I believe they're used to temp test Greys. Thank you. I'm not sure I am comfortable with that.

Why do you need terriers? What exactly do you mean by terrier? Westie? Airedale? Bull terrier? Jack Russell?

Impact Of No Pull Harnesses On Dogs

Thanks luvdogs. She has had her tooth out and teeth cleaned with no dramas. She is eleven months old and does have an undershot jaw (part pug). The vet did recommend brushing her teeth because it looks as if she may have problems in the future. The trouble with that is that she really dislikes having her mouth touched. I do give her bones and dental chews. I thought I might try the product that you add to their water but my understanding is that it only softens the tartar and makes it easier to remove so I would still have to brush.

I have always wondered about this too. Or it's not worth paying to get them out because they are too old or too ill, or it's cheaper for the pound to put them down.

I left a dog once because I thought my presence (I was very distraught) would upset her. I just waited outside until it was all over, then I took her body home. I guess people cope in different ways though. ETA It was the first dog I had pts. I did feel badly afterwards and since then I have stayed.

Love this post especially the bolded part

I just want to say that over the years I have had a number of different dogs and I have loved them all for different reasons. I think you are probably still grieving for your staffy and are looking for the whippet to be a replacement. Nothing will ever replace your staffy boy. That's just the way it is. Treasure his memory and the happy times you had together. Your whippet is a different dog with different qualities and you can love him for those. I have an old dog here who is very soft and undemanding and I love him because he is just so sweet. Every so often he shoves his head under my arm and I know he wants a cuddle. I love him for his softness.

This boy is no longer on the website so he has either been adopted or gone home.

Another Saturday Senior who only has until Tuesday 5 pm. Still a lot of life in the old fellow. Yard 22 Breed: Lab x Shepherd (Male) Age Approx: 10yrs+ Well this old bloke is just gorgeous and he has so much going for him. He has great basic training and will even wave when you ask him to. He is not good with dogs so would need to be only that could hang out with his people. Although he loves treats his big love is playing fetch gently with the tennis ball. He is a lovely senior that needs a loving home to retire in. One of the faves of the day. — at DAS (Canberra Pound).

Heike will come to you. Sandra Hassett a vet at the animal medical centre in Phillip does behavioural consultations. I have used her and she was good. http://www.animalmedicalcentre.com.au/team/dr-sandra-hassett-b-v-sc-m-b-a-m-i-v-c-a/

Depends what the problem is but Heike Hahner is good. http://www.braidwoodnsw.com/heike-hahner-dog-training-animal-behaviour

That makes sense Thistle. Not many dogs would allow their owner to be treated like that.

My dog is booked in for surgery. The vet said that she has a crowded mouth and has suggested cleaning her teeth regularly. Any advice on brushing a dog's teeth please.

I have always found the best way to stop a dog pulling on lead is to teach it to heel without a lead first. If a dog pulls and the handler pulls back it makes the problem worse. The handler needs to learn to be gentle and sensitive with the lead. I think it's like a horse rider with good hands. The lead (reins) is not there for control; it is for communication.

I agree Ronja. The pounds are full of them (staffy x etc) and the pups are openly advertised everywhere and sometimes the breeders put exorbitant prices on them. I have seen so many ads for red nosed pit bulls at my local shopping centre, it's nauseating. What sort of a life will those pups have? I wonder how a puppy farm is defined. Is it just the numbers or the motivation? BYBs who regularly have pups for sale must come close to being puppy farmers.

Dog Parks Vent / Discussion / Etiquette Thread

Funny that. There is a Cocker Spaniel that does that with a tennis ball. She doesn't want her owner to throw the ball but urges anyone standing near her to do so. It's so funny really. I'm always afraid I'll kick her in the head. That is what my dog does with balls too. I don't take balls to dog parks but, as soon as we are inside the local fenced one and she is off the lead, she runs off in search of a ball and usually finds one. She then brings it back to someone who she must think looks promising (usually a young man) and she will behave the same as the dog in that clip. I will ask him to ignore her but usually he gives in and once thrown my dog retrieves the ball and returns and drops it at his feet and the whole process is repeated over and over again until I take her home. -

I don't know if you have seen this but it is what some dogs do with balls. :) https://www.facebook.com/Unexpected.Ent/videos/692798214070066/ eta or sticks -
Dog Parks Vent / Discussion / Etiquette Thread

I think expecting the average dog owner who may have a ball obsessed dog to be able to stop their dog from chasing another dog's ball is just asking for too much. I can call my dog back but it is difficult and all dog owners should be allowed to use and enjoy dog parks just like everyone else. I don't take my dogs to dog parks because others throw balls for their dogs and it stresses me out. Quote from SG in post #3 -

Original post In 12 months time I want my new pup to be ready for trialling. She should be okay; she's pretty smart. I have only had her for a few weeks though :D Just wondering how others are going with these goals and of course I want to post how my girl is going. She has been promoted up one obedience level, so I have three to go to meet my goal. :) Edited to include my original post.
