  1. In Queensland you aren't supposed to microchip until a puppy is 8 weeks and you aren't to supply a puppy without a microchip. Maybe make a note to mention to them to chase up with their vet if the puppy has been chipped? I believe the 6-8 week period is where a puppy learns how to interact with other Dogs from their mother. A good puppy pre-school should definitely be on the agenda if the pup was taken that early.
  2. Out of curiosity. I have family looking at sending a Brachy to the Middle East. Has anyone here attached fans to crates for travel? Do the Airlines permit it and if so is it effective?
  3. I know a fair few Vegetarians who feed either kibble made with meat products or a Raw Feeding Model. They consider it ok for a Dog to eat Meat even though they won't as it is a natural function for the Dog while (most of them) are vegetarian for either cruelty reasons or because they believe we as humans should be herbivores. I agree that if you aren't willing to do what's best for your dog regardless of your personal beliefs and convictions, get an animal that has the same philosophy as you.
  4. The cost of importing a puppy from New Zealand isn't much more than the cost of flying one interstate. (At least to North Queensland). As long as you trust the Breeder and have done your research in terms of temperament and health you should be fine. I never met my current Dogs parents (even though they are in the same state as me) but I knew the lines and trusted the Breeder to make the right choices and I have never been happier with a dog. Touchwood he has no health problems down the line as he is still a puppy but I am more than happy with my choice of Breeder and the Pup he chose for me. Has the breeder sent Dogs from Nz to Aus before? If so they should be up to date with any extra guidelines etc.
  5. Out of curiosity what are the differences between the Lines? It's always nice to hear this kind of information with people who have had experiences with them and I've only ever met a few Brittanys, far too few to learn much about them.
  6. Sorry to be so late to the party. I'm not really too interested in Schutzhund, but I've had a few people mention their interest in it lately in Townsville. Have you set up a Facebook group or anything I can direct them to for more information or just so they can ask you a few questions? Is Indi going to be making any trips to Townsville in the next few months for any competitions? I missed him last time he was here and I've heard some awesome things about him from his breeder so would love to see him in person.
  7. Mine Is still fairly young so at the moment he's on 3 feeds. One in the morning when I get up (Uni and Work schedule means this is ever changing). A snack in the afternoon when either my partner or myself is home and a late night feed when either my partner or myself finish work. That way the gap between dinner and breakfast is fairly consistent. I was always taught not to feed Dogs in a set routine incase something happens and you are delayed it can cause them some distress (Not sure how accurate this is, I'm sure one of the more enlightened people on the forum will know the truth of it)
  8. Are you praising him for going outside at 3 am? If you don't want to try forcing him to hold it. Try making it the most boring occasion for him. Straight out - Cue word - Straight in - back to bed. It may help him get out of the habit if he's learnt he gets praise for performing the act at that time.
  9. Out of curiosity did the kid go through the front gate? Or did he jump the fence? I had a Dog who would react if somebody came over the (back) fence as somebody startled him that way when he was young but had no issue with them if they came through the actual gate. I can imagine if I was sleeping and something came flying over the fence and landed hard I would be startled. No excuse for the attack, but may explain the Dogs behaviour (considering the owners had kids and if this kid was actually looking for his brother the dogs more than likely knew him)

  11. Honestly I think a fair few of these "Animal Rights" Groups are causing more damage to Animal welfare than they are helping. I have never been a fan of a circus and personally refuse to go to any of them, but by running so gun ho without any real evidence to back It up and with what appears to be some dodgy dealings, not only have they ruined their own name, they have made it easier for circuses in the future to avoid law suits for similar matters. The money they have wasted on the lawsuit could have done a lot to educating the public on the rights of animals
  12. I had to google it. A Shih tzu X Bichon. What a stupid name
  13. I would be interested to know what the People who cut the Chewables in half are using as a method for storage. I know how bad the effects of humidity etc. Can be to an active ingredient once it has been tampered with. If you are looking to use a preventative and you choose to cut down from a larger dosage, even making the assumption that the chew is uniform in its composition, how are you keeping outside variables from degrading the actives? This is probably more relevant for me as I am in North Queensland which suffers from a plentiful supply of Mosquitos and some horrid humidity
  14. This! I've recently gotten my first Belgian and having to explain every time that it is not a German Shepherd is getting ridiculous. People only hear Shepherd. Doesn't help they do look fairly similar in their puppy stages and everybody seems to have grown up with a German Shepherd at some point.
  15. While the whole matter of breeding between the Coat varieties makes no sense to me in terms of regulation. I believe when the Puppy's are registered they are registered by the look of the coat as there is enough of a difference to distinguish between the varieties.
