Human Clippers Versus Dog Clippers?
gillbear replied to BT-Argo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poodle3081 - I'm having trouble sourcing a replacement drive cover for my AGC2 clippers. I prefer racine in colour but the black will do if that is all I can get. Can you help? BTW. I did a TAFE grooming course last year. The teacher was recommending Osters or Wahl and there were only osters for the students use. -
Back to topic. I'm sure you meant well and love this pup very much, but I dont think that it is the right pet for your family. I am reluctant to rehome pups especially to homes with ANY very small children. The simple truth is that young children and young dogs need SO much time and attention. Think about it seriously. Please dont feel that you need to do "the right thing" and struggle on. Sometimes things dont work out how we plan, and you just have to face the truth and realise that a mistake was made. Good Luck

What it proves is that THIS thread is about helping a family. Please prove or disprove your theories elsewhere.

Your getting some great advise here sunny. One thing I would like to add is that the pup really needs it own "quiet place". Somewhere that it can go and rest and not be disturbed by the children. Whether this is a crate, a kennel, or a bed it doesnt matter - the main thing is that everyone knows the dog is to be left alone when it is in this area.

I'm near Tuggerah. Ahh, the joys of puppy's. I would definately keep him more active during the day. He is only a bub though, so he will still need lots of sleep. Just like a baby, dont reward bad behaviour. If he cries during the night, take him out for toilet time and then put him back to bed. Dont respond to his crying, dont react or pay attention to him at all. Reward his good behaviour with praise and attention (not in the middle of the night). The lakehaven vets will do puppy preschool which I highly recommend, otherwise come along (minus puppy for the moment) for a chat to training at Pioneer Pk, Dampier Blvd Killarney Vale 7.00 Monday nights - lots of Dolers with good advise. Check out the Library and search this forum for puppy training tips. Where did you purchase your puppy?

where on the Central Coast are you from? What particular part of his training are you having trouble with?

There are certainly some nasty strains of Kc going around at the moment. I agree with another check at the vets. Nutrigel and other vitamin/ electrolyte substitutes like Recharge can also help with his recovery. Goodluck with a speedy recovery.

Rest easy Kal I am so sorry Erny ;) -
Wow, what a fantastic weekend. Gus and River are such wonderful boys. It was such a special thing to see them working. I am so in awe. Trust, dedication, respect, knowledge and loyalty. Every team member was so inspiring with a good dash of fun and laughter thrown in. Wonderfully informative and a great time too. Thankyou all so much. I hope you have a safe trip home, I just wish I could go to the Vic workshop too. Robyn

Sounds good Cin.

Anyone else for a DOL sleepover? We are tossing up between the pub (nice but cheap) or something a bit flasher. With the price of petrol staying over is a good option.

K9 Force Handlers Workshop
gillbear replied to MonElite's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Another excellent K9 force day. A wonderful bunch of people, some great dogs and the trainer was ok I suppose It was great to put some of the theory into action, and also to see Steve working his magic. It was amazing to see Steves alpha pressure demonstration taking a (before the day) untrained dog through a series of stay, sit and come excercises without touching him or a leash - Wonderful. If there was any room left, I certainly would have smuggled Gracie home with me too. Unfortunately Steve didnt jump out of the cake, but this was more than made up for by the 6 male streakers I drove past on the way home Disappointingly it was a cold night -
I Still Can't Decide When.......
gillbear replied to Joey Rocks My World's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I lost my wonderful Golden retriever this time last year to cancer, he was only 7. I asked myself everyday is it time? One day I looked into his eyes and knew the dog I loved was gone and the disease had taken over. He was happy and comfortable until then, but I knew it was time. Time to say goodbye before the pain hit - there was no hope of recovery and to let him go on was not fair. Hugs to you -
She is still a little fussy and talking to her breeder she has always been fussy right from a pup. But she is eating healthy volumes and trying new things slowly. She has been on Royal Canin for the past 4 weeks and I have to say although expensive it has turned her around and she loves it. The other dogs love it too and are always trying to steal it.

This is exactly what should happen. Better for the dog and maybe the lovely bill they will get will make them groom their dog a bit more in future.

and this was Yesterday, enjoying a play at the beach.

I was looking back at the photos of Buffy and I cant believe the change in her. This is how she came to me looking her worst.

They meet up with a bucket of water. Drop the whole trap in the bucket and come back later. Not nice to do but I have an aviary and live next to bushland so mice are a continual problem. You can buy the traps at stockfood suppliers and some petshops. Cost is around $10 - $20 depending on size.
-
If you have seen 2 you probably really have a least a dozen from the way they breed. I like to use the mesh wire traps that they crawl into and cant get out. Peanut butter is a great bait. If you catch one, leave it there for the next night and it will help all of the others to get caught as well. Good luck catching the little nasties.

Need Help With Very Finicky Girl
gillbear replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As my new avatar says I LOVE NUTRIGEL!!!! It is great for adding calories and vitamins to bulk up a thin or sick dog. Definately try the satinballs. My current foster came to me very underweight and barely eating at all. Isaviz's tip of using whiskas mixed into the dry food(puppy or active) got her eating again. I poured goats milk over her dry food and now after 3 weeks she is eating normally and back to a good weight. A bit of competition for the food worked as well. Early on I think she only really ate because she just didnt want the others to get it instead. Best of luck.
