Lovely story especially for today. There are some good people in the world. I remember the Ash Wednesday bushfires in Melbourne. An elderly man who had lost his home and all his possessions struggled into the rescue centre in Emerald with his dog and the nurses told him the dog wasn't allowed in for health reasons. An understanding doctor over-ruled them and the dog was allowed to stay. That dog would have meant so much to him. It's good that some medical people understand.

Y36 has a deposit.

As far as I know he is still there. Yes WeimMe He does have a special quality. If he were a horse you could say he had presence. He reminds me of my first dog which I think is why I like him so much.

The fine should be bigger or the owner should do time in jail.

This beautiful dog is still at DAS and still has nothing. He had his first round of injections yesterday and appears to be still a puppy. I so hope he finds something soon. It must be hard for a pup to be confined for so long. I wish I could take him because I have seriously fallen in love and if I took him I would call him Cedric, but I am too old for a young active dog. Plus I am going away shortly and my other two are booked in to a kennel. Please someone. He would make a great agility dog.

It may not feel like it - but DOL has actually treated you fairly kindly I hope there is a breeder with whom you 'click' and who has what you are seeking. Good luck on the quest :) I think that being attacked is better than being ignored. When you are under attack you can choose to ignore, but when you are being ignored there is nothing that you can do. Some DOLers are also very helpful and kind and I have learnt a lot about people as well as dogs in the short time I have been on here. Thankyou DOL. Perfume I hope you learn to appreciate this kinder side as well.

Yes but would the photos of the kennels be legit anyway? How would you know?

FWIW here is my opinion. If I was going to buy a pup I would want to be interviewing the breeder to make sure that the pups had been well treated and the parents selected for the right reasons i.e. health and temperament. I would also expect the breeder to be wanting to meet me. I would not be buying a pup over the Internet. I would not be waiting years for a pup. That would be years of my life wasted. But then I would not be setting my heart on one particular pup (or even one particular breed) and nothing else would do. Before I decided on a breed I would be checking on availability and if rare I would be looking elsewhere. Obviously I am not as choosy as some on here are. A dog is a dog is a dog and I love them all. I think someone asking for photos of the purchaser and the inside of their home is invasive of their privacy and it is something the police would be advising people not to comply with, especially as the breeder would not know if the photos were legit so why ask for them. I would be suspicious.

OP do yourself a favour and stop posting.

Thankyou for all your suggestions. I do have Ice numbers in my mobile phone but I often forget to take it with me when I go shopping and my Ice contacts are interstate anyway. I hate the thought of my dogs being inside the house for a few days and no-one knowing they are there. I just want a card that says I have pets at home which will need to be checked if for whatever reason I am incapacitated. I will put it in with my licence so it is an obvious place. I already have a little card that gives my blood group, so I will put them together. I will go to Officeworks tomorrow and see if I can get a little laminated pouch. Thankyou to everyone. Some really good suggestions.

Thanks for the replies. I will try Officeworks. Thanks for the suggestion Airedaler. CnR I am thinking more if I were temporarily out of action and unconscious. it would be awful if my dogs were alone in the house and no-one knew they were there.

Does anyone know where you can either get or have made a credit card sized laminated card saying that you own dogs. I want one for my wallet just in case I'm in an accident or something similar and people will know that I have dogs at home that will need to be cared for.

I went to see this dog (Y36 at DAS) and he is as gorgeous as his photo. He has this way of tilting his head and giving you his full attention. He was so friendly and just wanted to be loved and to love me back. I was tempted to put down a deposit but it would not be kind to him to bring him here. He has such a lot of living to do. He looks quite young, and I thought maybe a kelpie cross because of his ears and the black spots on his legs which made me think there might be some GSP in there. So far he has nothing, and no sign of an owner anywhere. Such a beautiful boy. He is not due until next week but it would be lovely if he found something before then. A truly beautiful dog!

Try to talk to them and tell them Barrie's story in mackiemad's post, and if they keep doing it say you will go to their parents. If that doesn't work go to the parents, and tell them if it continues you will go to the police. If that doesn't work go to the police. It is serious and what happened to mackiemad's dog could happen to your dog, and if it got to the police stage I would be insisting they do something.

On these forums posters often recommend that people seek the advice of a professional trainer. I am just wondering if professional dog trainers have to have some sort of registration or can anyone set themselves up as a trainer? Or to put it differently if you were looking for a dog trainer what would you be looking for?

Yes quintessence they are gorgeous. This dog which has just appeared on the pound website doesn't need a makeover. It must be the best looking dog I have ever seen on a pound website. Y36 at DAS He is stunning. Hope he goes home.

Brisbane Behaviourist - Female Rivalry
BarbedWire replied to 02Dogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unfortunately , it is not you who decides positions below your own dominant one - it is the dogs. I agree and for the sake of the underdog you have to run with it. -
I am no expert but I agree about a dog attacking a sick dog or a dog trying to raise its status in the pack. I also think your move may have unsettled the status quo and i think I read somewhere that you are sleeping on a mattress on the floor. In Lucy's eyes that might mean you are less of the boss and maybe she needs you to be the boss to maintain the status quo. In a doggy way Lucy is feeling insecure and there is a change in the pack hierarchy. (Hope I don't sound like Cesar Milan because I have no sympathy for him at all.) If you don't have crates I would be leaving them in separate rooms until you have seen the behaviourist.

I have just bought a wire crate for an 8 week old beagle. It cost $119 at PetBarn. It is Animates brand. So far it has been excellent. I trained her in one day. Firstly I fed her in the crate. Then when she fell asleep in my arms which is sudden and often when they are so young I put her down in the crate, leaving the door open. Then when next I fed her in the crate I shut the door for about ten minutes. I continued this sort of thing all day. That night she slept in the crate. She cried a little at first but then settled. When ever she goes in her crate I put a soft chew in with her as well as some of her toys. A week later she is perfectly happy to stay there all night. I love the wire crate because I know she is safe in there especially away from power cords and indoor plants and my curtains which she wants to swing on. So far she is experimenting with chewing absolutely everything, and she would wreck a soft crate very quickly.

I have made my donation to the West Queanbeyan vet as requested.

Wonderful news Maree! So pleased! Both names suit her. I think I prefer Daisy but maybe it has become too popular. How about Maisie? I did promise a $50 donation in the other thread. I will make the donation to your website.

She was Y22? She looks gorgeous. Does she have a name yet? Is she up for adoption?

It has made my day. I feel sorry for the handler.

Thanks again for your advice. The pup sleeps in her crate of her own accord and before when I had a shower she was in there asleep so I just shut the door so that I knew she would be safe. My old boy was asleep in the crate next to hers. She did not even wake. I am not leaving her outside for very long and I know my backyard is very safe, but eventually when she is full time with her family she will be outside for long periods. I don't want her to become too dependent on me. She does love to be carried everywhere and she likes to fall asleep on my shoulders. She also whimpers and whines a little asking to be picked up. I am not picking her up until she stops and has stopped for ten seconds. Your last para about the house manners is useful because I had not thought about it. It's still very early days. It's just crate training and house training and travelling in the car atm. I will talk to my daughter about it. You have been a great help. I am very grateful.
