  1. I'm loving it compared to Sydney Snook! It's doing my heart and my head good. That's for sure.
  2. 'hm, I thought the name refers to the German word for moustache which is 'Schnurbart' or 'Schnauzbart' or 'Schnauzer' because of the dog's distinctively bearded snout?... That is probably why "schnauzer" was called "Schnauzer", he had one!! Makes sense to me LOL
  3. That's the Manawatu river, just as you come into Palmerston North. Looking back towards the Te Apiti wind farm.
  4. I have no editing software beyond what's free on the net :) flickr editing options seem ok. Long time since i used photobucjet but i assume they have some basic options & there'd be apps up the wahoo for an ipad ... surely?
  5. It's celyon cinnamon - not normal cinnamon for the smell. As for adverse reactions and results - humans report detoxing - assume dogs might too. Certainly on facebook some people report feeling better instantly. Others report not notcing any difference. I take it (I have a a really bad back, neck, feet and and knees). I'm lucky in that I rarely ache but i do get a sore neck and my feet flair up occasionally. When I started taking it I didn't think it was doing much for me but I found when I ran out and didn't make a new batch I ached a lot until I got back onto it - knees and feet mainly. So I take it because it doesnt do me any harm, and I think it helps, and I assume the same for Scottie and it's cheap to make - which is why I was drawn to it to start with - for all the joint supplements out there is the cheapest by far (IMO). But I do think you really need to give it a good month before you make a call.
  6. Gutsy  Yeh - I'd half considered popping in and giving some elaborate story about how the cocker-poo name came to be but thought better of it ;) Leah is a braver soul than I.
  7. Yes Cat. You'll be seeing more of them this year - you can go right up to the farm and they're very close to the place we're going for obedience so I'll try to remember to take the camera to class this weekend.
  8. 2/52 Feeling a little uninspired today. Naughty dog (sep anxiety) issues, day 2 with no sugar, other things. Anyhow. Here's a bridge. : Edit: location Manawatu river, Palmerston North. keeper2 by Superspanger, on Flickr
  9. My previous vet wouldn't treat without the owner being sure the dog had been tested - if there was an ounce of doubt she'd recommend testing. But I think she was one in a million. Has the treating vet confirmed it's heartworm?
  10. Have been to the library. They don't have the book mentioned above in (at all. Maybe I should request it.) But I got a few others including two others by Peterson - so I'm well stocked up on reading material.

Same here. Must be a dog hair.
  12. Ill chat with a vet. All too much to process. I assumed it was just like home!
  13. oh. wow. Gapvic - that's just too cute. She's adorable.
  14. Really? Wow. & thank you! I know it's my responsibility to research this stuff - but this is the kind of info which would have been amazing to receive from the pet transport people too. It's funny on the surface NZ and home seem very similar and there are some very obvious differences - but there are some more subtle differences too. ... So he last had a c5 just on 12 months ago - maybe I don't need to have him vaccinated soon either... Everything's coming up Scottsmum...
  15. Seriously. Scottie and I went back to "dog school" (obedience) today. I've talked here before about how hard it is to find a good casual class for pets - not puppy school, not hard core competition obedience - just casual manners and some mental stimulation. So I put the feelers out almost immediately when we got to NZ and finally found one who offers one on one classes, puppy school and a few other things. We chatted and agreed that her publicly offered classes weren't quite right for us - so she said I could come along and try group class for reactive dogs - on the understanding that they were all dog reactive. Woah. It was great. It's just what I was looking for but holy shiz. There were 6 others plus us in the class - one in a muzzle, all in haltis and other forms of restraint beyond flat collars and one so reactive it doesn't actually join the class - it just lurks on the edge of the arena. Hubby came with me today and sat in the car and he commented that it was really full on even from the other side of the car park. (Obviously this is an over simplified view of the whole situation and all these dogs have "graduated" to being able to work in a reasonable proximity to other dogs - no one but the trainer went closer than 10 meters to another dog/handler combo). My overwhelming thoughts were a mix of I'm embarrassed scottie is being so good - they must wonder why I'm here, good on these guys for being proactive, it must be f'ing hard work to live with dogs like this! Lots of F this must be hard bloody work all. the. time. I'm not trying to brag about scottie - he has his bad moments and he's far from a poster boy for manners - he has a touch of the little dog syndrome and naughtyness at times - which I don't encourage - but never having owned a reactive dog I had just no idea. Anyhow - to the owners of DA dogs - I tip my hat to you!
