  1. We're out! Sorry. Have just come back from the vet and we've been put in quarantine with a suspected / mild case of kennel cough!!!! Sorry - would have loved to put faces to names.
  2. I didn't read the find print. (typical) .... I am still undecided :)
  3. That might relate to this story - http://www.delawareonline.com/viewart/20140211/LIFE/302110023/Creator-Labradoodles-laments-designer-dog-craze
  4. Not sure where I sit on this idea. http://www.awlnsw.com.au/pet-dating.html Discuss :)
  5. The cat display was hot. It was hot upstairs in general. Hard to say how to correct that. Lots of cats were gone by the time I got there (approx 2pm sunday) There was a nice mix of breeds there and it would have been a good opportunity to meet a few breeds if you were in the market. (As I have said) I got a Neo cuddle which was nice and got to meet some Leonburgers which was great as I have never met any before BUT... I found the exhibitors were a bit off. While I was there I saw... one exhibitor told me I *Should not* feed my dog a supermarket brand as "you just never know what you're feeding" The stay loyal guy walked away from me one of the treat ladies didnt even speak to me - even though I inspected almost every pack on the shelf (for the record I still got some fish jerky which Scottie LOVES, he doesnt rate the emu jerky) All dog handlers & dogs were really lovely :) As were the cats I also just found the mix of exhibitions were off; One Koi display - I doubt that the koi man would have had good ROI on his display. At least he was interested and chatted to me. No other fish lots of runs / chicken pens / enclosures - Not sure how you *really* market them - but I would assume that sticking your business card in them and leaving isnt the way. One had a huge dog in there just chilling. The man who was around that part of the display didnt attempt to speak to me - 3 vets (Green cross) ARH & Sash. I kind of get green cross as they're retail but I don't get why there were 2 referral / specialists there. I would always take my vets advice in relation to the actual reason I needed to seek specialist advice. the pet smells candle lady - random oh and I to ally missed the BARF guy I don't know what I was expecting to see but I don't think I was expecting so many collars and leads and bowls and stuff you can really get from any old pet shop. I think I was expecting more agility/training/sports (there were some), LOTS more nutrition, toys, supplements etc. I also agree on more advertising - it's poor form that the only website was the actual exhibitor website not an actual info website for consumer. Sad thing is that this poor vendor = lower crowd = less vendor choice problem is a self fulfilling prophecy. Oh well. I got some samples and as I have said at least 3 times now- some giant cuddles.
  6. Yes I saw this article on another forum. Truly horrible.
  7. We're most likely coming. Just need to see how work pans out this week
  8. Met the "Stay Loyal" guy tray at the expo. Maybe he was tired, but he wasn't particularly interested in speaking to me. Anyone using the product?
  9. Not sure if this was them but http://www.friendlydogcollars.com.au I have to admit I was pretty disappointed in the expo but I did have BIG Neo and Leonburger pats so it wasn't a huge waste of time.
  10. I'd really like to get Scottie into something like this as he's so laid back. I think he's too old for Delta (we don't know his actual age but the shelter listed him as 10). Should I call delta and enquire or are there other places which might be more open to a senior? I watched the delta assessment video - he'd pass it easily. Oh, Were in the inner west of Sydney if that helps.
  11. And to a vet local to where they're found. I can actually recall two cases of people bringing dogs into the clinic I worked at which was at last 30 minutes drive from where they found the dog (because "Dr. CXXX is their family vet and they trust her..."). I also saw a stray on the Sydney dogs and cats home where someone had picked up a stray in Bathurst on the long weekend and driven it all the way back to SDCH. Now I get that there might not have been a vet open on the public holiday but REALLY?? REALLY??
  12. I'm not at all a fan of harnesses. They're fiddly and as others have said - don't actually give you that much extra control. Give me a flat collar any day.
  13. Scottie gets in for cuddles occasionally. He got into bed for a few hours this morning - I assume he was cold. He's not a big fan of staying in bed and will usually get down / prefer to stay on the mat at the foot of the bed. That said, I have been away for work fro 4 days and I note he's clearly been in our bed, a LOT, during work hours as hubby hasn't been closing the hall door properly. Which is an absolute No-no. Don't worry. Hubby got in trouble for not eliminating the temptation.
  14. Watching this thread as Scottie often drops to a down while practicing a sit stay.
  15. Photoshoot is a great idea. I have a lovely professional canvas of my old lady in the lounge room. I look at it every day. Depending on where you are in NSW I can recommend someone who loves dogs and is very reasonably priced to do a shoot with you. Also - just spend lots of time together doing things she loves. I found it most comforting to just spend time with my girl in our final days together. Lots of love to you at this stage - it's never easy.
  16. A friend has a wolfhound with the same problem. He often wears a soft shirt (kids flannel PJ top) to help reduce hair loss.
  17. +1 The biggies are clearly very taken with him too.
  18. Yep. I spent a whole weekend reading a nutrition book not so long ago. BTW, Stinky Scottie is still on VIP (alternating with Ziwipeak and other things) seems happy :)
  19. I'd love to hope you're wrong but don't think you are. All I can say is I hope I don't walk into the same room with him in 6 months time. Its a tiny waiting room! I only know one and he's a big sooky baby - so not a balanced assessment of the breed. Who knows - maybe this guy just wanted to say hello (with his teeth).
  20. We popped into the vet to grab a few over the counter items yesterday an there was a little Bully puppy - He was quite young, he also had scratches all over his muzzle. I don't know Bull Terriers well enough to say how old he was but he was young. Scottie was on leash, there was a lady at the counter with a cat and another lady waiting with a cat. The second we walked in this pup went off his tree - growling, twisting, biting at his owner, barking. Really going off his tree. While all of this is going on, Scottie is being a saint (thank God) the cat people are looking mortified and all the bully owner can say is "oh well, that's the breed for you". It was a really poor PR for Bullys and I really worry about how this driven little guy will grow up.
  21. Gah!!! Looks like we've got them too. I found flea dirt on Scottie so I whipped out the flea comb and didn't get any of the little buggers. Grrr.... frontline and laundry were the next steps. I freaking HATE having fleas :)
