Dogs V Dog Beds V Dog Mats, Blankets, Towels And Toppers
Scottsmum replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I refuse to count. um... 1 crate 1 soft sided bed too many, far too many blankies, toppers.... jackets - oh my god jackets - 4 or 5 min... FOR ONE DOG... -
Being warmish today we let him into the garage today, which has a remote door - with a very sensitive remote. About 2pm we were off to the shops for a few things when I realised the door was open. I grabbed my parents, they each got in a car while I started off up the street on foot - calling his name as loudly as I can and stopping at every house with a person out the front asking to return him to our place if sighted or caught. One old couple said they thought they'd seen him about an hour earlier!!! By that stage my step-mum was checking the park we frequent, I was about house away speaking to a man when dad came up the street and beeped his horn - I looked up and here comes Scottie galloping down the street, tongue out, tail going a million miles an hour. I carried him home, he walked himself up the stairs, had a huge drink and put himself to bed for the rest of the day! Totally knackered - He even ate dinner in bed LOL. I think I aged about 70 years in 15 minutes! He gets picked up tomorrow by the pet transport company before we fly together on Wednesday morning. All I could think was what the f happens if he cant fly on wednesday! I can't even begin to say how happy I was to see him! Makes me appreciate our one of our previous, uh, rather beautiful but very dumb dogs who'd escape (jump a 7 foot fence) then come round the front to knock on the door!

Great post :) Thank you - and yeh - I agree - I don't think I could cope sticking my hand into a pouch full of raw food. Maybe hard core raw feeders don't treat? Maybe they only click (I'm only being half serious here by the way).

Your Dog Ate Weed: Plea From Veterinarians
Scottsmum replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL. I never (knowingly) had a weed case when I nursed, but I always loved the "oh I have no idea ... How long / what he ate / etc" lines clients tried on the vet. -
What a huge achievement! Hsppy birthday old girl!

I so badly want one for Scottie. I might order one when I'm home next and take it back with me.
-
Scottie is quite the fan too - but only in batons, not in discs.

I suppose "fridge drying" doesn't denature the protein? I'd like to see some literature on smoking Vs Dehydrating Vs "fridge drying" - Which I suppose could have a human equivalent as salting? I'm (well Scottie) isn't full raw... but I'm trying to integrate more and not be so squeamish. He's doing well on what I have him on so ... that's all that really matters right now but I am trying to learn as much as I can... but some of the raw groups are pretty full on - I had to leave one.

Hey, I read this comment online in a raw feeding group earlier today: My very first thought was "F that's got to be unhygienic" Am I over reacting or is that really gross? I can't imagine having that in my fridge or handling it and I don't think it would be too great for the dog either - but I am a realist and I know they eat way grosser things... I wouldnt like it in my treat pouch either...

All the time.

Just saw on facebook that the RSPCA will be charging FDDC with a number of items relating to Wags, Fansu (a dog who was missing for about 30 days over xmas and an animal known as Gabe - who I know nothing about. From what I can see; Aggravated cruelty upon an animal (Wags) Fail to exercise reasonable care (wags) proprietor of animal trade not comply (wags x 2) Animal known as "Gabe" x 1, Fansu x 1

God - how do you do daily. I can hardly remember to brush my teeth every day - let alone HW the dog.

I worm with a quarterly worming tablet. Usually with something like this: http://www.petdirect.com.au/worming/1288-paratak-plus-allwormer-bulk-pack-10-tabs.html (aka: Anything with Praziquantel in it) My flea routine is to bomb the house when ever we all go away for the weekend and to wash all bedding in very hot water with lavender in it every 2-4 weeks but on the actual dog - I only flea when I need to. Then I just buy what ever is cheap / on sale / is recommended at the time - you'll find sales people or the vet / nurse will often say "oh we're finding X isn't working as well as Y this year" and I usually take that advice. At the moment I have a packet of Advantix as my vet recommended it and we were going to a tick area - so I needed tick coverage. That said, I'm spoiled. With one small dog I just buy individual tablets or small packs as required. The packet of wormer above would last me about 25 years with my current dog....

Ah. This bought a tear to my eyes. All my love. This week will be one of the hardest ever.
-
Update: Mr Man had a vet check with a different vet this week (for export) and she was worries about his eye (it was a bit blood shot). So I packed him off to my normal vet today for one last visit with her. He had a full check up, bloods etc. He's 100% in perfectly good health. All bloods back in normal range - so that's great, nothing abnormal to report on the eye or ears (both of which the export vet was overly interested in). So he's in good health and cleared for flying in a few weeks!
