Happy birthday Donny

Quick update. Worried about "jinxing" things - but we're now on day 4/15 & all seems to be going ok. No noise complaints from anyone and more importantly - no signs of an unhappy pup. He seems happy enough, chilled and happy when I get home. Not clingy and has only trashed his crate once - which isn't too bad. Hubby has been coming home at 12pm - eating lunch in back yard & playing fetch at the same time. He's then home between 4.30 and 5.00pm & they play fetch again for a short while before hubby comes to pick me up. Scottie is walked between 6.00am and 6.30am for 1 to 2kms - depending on who walks him and how many times they've hit snooze. He's crated between 7.10am and lunch and again from 12.50ish until hubby gets home. Scottie is left out free range of the house and yard while hubby picks me up from where I'm doing placement. Scottie and I are having walks and cuddles in the evening - similar distances to AM walks as I am completely zonked - that's a professional term for utterly exhausted. After walks I'm crashing on the couch with Scottie and watching mindless TV while also bushing him most evenings. Scottie seems happy enough - or as happy as usual to be locked in his crate in the mornings. He's being left with a full bowl of water and his AM supply of kibble + a toy. He's getting a bully stick at lunch time as a bit of a bribe - I'm not finding them in the crate so can only assume they're being eaten. It's possible they're being buried in the yard during his time unsupervised - who knows - who cares - they're his treats to do with what he will - so long as I don't find them in my bed. We were leaving an audio book on - but the app has crashed on my laptop and I can't fix it - so hubby has been finding random long play youtube videos to listen to. This afternoon it was "three ways to destroy the universe" (*Shakes head*)He's on a full dose of Endep - 20mg AM and PM. & that's about it. Not sure what our long term options will hold. If get one or two days a week this is a sustainable option - especially coming into winter - I would not leave him out in an NZ winter and he can't *really* be in the house unsupervised. Obviously this wouldn't work so well 5 days a week all the time. Not sure what weeks 2 and 3 will bring - but it's been an unexpected and much more pleasant start.

Looking cheeky!

Lovey photos!

Thought same thing. Molly has legs like elle McPherson

Some good advice above. I'd also be asking the vet if they would write you a script to get the medication cheaper or to call a few vets and get prices - when my dog started on his anxiety medication I was paying appox 90c a tablet - I swapped vets (I moved) and started paying 50c a tablet. I recently moved (again) and now I'm paying 0.16c a tablet.

Yep. Sadly - they're pest. http://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/pests-and-threats/animal-pests/animal-pests-a-z/hedgehogs/

Thanks - I know it's huge - I used to have a pretty good understanding of horse (paint horse) genetics - but know nothing about dogs. Also: Does this have colour have a name? IMG_3467 by Superspanger, on Flickr

Superb, why was I expecting an echidna? I hope "(live)" doesn't mean you see not-alive ones. We're always rescuing echidnas from the middle of the road here before the next farm truck comes along. Gapvic your shot so reminds me of the scene in Babe, with the trio of mice singing "Blue Moon". Yep - sadly - lots and lots of roadkill.

Hey all, So I've been reading along on Kirislin / Neko's pups and if they're black /seal / something else - and um, I Just see back pups. Very confused. Also Scottie is black and white or probably technically tri-coloured. But, unlike my last B&W foxie who actually had black hair - Scottie has white hair on white skin which is tipped black. Who can link me to really basic reading on why? Or even what black tipped white hair is called. I'm talking Zoolander levels of simple.

I saw my first (live) hedgehog tonight. We passed him on our way out and Scottie wasn't really into his walk so we went home, grabbed the camera and I headed back to grab some shots. I was so excited. They have quite long legs for such little dudes & this guy was on a mission - scabbing bugs and stuff on the lawn of the empty house across the street. Totally adorable IMG_3463 by Superspanger, on Flickr

Lovely Snook! I just had a very exciting experience (well for me). It makes 8/52 and I'm so excited I might have to post it before Monday :)

What Would You Put In A Pet Supplies Shop?
Scottsmum replied to Sagittarian's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was thinking about this driving home from dog training today - I reckon you could fit 2 or 3 dog treadmills in a "large bedroom" space. Kinda like a dog gym. Great for wet winter. If you've got good air con it would work well on hot days too. -

Sounds ideal. For me I go back to specialty pet shops for hard to find items (such as ziwi), good prices and great customer service. Sounds like you've got that pretty well covered. Doesn't sound like it's really ideal for doggy day care - sounds too small. Does sound like it might be big enough for a class room / training area. What about setting up a cat space with high end cat products? Or I like Silent Childs idea of dog sports space? Maybe you could do a customer survey and ask them ? DO you have a mailing list? Random answer / "best answer" wins a few bucks store credit? -

How much space is a "little extra" space? What do you already stock? What competition do to have? Do you only do cats & dog stuff? Could you up the range? I've always thought if I had enough (*ahem* unlimited) capital to run my own space I'd have a freezer space available for Raw and an undercover / indoor training area for crappy weather. I don't think I'd bother with a cafe - too many potential hygiene. Could you dedicate the area to classes or "seminars" - as someone said above - reps or stalls? Rotating special features? One theme per month eg conditioning, fleas, arthritis? Maybe scales if no one in town has scales? We have a great little independent here in town, they have grooming AND DIY - which is how I found them. Lots of high end food, treats, beds, topys like slow feeders. To be honest - the biggest reason I go there (over 1 other small chain, pet barn and a number of feed shops) is bloody good service and freebies most times I go in. -

Oh - maybe it's that dreaded thing where you accidentally click twice and it double posts. I didn't look at the date stamp - I just assumed Sean had come back and posted a new thread. :)
