Okey dokey. Thanks :) I find insurance terminology extremely confusing Excess, etc. I guess I haven't had much to do with organising insurance policies in the past except "make sure we're covered" LOL. Now as I have a question regarding another insurance company, I guess I should start a new thread on it.

From one crazy cat lady to another, my sincere condolences to you persephone. xx

That is very interesting. Did the first surgery occur before or after commencing insurance for that dog? If the dog you plan to cover does have a pre-existing condition (eg. some kind of stifle issue)and you join the insurer and the six month time period elapses before the vet decides that it is something that will require surgery, would that then be covered by the insurance? Or does the policy require you/your vet to list a pre existing condition that may potentially require surgery in the future?

Agree with this 100%

Sa Nurse Facing Deregistration Over Bestiality Charges...
Snippy replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in In The News
I also found this on the Courier Mail website Hmmm. Victimless crime. Apparently animals are not able to be victimised.... which we all know they are. I think the judge has gotten his statements very wrong. IMO, the dogs are the only innocent party in this conundrum. -
Sa Nurse Facing Deregistration Over Bestiality Charges...
Snippy replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in In The News
Holy cow. That is disgraceful That story was actually about the "de-registration"of her as a Nurse... the original story can be found here Whatever way you look at it, they are all very ill people. -
Oh, I LOVE hearing the comments. I just try not to look like I do He is a big cuddly puppy. I'm sure he gets sick of me walking up to him and hugging him. He gives me a sort of "Mum...really?" look.

Wow is all I can say. Just wow. So, so lucky that there wasn't more of an explosion. That person obviously doesn't know anything about canine behaviour or packs do they. I mean not only could other dogs have been injured but there was the great possibility of humans getting hurt trying to separate dogs. Just an unpleasant incident all-round. This really worries me for a number of reasons. Firstly, because of what happened. I am just glad that your boy was able to be removed from the situation unscathed. I hope none of the other dogs were injured and by that I include mental injury. I had a Border Collie who was mentally damaged by an aggressive dog. He never really got over it. Secondly, because of an unpleasant incident that occurred at my old "local" dog park a few years ago. A man had been rocking up in the park when it was busy and appeared to be a dog lover. He would interact with the dogs as though he was a doggie person and would hand out dog treats. I saw him there one day actually and I had a "feeling." He didn't seem to be attached to any dog in particular...I mentioned it to a friend and she told me she had seen him there too. I know of a couple of people who took their dogs there and got sick, THANKFULLY they knew their dogs very well and knew they were off and they were taken to the vet and escaped any real damage (mind you, being given an emetic is not much fun). I believe that there was at least one dog that was not so lucky. It later turned out that he had been lacing dog treats with ground up snailbait and rat granules. Actually my friend had taken a video of her dogs zooming around the park and managed to get the "weird guy" on video and that was the precursor to him being apprehended. I am just glad that this person WAS apprehended and brought to justice He is lucky I did not catch him :mad I really do not know how some people can live with themselves. That escalated my previous semi-mistrust to complete mistrust of my pets being fed treats from strangers (this includes my cats at shows). I am only sharing that as a warning to people, I do not want to start some sort of hysteria If you don't know the person handing out the treats, or you haven't seen them open the packet right there in front of you, then please don't accept them. I do not suggest for one minute the person Yonjuro mentioned was scattering the treats for any reason other than thinking he was being friendly and 99% of the time people who share treats are animal lovers. I know that I have ventured off topic somewhat, but I really felt that it needed to be shared.

Thanks BC! He certainly thinks so lol, so does everyone who sees him... I don't even look up at the "awwww" and "OMG that dog is so cute-s" anymore... (my boyfriend does though) He carries off the salty, windswept look rather well I think  Jester I mean, not my bf! I think I am pretty lucky to have found him :) Love my Jester boy!

