  1. That was very hard to read. But incredibly beautiful. Lots of love to you and your family. Take care.
  2. 12 months ago this weekend I said goodbye to the puppy love of my life. Tonight Scottie, who's not a snuggle pup, curled up on my lap and stayed there til my hand fell asleep and I had to turf him. :) There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie -- Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear. When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet's unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find -- it's your own affair -- But . . . you've given your heart to a dog to tear. When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!) When the spirit hat answered your every mood Is gone -- wherever it goes -- for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear. We've sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we've kept'em, the more do we grieve; For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long -- So why in -- Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?
  3. oh my god I blabbed like a big baby when I watched Ruby's video this morning.
  4. Yes. Scottie and I will probably enter "waggliest tail"
  5. Spud the wonder dog. First family pet. B+W foxie. He started it. :) First dog who claimed me - Jill the neurotic blue ACD. :)
  6. Dogs will be dogs. Just like kids will be kids (the human kind, not the goat kind). There is only so far you can push or excite an individual before they snap - no matter how well behaved they are. There is no reason a goat should be in an off leash dog park. Same as there is no real reason you'd have a dog in a kids play ground (especially an occupied one) or running through the middle of a sports field in use.
  7. I already said I call Scottie my fur child and I fessed up to asking the boss where his was the other day but that said I wouldn't like someone I didn't know or a company to refer to my dog as my fur child. I think its a term of endearment and if I were addressing someone I didn't know about their dog I would ask about "their dog" in much the same way I would expect the vet or the pet shop to enquire about my dog, not my fur baby and I sure as heck would never expect to have someone refer to my husband as "snookums" (for the record that isn't my term of endearment for hubby)...
  8. Scottie and I are going to enter the "Waggliest tail" part of the show.
  9. This looks like a cute festival for Sydneysiders and their pooches. Scottie and I and a mate might pop along. http://www.dogparade.com.au/about.html https://www.facebook.com/TheGoodDogEasterDogParade
  10. try a product like this. Maybe not on your other dogs collar (or on other items which come into direct contact with their skin) but certainly on the other items? http://www.animalhealthstore.com.au/crib-stop-spray-500ml.html Also the shelter I got Scottie from had these heavy duty pet trampoline beds which looked like they were made from canvas (easy to clean and looked hard to chew. Cant help with a link there.
  11. Never with my old girl - it wasn't her thing. She wasn't social or interested in being out doing people things. We do take Scottie when we're out specifically for a meal and its convenient, but I am fussy as to where (e.g., not on a main road, somewhere he can have some sun, somewhere he can get out of the way - yes we have a cafe that fits the bill).
  12. I don't mind the term. I actually asked my boss where his fur-child was this morning (rare day in the office without him). That said - I never refer to Scottie as my fur child. I do call myself mum, and my husband dad and do occasionally call him my baby. Please don't shoot me or kick me off the forum.
  13. I think this is more impressive than that video doing the rounds with like 20 collies waiting their go :)
  14. Gotta appreciate the work gone into them! I'd love to see one on a sighthound or an AmStaff
  15. I should have added the disclaimer that I am a a poor tigharse too :)
  16. I adore Frenchies - wouldn't own one as I don't think I'll ever have a brachycephalic kind of dog but yeh - I couldn't justify that kind of money for a pet. and I'd bet that you're buying an entire bitch for 6500 I doubt you're planning on having her as a pet. Probably planning to use her for BYB. anyhow, as you said - getting off topic.:)
  17. Dont blame you for being nervous - but pups will be pups :)
  18. It's got my vote - reasonable cafe, lots of off leash options and shelter if it does rain. :)
  19. I hope so :) I posted a similar comment about the shelter I support jacking their prices up a few weeks ago (can't find the link just at the moment). I Notice they seem to have put the prices back down (they went from 415 for an older dog, to 615 for cuter, younger or otherwise apparently more "valuable" dogs). I just don't get it - I could never justify spending 1000 on a PET. It's not a question of mixed breed, rescue or any other - for me if I was forking over $1000 it would be with proven bloodlines for showing, breeding or working (or combination of above).
  20. Sorry to read that. I'm grateful for the last days I got to spend with my old girl - I hope you can try to enjoy the remaining time together too.
  21. They're both stunning. That photo with his 'sisters' head in his mouth is mind boggling to me as a foxie owner :) he must be a tank. :)
  22. They're not that easy to find (I looked all over the inner west of Sydney to find something like you just described. The upside to a dedicated puppy class is I) you can discuss topics such as vaccination, II) most places I approached / read up on dont take pups unless they hold it indoors so they can disinfect the floors (can;t disinfect an oval!) III) (some believe) its less scary if there are only pups there
