  1. Experienced reputable dog trainers know more about dog training than the average person. My Rottweiler and I had one on one training lessons with a brilliant trainer. I doubt my dog would have responded instantly to my commands had we not learned everything together. I wouldn't rely on Google to teach me this. We send our children to school to learn, so yes we do rely on strangers to teach our children. We don't rely on Google. Dog training has nothing to do with whether or not you're a dominant person. It's about knowing how to train and working with your dog. I don't know how to respond to your ^ bolded comment, words fail me. I wouldn't rely on Google either, if that's what you're implying however to see how others have done it if you don't have friends with Pits who else do you ask, hmm? It doesn't hurt to look up tips and tricks for those who've never worked with dogs in that way before. I was raised around Pits and Rotti's and Boxer's German Shepards etc I've seen how to train them and what ways work best. It's my opinion that I've gotten from personal experience so if words fail you then I'm sorry but it's not my fault. I don't use trainers no matter how reputable they might be because my dog's will learn from me and I'll work on commands until they get it right or until I do. Have you worked a lot with these kinds of dogs up close? And when I said specifically "a stranger raise your children" in no way did I mean school. There are a lot of things school can't or flat out won't teach - RAISE not EDUCATE. How does training a dog work if you're stammering and nervous and acting like you're afraid of it? Sorry for voicing my opinion but it's what I know and it's not let me down once. What leads you to believe that CavNrott was "stammering and nervous and acting like you're afraid of it?" Going to dog training is not about the trainer training the dog. Rather, it is about them teaching the owner how to best to teach/work with their dog. I'm more concerned about people who 'know it all' than those who seek some good-quality training help. Is everything I post going to be taken out of context or what? Before you go snapping at me re-read what I said. At no point did I even marginally imply I was describing CavNrott's training. It was a question. READ.
  2. My Aunt used to take in dogs and train them. She owned Woombah Kennel's in NSW i'm pretty sure it's called but yeah I mainly learned from her and I suppose it'd be very different to how dogs are trained these days considering i'm sure she was born in the 40's lol. As for anyone knowledgeable it's only my one aunt and 9 uncle's to choose from and if i can't get onto them or what i want I usually find what I need on Google even if it's a phone number but I rarely use it because most of it is carved into my brain now :) One of my mate's is a dog trainer too though, well, none of it ever helps unfortunately if you get my drift! lol. Not sure if dog trainer, human trainer or dog walker. I let her take my boy for a day and she came back exhausted, not the other way around.
  3. The problem on the Gold Coast is that only two types of people own small dogs and that's: 1; air-headed bimbos who parade their Chihuahua's around the dog par and then yell at people when the stupid thing starts barking and snapping at bigger dogs "Oh your monstrous dog is scaring mine! stop it! get away!" a girl actually said that to me whereas my dog was only looking at it with his unimpressed face :p (Winston secretly loves little dogs but is afraid of foxies and chihuahuas cause 90% of the time he meets them they bite him and he knows not to bite back although i know he wants to). I think it said "Bella" in diamantes (or however you spell it) on the little beasts bright pink jacket that matched it's mummy dearest; and 2 are old people who believe it does nothing wrong and that when it bites your ankles YOU must have done something to provoke it because schnookums wouldn't hurt a fly. You treat a dog like a spoiled brat and you get little dog syndrome meaning it's little and it think's it's big however they don't learn their lesson when the bigger dogs don't take very kindly to Beverly Hills Chihuahua coming into their park and acting like twits. That's the Gold Coast. Retirees and walking talking helium tanks. What's the point in walking a dog by carrying it under your arm? Lol.

  6. Amax-1? Just a new member in a particularly irritated mood after reading all the dog attacks articles. I'm so over people screaming Pit Bull when it's not even a fricken Pit Bull. The Redfern incident is a prime example! What's M-sass?
  7. I don't really believe in dog training school. If you're going to get a dog, research the type to suit you and your house, if unsure about how to train the dog you're getting, Google. I train all of my dogs and that's the way it should be. You wouldn't let some stranger raise your children their way instead of yours would you? Pits aren't the kinds of dogs you want someone else training; if you aren't a dominant person, don't get a power-breed and save the rest of us having to fight against the idiots who buy and neglect their dogs until they're restless enough to get dominant over you.
  8. People are breeding Cane Corso's and Tibetan bloody Mastiff's in Australia. You think an AB is exotic? My neighbours got a female. Her name's Honey and she's incredibly frightening if she finds you on the street alone - daytime or not. Not a fan of the old AB's too much muscle.
  9. I haven't seen anyone point this out yet so... The Queensland government has a 22 point identification with 22 descriptions of a Pit Bull and a rating system of 1 to 3 [ eg. point 4 is the dogs nose red? If it is you rate a 3 if not you rate a 1] so as far as they're concerned that's the way to tell if a dog is a Pit Bull or not. Moreover, the minimum score a dog should receive is a 22 to get it off the hook but a 23 sees it PTS. This 22 point system was used on a Chihuahua and it scored 50 therefore it met the description of an APBT. The dog that attacked the elderly woman in Toowoomba in 95' which was the spark behind this breed banning was reported to be a Pit Bull but it turned out to be unknown crossbreeds and like many other restricted breeds sold under a different breed name and in this case it was a Lab cross and i'll add in here, i'm not sure if anyone knows this but it's common practice to sell Pit Bulls as Lab x Staff because of this legislation. This pup Zeus, you can clearly see he's a Pit Bull - if you can't, then you have no leg to stand on arguing with people over Pit Bulls or any dog for that matter. There's no point in arguing, you don't get a say regardless of how poorly put together these laws are. If the dog had been looked after properly in the beginning (that includes making sure the fencing is secure so it can't get out) then this wouldn't have happened. The former owners made other people pay for their lack of proper ownership and although i'm glad he's free.