Awesome picture. Love it, not only for the expression on the dogs face but also the contrasts: plain white, spots and then the stripes too. Just chillin' pose is right

Looking For Breeder Of Adopted Rescue Dog
Snippy replied to Snippy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Absolutely. Some people are very good at saying yes and no to all the right things and sometimes, sadly, you can do everything right and screen prospective owners til the cows come homw and still be taken in by a liar. I'm sorry that she had to hear what he's been through because I know that would have been difficult. Happy now that she knows he is in a loving, caring home. And may I just add, she seems a delightful person lol :) -
Hi all just wanted to celebrate the momentous occasion of finding Jester's breeder I thought a celebratory photo post was in order :D I know his coat is far from perfect but I am doing my best to get him on track! Here's a beach pic for starters...

Looking For Breeder Of Adopted Rescue Dog

Just wondering if you have heard anything back from your contacts dancinbcs? (please say yes) I have contacted a prominent breeder from Vic to let them know of the situation, fingers crossed I hear back from them soon. Not quite sure what to say/how to say it in my letter to Dogs Vic... -
Ok thanks for your help Bjelkier. I have had a look at panagenics and might give it a go :)

Hello there all my fellow Samoyed lovers Just wondering what the best shampoo/conditioner is for washing Samoyeds in. My boy is obviously not a show dog, but I do take pride in the appearance of my pets so having him looking in "show condition" is fine by me  I have done a bit of research on the net and found some very different opinions on the matter. From woolwash to human shampoo and conditioner to bluo and blue food colouring in the rinse. Also many seem to like the CC products. Sometimes it is hard to tell if people genuinely approve of these things or if there is a commercial interest there. Anyway, his coat has been terribly neglected in the past and I have been doing my best with grooming him and using a spray conditioner and it has improved his coat from the haystack that it was, but it still needs TLC. I am looking for a shampoo, conditioner and also a coat spray (perhaps with sunscreen in) for him for the future. Thanks in advance Snippy

Interesting reading so far, thanks all. I too (before I adopted a shelter dog) was interested in showing a dog. In fact a few years ago I was very close to having a gundog to show (until the breeder decided he turned out far too nice and decided to keep him)...Don't get me wrong, I understand if you get to the point of having bred that 1 in 100 dog you are going to want to hold onto him, it was just the way they handled the situation. I went to quite a few shows and helped with their dogs and setup, minding the dogs etc. I met mum, dad and my puppy, signed forms etc. named him and was waiting for the exciting day to arrive where I could pick him up. Never happened. Apparently all that counted for nothing and the only response I got from them over the phone to me being absolutely gutted by this was "Don't cry" and "You didnt lose money." Like THAT was the point! Anyway I originally started to reply because people are mentioning horse show backgrounds, I have a cat showing background. I know it is quite different, but I can sympathise with the long hours and preparation required to keep an animal in (winning) show condition. It's really a longterm commitment and you have to love your pet for your pet first and foremost, because as others have said there will be days they will test your patience no end. I think one day I might like to try showing if I found a supportive breeder, but for now I am happy with my lovely rescue ball of fluff.

Hi *kirty* Truly, I am sorry for your loss. I don't know if you would be interested, but I found some consolation at this siteHERE when I lost a beloved pet a couple of years ago. Yes, it will more than likely make you cry. I know it made me cry. But it will also make you laugh and smile as it walks you along the path of the fond memories and maybe, just maybe, it might make coping at this excruciating time just a tiny bit easier. Be kind to yourself :) Very best wishes to you Snippy

Crikeys! Thanks dancinbcs! I appreciate you doing that for me :) Great news that the BC breeder was tracked down so fast :) Awesome Powerlegs! Thankyou for your helpful info on the chips. I will definitely be looking at that. As I said initially, I was able to identify (via CAR) that However despite my contacting them two weeks ago, I have received no response. My thoughts were that if I contacted them BEFORE the change of details were applied, then I might be in with a chance. I would think that by now, the details would be updated to mine. I don't know if chips have a memory? Do they keep the old information on file in archive or is it a case of once details are updated, all history is lost? Perhaps someone out there knows... I will certainly let the DOL community know the outcome of my search. Odds are it will be because of all the help from DOL-ers that I will find out :) I really cannot emphasise how much I appreciate the help I am being given with this! BC Crazy... You flatterer, you. He has gone all sheepish now I told him that :D Once he is groomed properly and fit to be seen this place will be snowing Samoyed pictures, hehe! A BIG THANKYOU TO EVERYONE!!! -

