  1. Slightly off topic - the only time I ever fainted in surgery during my kennel hand / back up vet nurse days was the time we closed the surgery for emergency surgery to remove a mango seed from a dogs intestine. My boss never let me live it down - poor woman! Lucky it was a pretty pissy faint where I slid down the wall and was back up soon after. Washed my face, re-scrubbed and was back into it. Back on topic - that muzzle looks terrible - sorry! It would be a gross trap for bacteria & smells, could be easily pawed off like a halti, easily chewed though & I suspect would be somewhat restrictive to the dogs ability to pant . I wouldn't waste my money
  2. A weed is just a plant growing where it shouldnt..... It is beautiful isnt it. No idea what it is.
  3. @Roova - It's a weed growing on a rubbish heap Oh edit - meant to say earlier - great bird shot Such characters to watch And @persephone - I haven't seen Smoke in ages. Gorgeous boy!
  4. and as a totally off topic thing - something I went and dug up off facebook the other day
  5. It's been ages since I updated here. Weight steady at 11.5 still being careful but I don't think we'll get that last kilo back off him Vaccination top up in Jan - Just KC so he can board and go to day care as needed. Clean enough bill of health at that stage - bloods pretty good. Back in two days later as he managed to pull his dew claw out doing god only knows what in the yard one night when he should have been weeing. Deafness has bought a whole new level of stubborn to our lives. Night time wees have become a battle of the wills - usually with me giving up and coming in from the cold - to be woken a few hours later for an urgent night night wee ... Unfortunately with the weather and where we live and how the back door is set up AND the dementia leaving the door open or having the doggy door set up isn't an option. I don't mind - I'd prefer he wakes one of us but I'd MUCH prefer he actually wee'd when I asked him to at a civil hour of the evening. He boarded last week while we were home for 4 days. He did really well from what I can see / tell & I was very happy with the place. No obvious signs of distress in him (he came home with rub marks on his face from the last place and they didn't follow my instructions). Only issue being he came home lame. I suspect he over did it in their paddock where they have free run. I think 4 days with access to a paddock where he can goof to his hearts content saw him over do it. I watched him Wednesday night and made an appointment at the vet by Thursday had him in the vet today. Some worry about his lower back & we've been sent home with 7 days of metacam to see if he comes good or if we need a stronger plan of action. Silly old man. Anxiety levels are medium to very good. Hubby had some extended time off over xmas going back to work for a week in late jan then having a few more weeks off - so this week is the first week with us back to our real routine since before Chrissy. He's been really good with hubby home - only having one or two very bad days and even doing stints of up to 4 hours un-medicated! We've even started going to yoga once or twice a week with no obvious tantrums or side effects. So that's nice to be able to do real grown up things again - like going out in the evening - even if it is only for an hour or two at a time. That's about it. He's pretty happy at the moment but really aging - I've really noticed it lately.
  6. Week 8. From the local off leash. 20170129_173659 by Superspanger, on Flickr
  7. All of this. Trampoline style beds can take a good flogging too. & are fairly easy to repair during the pupoy stage! We have used them for years. Current boy isnt so into them.
  8. Vanessa get in contact with @Jumabaar(vua pm here or this is her fb page https://www.facebook.com/primalpaws.helpingpets/) & I'm sure she'll be able to help or point you in the right direction.
  9. I see you're in Victoria so I'll assume you've not been to Parklee... 1. Very little airflow in there 2. Very little foot traffic these days 3. The temp was probably not much cooler anywhere else - however the petition makes it sound as thought they animals were being traped up for the night. Knowing the venue, that's a horrible thought. 4. There's not really an "out the back" so they;d have possible gone into a vehicle but all just huge assumptions on my behalf.
  10. Hey Thistles Mum - long time no see. You've possibly seen this, your (bolded) comment made me think of it. https://denisefenzi.com/2015/08/10/acclimation/
  11. Don't come into this thread too often but, obviously, just have. Big hugs
  12. My boy is the first dog I can recall having dew claws and I can tell you now - If I had him as a younger dog I'd have had them removed. He's always hurting them! The first time was within a week of bringing him home from the shelter on trial. Most recently this year he pulled the nail out of the pad while he was out having a night time pee - god only knows how! Talk to your vet but I would be having them done at desex & done properly they shouldnt grow back
  13. I don't disagree with you entirely Moosmum & I certainly wouldn't say I'd want to remove dogs from the public eye. I also don't agree 100% either. I think there are two very distinct things here. 1 - the conditions the animals were left in in this particular circumstance 2 - puppy farms / animals in pet shops. I think we could probably both agree 1 is not on. As for 2 I think you raise some good points. I'm not against animals being made visible for sale. I just don't understand why people need to walk in and purchase a poorly breed (usually young) animal while they're also buying fruit and veg. ??? I think there is a place for rescue animals in shop fronts (like the petbarn & other pet supply shop examples). Sydney cats and dogs home also have a great deal with Urchin Book shop in Marrickville - Cats in a book shop - my idea of heaven!
  14. Don't think this will help, but we had a friend pull out of a similar situation because a small number of owners didn't want her cat in the complex. :/ She decided she didn't want the ongoing stress - she's been in her current home now for 8 years and her cat is 12 now. She also decided she didn't want those kinds of people as neighbours...
  15. I knew someone who went to Parklea for fruit & veg. $700 later she'd "rescued" a bitch from there. Went back a few weeks later to buy a male to breed her with. No real idea if they're related. Probably are, severe jaw deformity on one. Tounge hangs out its mouth & everything ... but you know. .. she thinks its all good. Shes now a "[insert cutesy made up name for a chi x pug] breeder" Its been said before - my issue is this impulse purchase of pets. Amongst other things. I do not believe we need puppy farms or anyone who looks at a domestic animal & sees dollar symbols I believe we need caring ethical breeders who want to provide sound companion animals fit for purpose. & I don't believe Parklea fits that bill.
  16. Strange one this week (that's week 7 @persephone LOL) Not my absolute fave pick of my snaps for the week but... this building in Surfers Paradise had tentacles and ...well ... 'nuff said...
  17. Snuggled up after a morning walk & breakfast. Smooshy face boy.
