  1. Nah - If you look at the Jolie thread you'll see he's had a summer clip. It appears he's also a great babysitter.
  2. My Mum used to (probably still does) say the same about the horses - she doesnt smoke, drink or gamble so whats the harm in spending it on the horses...
  3. Dear old love. Sorry for your loss Perse & gang. Extra cuddles for the babies today.
  4. We're fine until something rips - then it's a destuffing party. I should get the little man a holy moley.
  5. I made a commitment to Scottie that I'd do my best and care for him as well as I can. Plain and simple. I'm responsible for his safety, well being and overall happiness. Full stop. End of story. My priority is that he's always safe and well - which is why, as much as he says he hates it - he gets crated over night - I know he's safe, warm and dry and not getting into trouble. After his safety is his happiness and I work bloody hard on that one too. On the rare occasion that this topic comes up I usually shrug it off with something flippant. The last time was when we were discussing travelling for work - one of the rolls at my last job was travelling between 12 and 24 weeks a year. I'd said I'd have considered the role in the days before I got Scottie - but not now. My boss said "but what about {husband}?" to which my reply was "Well {husband} can operate a can opener, Scottie can't" ... I think non-pet people can't really understand what commitment you've made to a pet. I think pet people understand and just take it to varying levels. What ever suits you and your situation.
  6. Yeh, I think Gruf does OK. Plus he "self rewards" when he finds all those special toys on his walks. It's quite mysterious how many lost soft toys are to be discovered in his part of the world ;)
  7. Somehow I feel a bit sorry for your dogs, if they never get treats There is no way I would go to work if I only got praise & a pat from my boss for a job well done !! Scottie works for love. His 'jackpot' is a huge tummy rub or cuddle. He's just not driven by food. If He was younger and I was a better trainer he'd probably work for a game of tug - so cuddles are good enough.
  8. Not for food - but I do have to do it if we've gone to the park & we're having off leash time and I don't have a toy to play fetch with. We do it at the end of fetch too - it's the universal "party over" symbol.
  9. I can find out if you like? I personally haven't fed quail but it's good for fussy eaters and those that need a higher fat content. Thanks for the offer - i went in today - just stuck to the plain out chicken mince. Might ask next time but - he gobbled his dinner up tonight so that's good. I'll be away for some of next week but when I'm back I'll & I'm doing my next lot of meal prep add my own veg to it.
  10. Dumb question alert: Anyone know what vegies they add to the mince & if theyre cooked? Also ... why would one feed quail mince? Anyone here do it? Whats it like?
  11. You could start here: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/puppies/british-bulldog.asp Also - try picking up the phone ;)
  12. Sorry if I've missed this one - but it's been doing the rounds on my facebook. Lovely feel good story. Actually made me think of Westiemum's Mac-Mobile. http://www.9news.com.au/world/2015/09/24/08/06/man-builds-homemade-train-to-take-rescue-dogs-on-adventures
  13. What a beautiful face. Hugs to you at this horrible time.
  14. I just clicked that link - jeepers that's a good price.
  15. I have one from petbarn - It's totally OK. I would recommend it. My only complaint is that when I went looking for a cover I discovered that crates are all slightly different sizes. Which meant I couldnt get the cover I really wanted....
  16. Pick. Up. Your. Dogs. Crap! Bin it. Bags AND bins are usually supplied. The end.
  17. Scottie enjoys peeing on my Dads organges. Much to Dad's disgust. ;)
  18. Hi All, Just a heads up that there is an upcoming ORT and Nosework Trial planned for October and November in Castle Hill (Sydney). The ORTs are planned for October 11th & 18th. You'd have to pass the ORT to participate in the Trial. Trial is planned for Nov 14th To participate in both you need to be a member of the ACSW. However the ORT and Trials are open to anyone who wants to participate - not just their own students. Any info best to contact K9 Nose time. [email protected] Please note: I'm a student but in no other way associated with the organisation. Just sharing the info.
  19. yep all those years ago july 2005 when my beloved Jake and The Divine Miss Sophie took their Bridge journey a mere 6 days apart..the silence was deafening. I could not sleep for the quiet.. You never get over but with time you get through.. and when you are a dog person.. it happens allover again. This year Dennys Dog... departed for those great tratturi of the skies... the memories bring both tears and smiles forever H I don't think I'll ever forget the quiet as I let myself into my Aunts house for the first time after her dear old Jess went. She had a full length hall with floorboards which was thundered up and down a when you came home.
