog alone in the caravan, it's too risky.
  20. The stuff you put on your nails to stop you biting them.... maybe get a big tub of that and paint all the wood  When my BC was young she ate most of the house, including big chunks of the stairway and she even took big chucks out of the walls(!). I dread to think how many $$$$s she cost us.
  21. This. :) Do you have Adobe Lightroom? There's some great videos on Youtube that really help turn a good photo into a great photo. It really helped me get confidence in photography (and win some awards).
  22. Why not put all your luggage in the caravan and have the dog in the car with the kids?
  23. A guy frequents my local park with two aggressive staffies. A few months ago one of his dogs was attacking another dog, and the distressed owner of the other dog pushed the staffy off with his foot. The staffy owner ranted in his face and for a while it really looked like violence would ensue. There's been a number of problems with this guy over the last 6 months, but he still comes to the park and still causes trouble. Yesterday his dogs attacked a border collie, and when the young female owner complained he followed her up the street shouting. What would be the best course of action? Nobody wants to tackle the guy directly, and I don't know where he lives. I can't imagine calling the police would go anywhere?
  24. Mine's addicted to sticks. For a while I tried weening her off them with a fake stick but never had any luck. I keep an eye on her as I don't want her choking on splinters.