  16. Thanks guys - glad I'm not too rambly - I usually try to edit myself but I'm in holiday mode. Think I'll have a look at that book too - will see if I can get it from the library :)
17. Others will be able to give better answers - I look forward to seeing them! but ... Regarding learning material - I am going to do this: The Art of Photography https://www.open2stu...-of-photography It's free, Snook has done it - should be able to give a review on it. Next class kicks off on the 11th and goes for 4 weeks. Re uploading: Brace yourself - this is bare bones basic - but how I understand it. You put your photos on flickr, photobucket, google drive (there are others) so they're "on the internet" (don't laugh). That's it - Flickr et al are hosts. By uploading to a host site Troy/DOL doesnt have to host (take up space) huge image files attached to the board. Of course other positives mean you can share the links other places - like facebook and blogs should you choose -as you're pointing people back to flickr to see the image - not DOL. Negatives could include loss of privacy and rights - but that's another can of worms. You will find that you can't upload a nice "big" image straight from your computer to DOL. (By big I mean file size not x cm by x cm). I find that even the images I take on my phone are too large to attach to the board. To change the size of what you post (again - sure there are other ways - I'm new to this too) you can select the size when picking the link from Flickr. See below: Once you've uploaded the photo to flickr, go to the album, select the image you want to share ( assume you know how to do this - ask if you dont - but I figured it out - so you should be able to do it too) Image 1 gives you 'sharing options' (where you want to share it to) - I picked BBcode for bulletin board. Image 2 lets you pick a size from a drop down - you'll start to learn what looks good - I picked a few until I had a size where I could see all of my own photo on my screen without scrolling (I use a laptop). Just as a final note - the image above is an attachment - it's hosted by DOL and there are size limits to the file and as you can see it shows differently to the photos. The size of the file sitting on my computer is 91 kb (the upload limit is 300kb). The size of my bumble bee photo is 4.3 mb - I'd have a snowballs hope in hell of attaching it straight from the computer. A photo straight from my phone is about 2.8mb and even compressed they're about 1mb. Sometimes (actually - all the times if I'm being brutally honest) I would take a photo, open it up on my computer, screen shot it and save it to paint to "compress" it enough to be uploaded here as an attachment. I have only just figured this vital hosting step since joining this thread! This is great for me - not so great for the rest of DOL as you're all about to be "Scottie Spammed" up the wahooo... ;) Hope that helps - I know it's rambly - but that's how I understand it. Welcome to my mind. (edit: a few typos)
  18. Just a tip for air bnb - when we flew into Wellington it was looking like we'd (Scottie and I) weren't going to to be picked up for a few reasons out of anyones control. I couldn't find a place which stated it was pet friendly so I started emailing / contacting places which said they had a pet on the property & explained my situation (landing late & clearing customs with him, older dog, international flight, long car trip in front of us, quiet, house broken, just want somewhere close to Wellington where we can have a walk and get a good nights sleep before the next stage...yadda yadda). I found a place within 2 emails (one owner wasnt going to be home) which was OK to let us stay on the condition he was on lead and not allowed in the bed. Might be worth a shot - an honest sob story can't hurt :)
  19. Me too! I needed to figure out flickr - even though I had (it turns out) an account set up yonks ago. Then I needed to figure out how to post nice big photos - I've always added tiny little compressed attachments - I asked, then figured it out so edited my post. and I have a daggy older-ish camera. Also - love the photo. Looks like a really lovely spot to sit and relax.
  20. So... Just an update: As a few posts have said - No heartworm/ing required for us - which is great. The Jury is out on on how to pronounce titre - looks like both are acceptable. I'm still undecided on the club / vet thing. Need more time - which I have as he doesn't need to be heartwormed in a matter of days now. As for the titre testing - I called one vet they said no, I called another they said they'd have to call me back, then I popped into the uni clinic and they also said they'd need to get back to me. They got back to me today and said: They can only do Parvo and Distemper tests - they cant test for Hep or the other commonly vaccinated diseases. It would have to be sent away (even though we have a vet pathology lab in town) It would cost me $160 for the two tests + the consult So I'm undecided on the titre test - I don't have a strong opinion on it - I just thought I'd try it out now were here & settled but it's looking a bit too complicated. Maybe I'll just have his jabs done.
  21. Like all of us Neko over indulged over chrissy? Seriously though, how exciting!
  22. Yep - know that now. Thanks :) Also - yay! One less drug for Scottie and one less expense for us!
  23. Snook - I signed up to the MOOC you did through open to study The Art of Photography https://www.open2stu...-of-photography
  24. On my mums working property - the working (sheep) dogs are in an enclosure with 8 foot fences and a padlocked gate. The bottom is secure with an "L" of wire on the bottom - so if they're standing at the fence trying to dig they can't get out. The boys have hunting dogs too - when they're living at home (the boys that is) - the dogs are in runs, with a human or at work with the boys.