See, THAT is what I want. I want to know what his history is. I want to know what his pedigree name is (assuming he has one). I want to see if his parents are still around (Canine Parents). I am an avid scrapbooker in my spare time and I simply adore doing projects that are to do with my pets. The ones I have done for my now retired show cats are some of my best work. It's nice because when you reach the point in life where you have to let a beloved pet go, you have all these treasured memories beautifully laid out in front of you. It is terribly sentimental, I know, but that's how I am. I would adore to see puppy photos too, if they have any. I also want to know from a health point of view, ie. if they have found some of their lines have been more prone to certain conditions than others. Obviously, you would hope that whoever they are, they have done the right thing and gone for healthy lines for breeding in the first place, but...(enough said). I am in the process of writing a letter to Dogs Vic to see if they are able to assist me. I do have his microchip number at hand and an estimated birthdate, so hopefully that is enough. I'm really happy that Fred has worthy owners now :) It really warms the heart! -

Thankyou very much all of you. Airedailer, one of those dates is a day off the date I was given. Very helpful, thankyou so much. -
As a few of you would know by now, I recently adopted a Samoyed from a shelter. The thing is, I have no idea about his heritage and I would really like to know a bit more... Also I know that if I had raised a puppy and sold him to someone in good faith, I would want to know his whereabouts and that he was safe, secure and loved. In fact, I KNOW I would rather the dog was sent back to me rather than sent to a shelter. I have contacted a few organisations, but with no success thus far. Unfortunately, despite my explicit explanations, several seemed to think I was trying to re home him, rather than to find out his place of origin and the others were unable to help me due to privacy laws. I know that he was from a breeder from Victoria and that he was born in early Feb 2013. He is a Male Samoyed. He is desexed (but obviously I am unable to ascertain whether this was done prior to leaving the breeder or afterwards. What I was able to ascertain is he was microchipped in Victoria in March 2013. I would suggest this would have been by the breeder given that he would have been a maximum of 8wks old. He was surrendered to a shelter in South Australia, so that might also be a help to anyone who may have sent a puppy interstate. If anyone has any ideas who the breeder may be or where I may be able to find out, please, please get in touch with me. If you don't want to answer publicly then PLEASE PM me. I would really love to have contact with his breeder, if for no other reason than to show them what a handsome fellow he is now! Thankyou in advance Snippy

Hi poochiemama It is amazing the power of a place like DOL forums. It really is. I am only new to the forum, but already I have read so much advice and opinions on here that I can heartily agree with. The collective wealth of information and support here is truly amazing. I too struggle sometimes when I think about the horrific situations that poor defenceless animals find themselves in. There are horrid people out there and there is no denying that, and there are situations that NEED to be changed and/or legislated against. I am a complete bleeding heart when it comes to animals... I too feel a very personal hurt when I see or read about some of the things that go on. The way I cope with it is simple though. I have six pets (3 rescues) and I do my darnedest to make sure they all have the best quality of life and happiest time they can. Sure they are only six pets out of a world of animals, but I am making a difference to their lives. If I show others responsible pet ownership, then I think in my own small way, I am doing something for the betterment of other animals (hopefully when my vet nurse study is completed I can have a greater impact). Also, I choose free range products when I can and I sign petitions daily to add my voice to the others of us who want change for the better. I also support animal welfare agencies as best I can. Like many others have said prior to me, bad stuff does happen and that's not to be ignored, but if we all treat the animals WE come in to contact with with respect then I think that that counts for a lot.
