And I'll pop this one here to : Nosework for the fearful dog
-
This could go in lots of threads, so I thought I'd start a new one :D It's no secret that I am a super-dooper over the top fan of Nosework. This is just one of the reasons why. http://scentsabilitiesnw.com/blog/nosework-a-ray-of-hope-for.html Just a small part of the blog: N.B. Title updated - cause it's true ;)

This one's OK https://www.facebook.com/groups/CanineConditioning.BodyAwareness/ * I read walking spots as "walking sports" then found this link for you, then wondered what "walking sports" was - re-read your post but figured I'd link you anyhow :D

Serious bizness that.

Sorry PK - was that you offering to take him - then changing your mind Lol, I was worried about how my comment would come across. Love your boy. :) Ha ha ha.

Yeh - hole proof that one. Sorry PK - was that you offering to take him - then changing your mind yeh? What about the other eleventy billion times I moved him? :) He's lucky he didn't end up in the crate. Or with a smacked bottom. Or both. He he he - DDD - I had this image of you packing all the dogs away for the day - thinking its the secret to long lives - just box 'em up and store them for 12 of the 24 hours in a day :)

I met a flat coated retriever once - I asked quite timidly if it was one - you should have seen the beaming smile on the owners face when he said "Yes - I'm amazed you picked that"

I posted this on facebook this morning: Free to good home (or bad home. I don't care at the moment): One fox terrier who refuses to take "no" for an answer. 2016-07-18_08-37-18 by Superspanger, on Flickr Fair go - I was ready to kill the little shit. We usually have "conversations" about being on the bed while I'm trying to make it - today - even after being physically removed a number of times he did this - turned his back to me - if he can see me pointing "down" than he can't "hear" me - so doesn't have to do as he's asked right?

28: Luka. The highest jumper there ever was. Also my favourite day care boy. Funnily enough - often found himself at day care after busting out of the house yard ...hrm... 28. Luka by Superspanger, on Flickr

Excellent advice. Once a pooch knows it can escape its a battle of the wills (and often wallet) to keep the little beggars in. We've had foxies go under, rotties go over and everything in between. The day we got Scottie from the pound there was a chi who was climbing the chain mesh like a ladder - I took one look at Hubby and said "geeze - I wonder how he ended up here?"

Oh and ... I found an amazing facebook support group which is so nice to be a part of - even though we loose at least a dog a week. and he's started doing this funny thing where he takes shit outside... He's always taken his toys and occasionally his bowls, but now he takes his bowl after ever meal (plastic, metal or ceramic), blankets, I caught him in the office buggering off with a roll of sports tape the other day. It's hilarious and cute but a bit worrying too :)

So my dear old man had a tiny tumble yesterday - not so gracefully down the two front stairs - he landed on his feet but it was still a tumble. Then I stood on him while we were walking AND THEN he landed, again, not so gracefully on the concrete getting off a couch at doggy daycare. + he's been getting extra walks this week. All in all he pulled up stiff this morning and I've been really wanting to encourage him to sleep in his own bed at night. He's too heavy to sleep on me (but he does) and I don't like him jumping on and off the bed (but he wont use any steps I try to use). Hubby was a away for a few nights too - and Scottie moved to his side of the bed  and I realised how nice it was to sleep un-pinned. As a side note - we keep a "dog doona" on the bed - just an old double cover which catches most of the dog debris which is tracked in. With so much rain I needed a second to rotate as some weeks we can have 2 or 3 changes a week So a few weeks ago I went to kmart and got the cheapest cover I could find. Its a great colour - totally my bag - but it's horrible almost parachute style material - poorly made - it's already been mended - but most importantly it washes well and dries incredibly fast - and it was only 12 bucks. So today - in an attempt to get mr man back in to his own bed - I went back to kmart and got him a single cover to stuff his blankets in (he has an old king doona I got for free of facebook... purposely got the same style - down to the pattern in case it made a difference... and well... 2016-07-14_09-53-47 by Superspanger, on Flickr It's early days yet but this looks to be a good sign... Not in the most practical of spots for me - but our room is small and it means I can pat him from my side of the bed. He's passed out in there now - and he put himself in there rather than get up onto the bed with me ... So fingers crossed I can transition him back into his own bed - which should help us both feel a lot less creaky in the mornings. In terms of other things -touch wood I don't jinx us - but we seem to be going well. He has been a bit off his food recently - I'm wondering if his plastic bowls need chucking or if there's more to it. He's eating well enough when I make a fuss of him. He's also due a dental - I just need to save a bit up - so I hope he's not in pain - I dont think he is as he's eating really well when I fuss over his food. He just needs to hold out a few more weeks (so terrible to say that - but its true). I don't want to put him under but he does need it. Not much else to add - he's been sleeping through the night like a champ, the meds seem to be working really well. We're due a check up and script refill soon. So I'll have a chat our vet then about some supplements which claim to slow progression of CCD- I think the vivitonin just "masks" the symptoms - don't want him on too many things but slowing him down - keeping him at this level for as long as possible would be a real blessing. I'm not looking forward to the progression (not that any of us look forward to our dogs aging) and that's kind of that. Just wanted to share the piccy ... :)

