I know! I assume the mother dog will be PTS once the puppies are weaned. How can people own such aggressive dogs then have the stupidity to breed them AND cross breed!
-
I just saw on the news a couples staffy was attacked and killed by a male bull Arab and female ridgeback and their other staffy was seriously injured. The 2 attacking dogs had just had puppies so it was a territorial attack I guess but apparently the neighborhood has been worried about them for some time. My heart goes out to the poor staffy and it's owners. His name was Joey :-( The bull Arab has been PTS

My Greyhounds Were Attacked Today :(
DaneLover233 replied to HazyWal's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG your poor babies, I'm so glad they escaped with their lives. I hope your injuries are healing well too. I can't believe the b**ch is trying to get out of paying the rest of the vet bills. She shouldn't be allowed to keep her dogs if she isn't financially stable, what if they got sick, how would she pay then. I sincerely hope you can get the money out of her, you shouldn't have to suffer the pain and stress as well as the financial beating -
Hahaha so adorable!

“neither Of My Dogs Killed A Shelter Dog”
DaneLover233 replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
So well written! I have a friend who "brags" that she's never paid for an animal, she's only ever taken in those in need that were going to get dumped at a shelter etc. She can't see both sides of the story. Some people just need to get off their high horse and see that there is nothing wrong with buying from ETHICAL breeders -
Funny Reaction To The "clicker"
DaneLover233 replied to DaneLover233's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's a good idea using a quieter one inside He's so funny, makes me laugh everyday with his silly antics or even when he's just being a lazy slob he curls up in the strangest positions  -
Funny Reaction To The "clicker"
DaneLover233 replied to DaneLover233's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's a good idea actually! I've done some research now into how to go about clicker training - I really just wanted to see his reaction...the other dogs didn't care one bit! -
So when puppy eventually comes home I want to take a week off work so I can settle him in as he will be outside with the boxer while we are at work. What is the best way to do this? All I can think of is go out for short periods (or even just hide in the house and spy on them at first) and extend the time I'm gone for??

Cute display pic! Yeah I saw those ones, I might purchase them instead, don't want to frighten the puppy. The boxer on the other hand such a dork -
So I order 2 clickers from ebay for hubby and I as we plan on getting a great dane pup in the coming months but I wanted to test them out on our boxer first. I figured I'd start with treats and clicks simulatneously - FUNNIEST REACTION EVER! He took his treat then reared up like a pony and pranced away then came running back, bum wiggling but looking aprehensively at the clicker...I'm literally giggling typing this - he's such a funny boy! Does anyone else have any funny reactions when using a clicker for the first time?
-
I hear you! I get swayed by the wiggle-bum cuteness I am going to stalk this thread as well. Soft spot for Danes. (Dogs and men) I have a soft spot for Vislas! I have a boxer and his butt is the wiggliest, so funny! And he has a docked tail so when he's in trouble you see it wiggling haha it's so funny

Not going off topic, we reckon Herbie has the spirit of two earlier dogs that were professional counter surfers. Problem is the flooring is ceramic tiles. Means broken glass if I have been careless. If it wasn't so naughty it would be adorable!
-
I also really want to try my hand at clicker training. I've never done it before but it seems really effective

I'd actually like to teach him to stay away from the kitchen anyway, possibly using the tape method like Honey the Great Dane got taught That was going to be my tip, watch all you can of Honey. :D Such a smart girl she was! I still follow her owners blog too

My friend has a 6 month old Dane pup who I see 1-2 times a week and each time she gets bigger & more beautiful. It amazes me how quick they grow! I've been watching old videos of honey the Great Dane trying to teach myself how to teach my Dane to have manners etc like honey
-
Haha oh yes I almost forgot about counter surfing!

Thanks guys! I think there's only one pup who's nose will be out of joint, but she's the eldest & is already queen bee (and only female other than myself in the house) so I dare say she'll assert her position pretty quickly & the other will follow suit! Puppy proofing here I come!

Hi all! So if all goes well (I find out early April if the matings have taken) my dream puppy (Great Dane) will be born next month Almost crying with joy right now - I have been wanting a Dane for at least 25 years (I am almost 31 for reference). So anyway, I haven't had a puppy in the house for so long I'm looking for general pointers on things to do and not to do that I may have forgotten about. I'm all good with the obvious things like how to deal with the first few nights at home and potty training etc Also, what is the best way to introduce him to my other dogs, we have 5 so they run as a well oiled machine/pack so I want the new pup to fit in asap. That's all I can think to ask for now :D

I was just going to suggest a kong or pigs ear or something - something to keep her mind stimulated! Sounds like you're doing a great job :)

Buyer Owes Money For Pup, Not Answering Calls.
DaneLover233 replied to Safffy's topic in General Dog Discussion
This couple have a young daughter and both work and have vehicles of their own. The issue isn't that they can't pay, its that they don't want to pay. Most people who owe money fill you in when they will pay you back, I lend money to my dad and brothers all the time and friends with no such issues. There has been zero communication from them 3 weeks from getting the pup when they told me a week and they will fix me up. I was concerned about them as buyers but being acquaintances and the fact I had 7 puppies at the time, I thought I will help them out and let them pay off remainder. 1500 is a lot of money but it weeds out the unscrupulous owners who can't afford it. I paid 2500 plus airfare to SA for my boy. You need to pay for quality. There was only 2 boys in the litter and they got the best one. All pups have been sold bar 1 to exceptional buyers apart from these guys. Anyway gotta get ready for a funeral, will be back later today. Again thanks for all the replies everyone, this forum is full of good people willing to help. Def one of the better aussie forums I have been a member of. It's so crappy bc you did a nice thing and this is what you get in return! I hope you get the rest of what's owed to you -

Aww it's never easy, this makes me sad just reading it as mine are getting on in age also. Maybe try and do something special with her, like take her out just the 2 of you (or family included) so you have one extra special day before the time comes.

We have 5: chihuahua, shihtzu, shihtzu mix, daxi cross staffy and a boxer. It can be a little hard at times (especially as we rent so come inspection day we have to ship 3 off to my parents) and moving forward I would never own as many. I think 2-3 is the perfect number but this also depends on which breeds, how much room you have and your lifestyle.
