Phew. That's complex. Can someone please remind us when we need to go back and vote again ;)

Mooshi is a cutie. Loves a scratch. Jager is also a love bug too - honestly. & I was about even with the Lion - she was max 5 meters.

Sorry for the theme. It's basically my life at the moment. 24: Jager 24_Jager by Superspanger, on Flickr 25: Mooshi 25_Mooshi by Superspanger, on Flickr There's something about that photo of Mooshi that I really like and I can't pin point it. I think she just looks so regal.

I've voted - you're only 3 votes off first at the moment...

I second this - I've not been but follow them on facebook. Lived down that way as a kid too - stunning area. Plus it must be good to bring a lurker out ;) https://www.facebook.com/ElmCottageTumut/?fref=ts Alternatively you could try Air BnB

We are lucky. She's also had more than a few coffees with me over the months - when I had no one else to have coffee with We were very lucky to find her.

Ha ha JayGee - Nah - I'm out of shot telling him to stay. And yes - I think Meg is lovely. I wasn't entirely sure if she was chunky or not - I don't know much anything about Dobes. But as adorable as she is she's also a highly strung, goof ball who is now dog reactive after being attacked on the walking track about 18 months ago Her Mum really has her hands full with her. PS - She's super dainty :)

Pet Rescue Pound Dog Campaign
Scottsmum replied to Steve's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Willem's post has made me realise that another bonus of going via foster is that you often don't see a dogs real personality in a pound / shelter setting. No knock on SDCH - but they hadn't picked up on Scotties intolerance to grain -where as if he'd lived in a foster home for a few weeks I'd say it would have been picked up for sure - took us about a month to cotton on to it. -
Pet Rescue Pound Dog Campaign
Scottsmum replied to Steve's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sydney cats and dogs home is technically a pound - we adopted Scottie straight from them - that said they also foster and rehabilitate a bit more than your average pound. I'd consider myself a more educated owner - and in that case - I think it doesn't make any difference. I know what I want, I know what the risks are and if I walk in looking for a foxie but walk out with ... a type of dog I've never owned ... I either know what I'm in for or where to get help when I need it. For a newbie owner there is a lot more risk - and I think a good rescue works like an ethical breeder - there to help and advise - and maybe even re-direct. I met a potential new walking client the other day with a mastiff cross who's grown to over 40 kilos - she told me he was her first dog and they only wanted something about staffy size - she didn't know what she was buying when she picked him - she said it was only when someone told her paw size is a good indication of the size the dog will grow to be that she realised she'd bought a big dog.... -

Broadly speaking - it's against regulations to say money goes one place then it's used in another. I dont mean saying your "$5 will buy a magazine for someone to read during chemo" means tht $5 must be spent on a mag but it must be used for the "recreational supplies" line or what ever magazines would be written off.We used to come up against this a lot when I worked for MS Australia - as MSA used monies fundraised for people "living with MS" - this covered therapy, doctors, aide. We had one event where all monies raised went to scholarships for people with MS to use for education or a few other things. We often found people wanting us to use their money specifically for research - which was under the umbrella of MS Research Australia. In those cases we'd have to agree to a variation and give the money to MSRA.My point is - they'd *technically* be allowed to do what they're doing - otherwise they're at risk of losing their fundraising approval. Thanks for that explanation,it was just what I wanted to know. It must be technically OK to do this, as you say. I'd always thought it must be just giving an idea of values in using donated money. Like, I didn't really think my $50 would have to appear on the charity's accounts as buying an ante-natal kit, so I was glad to read your example about the $5 for the magazine. I'd only been guessing before... so it was good to hear how it applied to your work in an actual charity.BTW the equivalent of PetRescue in North America, is PetFinder. It started as a data base, too, back in the 1990s, then not for profit. But, as it grew, it became for profit & today is owned by Nestle Purina Petfood Company. I'm not suggesting that Australia's PetRescue should go the same way. It's just interesting. North America (US + Canada) has a much bigger population so I guess it would've looked attractive to big business. It's a really tough one. After MSA I worked for another not for profit which was really struggling and the thing is while they're NFP they do still have to cover overheads - expenses such as wages and rent. It's a very fine line between just covering your expenses and putting a little aside to pay for the next months rent. The second NFP I have mentioned above couldn't do this style fundraising because we were not set up properly - actually we were probably a bit like pet rescue in a lot of ways - not on the ground doing the work but in the background. -
So we go along to an "obedience class" which has kind of dwindeled into a small group who walk & do a few different things every week. Out instructor also doubles as a photographer and now that we're such a small group who's been together since the start of the year (and she knows the humans of the group can be trusted to not do dumb things) she's relaxed a bit and brings her camera along occasionally. So here was yesterdays game - hunting chicken in a box - oh and sitting in boxes. Bonus image: Our goofy friend Meg who I secretly want to steal. I love her so much.

Would it be worth your while taking a trailer into your largest centre and buying up big every 6 months or so? I'd say something with a stupidly long shelf life like Ziwipeak - but I can't imagine what that would cost to feed full time to one foxie, let alone 4 large dogs.

I took him to work in the doggy day care the other day. He was a bit of a creep.

You've not upset me (or anyone else I assume) - I love you thought to mention it - It's so important to share what you learn along the way. Years ago I fed one of our old boys a HUGE oily dehydrated tendon or something from the markets. less than hours later he was in hospital on a drip with pancreatitis. I'll never repeat the mistake and try to let others learn from it too - no point sitting on info. As for age.... Pick a number ;) We estimate 12.5 - but as an unchipped stray - who knows. and I can certainly oblige you with images...
-
Not an expert but we had two swiss at the vet I used to work for. Ears are wrong for me. No idea what else is in there :)
-
Good advice and I will absolutely mention it. We're there so often getting drug repeats and yadda yadda... they only do three repeats - my old vet did 6 months He's due a dental sooner rather than later - so we might discuss taking an x-ray on too.
-
or make the photo public on someting like flikr or facebook and share the link ;)

Ah PK - Just saw this  - not sure how I missed it! You're a gem. I wish we'd met before I'd moved - I'll be home in October at staying in Marrickville - we should aim for a coffee so I can meet Mal - I mean meet you

Yikes. WM now you have me worried. Re your list 1: Some panting but always resolved with a drink or removing a blanket. 2: Not that I've noticed 3: Some reduced exercise - but put down to arthritis / dodgy back 4: He's always had a cough - since I've had him - not persistent or annoying (to us at least) its not a hack or anything. Can't remember the last time I heard it - but we did have him checked when we first got him as the vet nurse I mentioned it to said a cough is often associated with heart disease in small dogs. 5: no change in his bark - don't hear it often but its as big and booming as ever. : never had any comments that his temp was elevated when we've visited the vets. How is it diagnosed it outside of emergency? By the way - the vivitonin seems to really work a charm when given exactly as it should be (on empty tum etc). The tantys also seem to have stopped with me ensuring he's given his meds - then walked and fed - I assume the walk gets his little body pumping and lets them kick in. We're also back to basically sleeping through full nights - except when he refuses to pee before bed (too cold) then (seriously and for reals) needs to pee a few hours later. The other night I was out like a light (7am starts will do that to ya) and he sat on my chest and groaned until I got up - well I woke up to him groaning.... he was out for ages.
