See bolded part. I do understand what you are saying here and I probably agree with you, but I have also been guilty. The sick and the scared get rescued first. There was a DOLer involved with border collie rescue. I can't remember her DOL name, but she was located in Canberra and did flyball. Perhaps someone else remembers. The rescue was located in NSW. Something to do with Araluen, I think. ACTCDC may be able to help. Sorry I am not being more useful but I do understand that you are desperate and I am trying to help. I could PM you her real name. eta It might be worth contacting koalathebear who might have some useful suggestions.

Trust Worthy Rescue ?
BarbedWire replied to Staffy_luv's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh dear. Sounds more than not good. Sounds dodgy. However, rescuing can be very very expensive. $8,000 could be expended easily and quickly depending on what the group finds wrong with dogs they rescue. But to delete you and block you would suggest that they are not being honest or, at the very least, being quite immature in not understanding and accepting that people who donate have every right to (and probably should) ask questions as to whether the donations go. Seriously how many rescued dogs cost a rescue group $8000? :) -
What work do Amstaffs do?

MRB I also have a dog obsesssed with cat eviction patrol. She checks the yard out before she starts her tea. I also agree with the second part of your post as well. Sorry I don't do ghosts. OP I believe there is something there that the dog can smell and it makes it uneasy. Try washing the area with a strong disinfectant

Sorry my post was not well expressed. I meant that if you gave your dog its regular meal there for several days then it might lose its fear.

Try feeding her there and see what happens. :)

Such welcome news SG. Well done

BarbedWire replied to mackiemad's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I have rung the LDH and Jack is on Malaseb skin wash for a chronic skin condition and dermatitis which started off as a flea allergy but which has progressed. He is 6 kilos and is available for $300. -

He is a super gorgeous little dog. Unfortunately I don't live in Victoria, but he is definitely my sort of dog. -
There are issues with plane flights for dogs who have seizures. They have to be sedated first and the sedation only lasts a few hours, so they can't go for long trips: for example from the east coast to the west coast of Australia.

My vet told me that the phenobarbitone would not stop my dogs's seizures completely only make them less frequent and less severe. She only has about four seizures each year and they are horrible to watch and she urinates afterwards, but I have truly just learnt to live with them although it's no fun seeing her bang her head against the washing machine with a sickening thud. I have tried really hard to find triggers but I have had no luck. BC Crazy - your dog has done well. This website is useful. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/ ETA This is the part where it talks about triggers http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/SeizureTriggers.htm

Please I did not mean to stop this thread. :) The other thread I provided the link for is not quite the same issue. Please post and give the OP some advice. -
Acceptable Play Between Pup And Older Dog

Nushie, you may find this thread interesting http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/260399-a-new-puppy-advice-please/page__p__6597145__fromsearch__1#entry6597145 -
Personally I complain when dogs bark in class as I then can't hear what is being said. (I have a hearing impairment.) I do know it can be difficult to stop but if nothing is being done about it I would be asking for a refund. I also think dogs with a barking tendency learn to bark from other dogs.

The thought of a dog having seizures used to alarm me but now that I own one who is probably now officially an epileptic it doesn't worry me too much. Her first seizure (around 18 months of age) I denied and put down to her eating something that didn't agree with her, but then when more came especially one big one where, suspecting that she had been poisoned, I put her in the car and drove like a madwoman to the vet, but by the time I got there it was all over. She has had a blood test done (not sure what for. I tend to rely on my vets) and it was all normal. I now just keep a record of when she has seizures, or the ones I notice anyway, and how long they last for and if they last more than a few minutes or become more frequent there is a medication that the vet can prescribe, (forget the name), but it needs to be given at the same time each day and she would need monthly blood tests. I am reluctant to put her on this because she has a vet phobia, and really I can live with the seizures which probably bother me more than her. I just keep her safe while they are happening and tell her I love her afterwards.

Best Book On Reading Dog's Body Language

I recommend Gwen Bailey's What is my dog thinking? Very readable and lots of photos. Where I live there is a copy in the local library so perhaps you could check there for something. It will save you money. -
What Food Can Your Dog Not Resist?

Gorgeous photo DDD, I can understand why you love him so much. Good luck with all of it -
BC Crazy I am probably not much help but my 12 year old dog is in the middle of a course of cartrophen injections. He has been on rymadyl (carprofen) for a while and I was told long term use may not be good for his kidneys or liver. I have tried the cartrophen injections before and they did not seem to make much difference, but this time after the third one I can see an improvement. I have also been told to keep his weight down which is not an issue because I believe a slim dog is a healthy dog and I regularly weigh both my dogs. I did not know about limiting his exercise though, not that he goes for long walks, probably about thirty minutes each day, but I thought that in cases of arthritis it is best to stay active as long as possible (use it or lose it). My vet has not recommended acupuncture and I like to follow her advice. After all I am paying for her years of training and I trust her advice will be the best available.

Mita, that story is heartbreaking. When a family is in trouble the pets can become so important especially for the children. When I was twelve I would have done the same thing to save my dog. Mel, if you know of any pounds that have a responsible scheme to help families in financial trouble get their dogs released, I would be interested in making a regular contribution. I do now contribute to rescues when I see a young dog in trouble, but I am never really sure where that money goes to.

A good post MW. Some people who have fallen on hard times (unemployment, divorce) have to choose between saving their dogs or feeding their kids. A helping hand from the more fortunate is what is needed. I wonder sometimes if instead of donating to help a pound dog into rescue, it would be better to help the dog return to its own home. I think governments should be offering cheap desexing programs for the financially disadvantaged.

I have just seen this thread and it is interesting. I have a schnauzer cross and I don't have her professionally groomed. I just trim the hair around her eyes and wash her myself. To be honest I have never even looked at her ears apart from having a sniff every so often especially as I do remember the vet telling me once not to pluck the hair in her ears because it causes more problems than it's worth. A few months ago she was running around with her head on one side and since she is an epileptic I worried about something happening in her brain. I took her to the vet and he couldn't find anything out of the usual and just wondered if she had been bitten by an insect. The next day she was holding her head normally which was great, but then I found what looked like a stone made of hair on my lounge room floor and I have wondered if it was a hairball that came from her ear. I would be interested to know what other posters think about this.

I am also interested in laminate flooring. Some of the newer ones look real but without the drawbacks of wood flooring which needs maintenance? I am concerned about the ones that lock together because like Christina I am concerned about piddles getting into the cracks. I would want a floor that was totally sealed. ash1 is your flooring totally waterproof? If it just locks together how can it be fully sealed?

Video: Baby Tries To Take Bone From Golden Retriever
BarbedWire replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Some people don't deserve children. The dog obviously has an amazing temperament but what happens when the kid tries to do the same with a visiting dog or when the family is out visiting? Why put your child at risk? Why not teach children how to behave around dogs? -
