  1. Hi Gremlin: my wife and I have a wonderful 14 week old Samoyed called Tucker. We're based in the Blue Mountains and searched for a NSW breeder. After much research and some very strong recommendations we ended up with Kylie at Anaky Samoyeds. Kylie and Allen were very helpful. They invited us down to meet them and their dogs. We washed and dried and brushed our Tuckers sire... Pan. This was so that we had a good idea what we were getting ourselves into in regards to grooming. I can't sing the praises enough for Kylie. She talked us through any silly questions we asked. She has been available for us to call if we have any concerns. Tucker was at the higher end of the cost scale. But he's become a major part of our family and I can't imagine our world without him. We did our research on puppy pricing beforehand and I think you will find most (professional) breeders are at the upper end of your price scale. Another option to consider is a rescue Samoyed from the Victorian Samoyed club. I know that the NSW club has a rescue group and we came very close to going that way. Rescue dogs (from the NSW group) are often at the lower end of your pricing scale. Hope that helps a little. Wayne.
  2. thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Barney looks adorable. But then all Samoyeds look adorable. We've been watching sooo many youtube videos... To be honest though... I wasn't worried about our puppy scaring/hurting the sister inlaws cat. In fact, I was kinda hoping that he'd terrorise her and keep her away from me. (I'm allergic to cats, inside 5 minutes and my eyes and nose are running... I'm a mess) We met one of Kylie's cats when we were there. Quite old. But once again... inside a couple of minutes and I was sniffling. Yet I was fine, minutes later when blow drying Pan surrounded by a thick cloud of white hair. We've got a std steel crate for home and I was thinking of getting a similar one for work. But I take your suggestion about a soft one for travelling. Thanks for that. 5 more weeks (or thereabouts)
  3. I'm hoping that this thread is still alive. I've started at page one and read it all the way through. Yes... really. My wife and I decided, after around 10 months research, that we wanted a Samoyed puppy. But we are in a rental. After a couple of months, we finally plucked up the courage to approach our landlord. We included links to articles on the breed and our landlord approved! We talked to people, met breeders and visited Allen and Kylie @ Anaky (we live in the Blue Mountains). They let us brush Pan. And watch a washing and then assist in the drying. WOW... like being in a cloud of white hair. Our puppy was born just two weeks ago last Sunday. He should come home to us early Sept. We're getting a boy. My wife says that's so I'll have someone of a similar IQ to keep me company... (don't know what she meant by that) My wife is a pre-school teacher. So I'm hoping that her training may come in handy to help with training of the puppy. (they certainly helped her to train me) I'm self employed and work from a warehouse/office. Our plan is for our puppy to be with me all day. I've set up an office cubicle sized space that will be covered with waterproof carpet tiles, then a layer of lino'. A large(ish) exercise pen and his cage. My questions... a) is my plan to have him with me 5 days a week practical? b) at XMAS we'll be visiting my wife's family in Melbourne. They have a cat. (she will be one year old in December) Our boy will be 6 months old. Will they get on? or can I count on him to give the cat a hard time? Thanks for all the help you've already given us in the last 31 pages. Wayne & Kyria Chapman Muru Cycles
