By all accounts it's not good for long term use for humans or dogs. Plus there is this argument too: If you buy the 95% curcumin, you are buying an extract from turmeric. The body can’t utilise this much at once … in fact the companies know this and count on a small portion of it being absorbed. And then you must consider that curcumin when still in the whole food (turmeric) has other components that work alongside it when digested, to give you a better result. When your body prepares itself to take food, the brain sends the signal to the stomach to get ready to digest. You consume turmeric with oil, pepper and other food – you get maximum absorption and maximum health benefits. And the turmeric powder or paste can be tailored to suit your needs – taking little and often keeps it in your system – it’s also very beneficial to feed animals turmeric this way. If you take a pill with a glass of water, some gets absorbed and the rest is excreted through normal bodily functions – it’s convenient and it does help. One of the most attractive things about GP -for me- is absolutely the price.

I've found that despite the long shelf life on the packaging, it usually disintegrates into dust well before that date rolls around. Last week, I actually binned a half full bag that was good until next year but had turned into brown dust, even though it had been properly re-sealed and stored in a dry, dark place. And it's not as if I buy huge amounts and store it- I use it for training treats so only buy the 1kg bags. Oh, yes. I find Scottie wont eat it if its been opened lonfer than a few weeks. But what i neant was sealed it has a long shelf life.

I got the last lot from Parklea in western Sydney. Enough for 3 batches for Scottie & I to share. That and the celyon Cinnamon cost less than 10 bucks.

I'm addi g Tumeric ("Golden paste") to scotties meals & finding it ia no extra work. If you're interested in the benefits of tumeric id recommend G.P.

For Scottie - It's mild and I don't think his S.A. currently causes too much anguish. Certainly I feel bad when he is driven to destructive behavior wen I am not home but we're managing with a mix of exercise, enrichment and medication. On the other end of the scale I know a dog who had such an extreme case his owner medicated him - strongly from the age of 6 months through to 2.5 years - before re-homing him. The owner never made any serious attempts at training the dog or providing any enrichment beyond draging him into unsuitable environments - and having him minded/ in human company 24/7. Within 2 weeks of being in his new home he was weaned off all Valium and prosaic & on last report had settled in reasonably well. It was a horrible case to have to witness - because the dog really needed someone who was willing to invest more in him than getting script filled ever 6 weeks. Anyhow - I dont know if that answers the original question - just my observations of two very different examples.

I thank the gods above that Scottie is totally OK with a pill hidden in a mince ball. Guin, my girl before Scott, was terrible - to the point where we spent more to have some of her meds mixed at a compounding chemist so we could just squirt it down her trap twice a day "for the rest of her life". It was worth every penny.

For me: It's grain free and good quality - until Scottie went off it (he goes off all food on a pretty predicable rotation). We still use it as training treats, occasionally. It's cheaper per kilo than, say smackos. I am grateful that I have a small dog so I don't have to buy big bags :)
