  1. Yep, I talk to my dogs constantly about anything and everything ... I talk to my horse too :)
  2. We normally take our two toy poodles with us by finding dog friendly accomodation or staying with family/friends. Our larger Schnauzer has to go to the kennel. You may find a kennel close to wherever you are going for the weekend instead of trying to find one near home? :) We've also had house sitters for longer periods which worked out extremely well.
  3. I did double knots :)
  4. Awww ... That's beautiful! Happy Birthday Renae! The grand matriarch!
  5. Instead of hijacking Whiskeys Mum's topic, I thought this could be a thread of its own. Little Gifts posted this link about making your own non sew dog beds ... www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=236744.0 So, I made one this afternoon from an polar fleece blanket and a spare pillow ... Well, OH doesn't really need a pillow does he? Here's the result ... But there's always room for one more ... I notice I'll have to tie a couple of the ties more securely judging by the last pic
  6. Little Gifts that's a fantastic dog bed idea! I made one this afternoon from an old polar fleece blanket and the contents of a spare pillow :) I Intended it for my Schnauzer, however one of my poodles found it first. After several turns and squishes she was set! :) I made mine rectangular instead of round. Thanks for the idea - I'll make a couple more now I know how easy and quick it is.
  7. Gosh, I wouldn't even scatter schmackos on the ground with my own dogs! Glad your dog is alright :)
  8. Yep, a similar thing happened to me in Brisbane while walking our dogs (on leads). A young boy of about 12 was walking a massive Rotti ... Should say the dog was walking him! Luckily, he was a strong 12 year old and maintained the dog and lead ... just
  9. Silentchild this is a great idea! Enjoying the stories :) I'll have to think about this for a while because there are many feel good moments when you own a dog aren't there?
  10. Welcome to visibility sarsaparilla! :) Good first post
  11. That is one gorgeous dog kirty! :)
  12. When we lived on the Northern Tablelands we had seriously cold winters (minus ten and eleven) and our blue cattle dogs all slept outside in kennels filled with hay. If I gave them blankets they dragged them out and slept on the open ground :) Our Labrador used to come inside at night and when we let her out she'd go and roll in the frost! Every winter I used to get her a large cardboard box and fill it with blankets on the verandah. She'd snore her way through the night very happily :)
  13. How awful for the poor dogs and you I wasn't aware of the dangers either. I truly hope the dogs recover and thanks for the warning.
  14. Wow! My mother used to take us swimming there when we were kids! Talk about ancient history. It was very popular in summer :)
  15. I do this evry morning with my very food motivated Standard Schnauzer puppy. It takes him about half an hour or more to find and eat a cup of kibble. It also helps to slow down the mad eating frenzy :)
  16. I had a rescue dog sent with Jetpets from Melbourne with a two hour 'comfort' stop in Sydney before a one and a half hour flight to local airport. The dog was severely dehydrated and took a few days to recover