Hard to say - but possibly not. You've said the ranger was happy with the set up - so again - I'd say you're probably not at fault. -
This. Take care

I've responded to Hokit - but thought I'd add a shorter, general comment here - for future researchers. I've gone through my emails and it looks like I've deleted some of the information I had gathered (most stuff I didn't directly use). I was sydney based and got quotes from Jet pets, sky pets, dogtainers, pet carriers international and Mooreholme park (DOLer Wayrod) Scottie was right on 10 kilo when we were in the process of moving. He's a tall fox terrier. I was quoted between 2300 and 3915 for him - based on my description & weight - no other measurements. The high quote was revised down, with no explanation, when I asked why it was so much higher than all the others. They revised down to 2350 - but by then they'd lost my custom (I actually think it was the removal company adding a bit of cream to the pot - but regardless - no deal). In the end I picked the company I did for a really silly reason - but there just wasn't enough difference in cost or customer service at the quoting stage to make a choice. So I picked my company because they have a facebook page and they were regularly posting pics of happy dogs and cats coming and going from their offices. Dumb reason I know - but that's how I picked them. All my quotes broke down into freight, vet visit #2, NZ customs. You'll be expected to pay for vet visit #1 - with a quarantine vet - which is unlikely to be your regular vet- your shipping company will give you the name of an allowed vet + your schedule -. My vet was lovely - its a really straight forward process. A check up along the lines of an annual / vaccination check. Blood test for heart worm, they check your vaccination records and do a general physical + test for a thing... which sounds like babesia (not how you spell it) While my dog arrived healthy and happy (ONLY important thing) I had some complaints; I sent meds with him which were not given as instructed I was contacted directly by NZ quarantine, via Qantas and asked to complete paperwork and pay a fee - which I really objected to as I assumed my company would do all of that for me. I thought I was employing them / contracting them to do the paperwork. And, what appeared to be a large amount of amount of money (to me) should have been all inclusive. Of course this was during my last week at work when I was frantically trying to get wrapped up and finalize the house move too. It was the MPI NZL form. It also required an airway number - when I called *my company* to get it they were surprised I had to do this - so its possible it was a new process - but I was pissed off they were not across it. They supplied the airway number - they didn't offer to help do the form! I also completed the NZ Customs processing form and sent that off to another contact at NZQ. I then had to call NZ and pay via credit card! When we arrived we also had to pay another fee (can't remember what or how much) at the counter before I could get him from the airport. We didn't actually go above the quoted price at any stage (I don't think - its a bit fuzzy) but I was really shitty about that! Never followed it up - I really should have! Again - just another surprise - it would have been fine if it had been mentioned. The other thing worth mentioning was that I thought I was hiring the crate he was shipped in - but we actually purchased it. When I went to leave it at the terminal I was told I could but it would have to be destroyed and that most people took theirs and sold them to re-coup some money. I'm glad we kept ours - it has come in handy - but the car I was picked up in was tiny and full to the brim with me, the driver, things for the house for my fist night + 3 huge bags - so it was a moment of panic to try and fit a huge crate in too! So basically I paid for someone to collect my dog from my house, one night board in sydney, drop off at airport + one vet visit. I didn't need "plane to door" at the other end so no idea if that was included or not. We never got a post on facebook - ha ha ha - I guess he wasn't cute enough for them. One last whiny thing - we didn't get any form of follow up. Not a single email or call to see how he got on - which I thought was extremely poor considering the cost & stress of flying a much loved pet. I think a call would have helped with a lot of the grumpiness I have expressed here. Bascically, the thought crossed my mind a number of times that it would have been easier to do it myself - but I dont think it would have been. Remember when i said he was tall? He was also bumped up into the next crate size at no extra cost to me. Which I appreciate and I wasn't faffing about with him at the airport while trying to calm my own nerves and saying good bye to my parents So while I wouldn't enthusiastically endorse them - they were fine. Adequate. As I said - he got here safe and well and that's all that matters to me. Just be vigilant about hidden costs. Your lowest quote seems very low for a flight from WA - its possible its just 'freight' and you'll be expected to pay other things along the way. Other things: Factor in the cost of local dog rego fees (about 130 per year in my council area - could be more in Auk. It's paid annually and you get a small discount / you pay a pro-rata amount - but they've just been renewed for the year so you'll have to pay close to the full amount). This is compulsory. It costs about $15 to have your dogs microchip added to the NZ register too. I don't think this is 100% required - but it makes sense.
