Would you get a second opinion now or???
Scottsmum replied to Scottsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
So we finished our initial course of pain killers. Long story short - he's started a new course of pentasan & been given a re-fill of pain meds. I've also started him on glucosamine and chondroitin & the chiro should be here this week. The pentasan / glucosamine and chondroitin combo seems to be working well. He had his pentsan injection on Friday morning & tonight was the first time in a really long time that he actually trotted along on his walk and didn't slow down or drag his feet since this all started. So that's great. I really wish I had pushed for pentasan 5 weeks ago when this started. I asked for it and was told it wouldn't be much help. I really wish I'd stuck to my guns. -
update; Staffordshires going to court - rescue still refusing to return
Scottsmum replied to _PL_'s topic in In The News
Oh, yes, on his terms he's great ;) We've only had him 3.5 years - and 1 of them he's been deaf - so as I said, I work with what we've got. But again, as others have said re- weight and medical conditions - if willingness to recall was an offense punishable by having your pet taken from you he'd be long gone AND don't even start me on Timmy the greyhound who we used to go to "obedience" with -
Nah, he's just a bit of a clepto Roova

I dont buy this "why would much loved pets run away" bullshit. Given a moment. Given half a second, Scottie will take himself on an "adventure". He never leaves the house or yard without a leash any more (and even when he coukd hear it was iffy then too). Not even to bring the bin in. I am under no false pretense that he would come back. He might. Eventually, after his fun was finished. And if he did he'd be more likely to be hit by a car than to make it back safely. Yes, i know its terrible behavior & training on my part, but I deal with what I have. His inability to recall should not reflect the love I have for him or be evidence to show im a terrible pet owner -
It might payto give them a call, not just an email. But also (as im sure you're aware) they might be dealing with Cyclone Debbie or just crap weather. ;)

I think migration is very common - I know when I worked kennels our vet was super strict about checking the whole dog (animal) over twice looking for chips. I also think failure is more common than we realise :/ http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/thousands-of-pet-microchips-faulty-20130905-2t6qg.html

Ikk. Scottie was taken to the shelter and a chip wasn't located. I've often wondered if he had a dodgy chip as he was castrated, tattooed and extreamly well cared for and trained (house trained & taught to not get on furniture for example). It didn't 100% sit that he wouldnt be chipped - and he's not old enough to have been born before 1999...

Miss M - One of my delightful dog walking doggies. Week 13: I dropped something while I was prepping dinner...

Excellent point Diva, It took Scottie a while before he was happy to cuddle with me. Now he's the cuddle master & we have regular sessions of "cuddles with Scott, with host Scott"
-
Mine cuddles, but entirely on his own terms. I think he enjoys it, otherwise he wouldn't do it / seek them out.

We've always had foxies as house dogs. Get on with the big dogs & have get up & go. Very low maintenance. These days mum has a dachshund as a house dog. She's 13 now, surprisingly good around the farm & sheep (but did have an occasional snap in her younger days), and has seen more campdrafts & more of the country in the campervan than I will in my life! But of course you need to be wary of standard things with doxies (backs, anxiety, some aren't so great with kids).

pup dying of hookwork after being wormed
Scottsmum replied to juice's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We were always told to rotate worm pastes with the horses. So mum also did the same with the dogs. Ideally different active ingredient ever 2-3 wormings. That's going back 20+ years now... -

looks like I need to do weeks 11 and maybe 12... We're not getting out much at the moment - with a sore back and crazy hours at work and uni being back in. ... scratching the bottom of the phone camera for these ones. And with that..More duck pond photos. It's a nice easy walk, LOTS to sniff, an occasional bolshy duck to look at and dream about chasing and I can easily carry him back to the car or sit on a lagoon side chair while he rests. Ideal walk for an old man. Week 11 by Superspanger, on Flickr

Sorry my bad - I read " NSW Mid Coast area" earlier in the thread and assumed Taree . Head's a bit fuzzy at the moment. I stand corrected. Either way, I stand by my previous comment - I personally think the rangers / pound were in the wrong in this case. -

Also, you've got to remember that things are just different in other states. Taree to Gloucester is an hour drive - you might not necessarily realise that they'd been taken over an hour away. (Same in Sydney - Scottie was picked up in Hornsby and taken to Carlton - minimum 90 minutes away and literally on the other side of the city.) I totally agree with Simply Grand, laws were broken and something very fishy has gone on here. -
