Its great. It's the Animate XL (pet barns own brand) for anyone looking for similar. As I said one of the last ones and hidden away so others would hopefully pick up the others which were a good 20-50 more expensive

I agree with this - and (per comment directly between my post and quoted post. I dont think it would be rude to not leave details. A simple, and maybe offer a suggestion to fix it (shade cloth, other means to visually block). I'd suggest that the note, trainer, citronella collar and fact they're inside when owners are home means the owners are loving, concerned and genuinely trying to fix problems.

And one of my favourite sets of photos. I might even get this trio printed

This dude has me totally wrapped around his waggly tail. We got a bed for him this weekend. It's way too big for him but it was one of those things. We had a very specific list of things I wanted - mainly very high walls. Countless hours of searching later we were pulling a bed down off the third shelf, stuffed up in a corner. It was on sale and had clearly been hidden so people would grab the more expensive ones. Plus we had a voucher so we got it for 90 bucks. He's spent the rest of the weekend enjoying his blanket palace and making happy grumble noises. It'll be great in summer - he'll be able to spread out - A LOT! Til then.... is snuggle time with mah blankies and my cushy :) In other news... Until the bed he was gleaning body warmth off him Mummy. (I was happy - I finally had a lap dog)

Just really surprised me. Don't think I've ever noticed it on a canned supermarket pet food product (other than treats of course). Makes total sense - it says it only has chicken, chicken broth and rice - blind freddy would be able to tell that's not balanced.

I agree! Couldn't agree more!!!!! My last dog had liver trouble which was diagnosed and the diagnosis bought her many more years of a good, healthy life. When I was researching the disease (sorry, can't think of the name right now) it was scary how often people had mis-diagnosed it as "old age". One medication, twice a day for 2.5 years improved her quality of life out of sight. When she first went on the meds she lost weight easily (a good thing - as we'd been battling the paunch), got her appetite back, got her energy and lust for walks back and the big one - was able to get up and down on the "people bed" again - something she hadn't done in over 6 months. It was when we saw her getting around on the furniture again that we realised how down hill she'd done without us noticing! We'd just put it down to "old age" A full blood panel and any other tests you can afford is SO worth it.

Would This Situation Work?
Scottsmum replied to Henrietta's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think there would be a lot of rescues willing to work with you - especially if you put the feelers out that you're looking for a dog who's a bit aloof. My boy sounds perfect - he's so blasé about other dogs it's just not funny. (Sorry - no you can't have him ;) ) Some (most?) will also give you a trial period and most will make you introduce your current pets to potential pets. As someone above said - you'll only know if you try. Maybe some off leash time with some quiet non-reactive dogs you know might be helpful when you're preparing for this (ages down the track I hope ;) ) I would also add - you just never know how Abby will react to being an only dog. My girl, who had always had one or more dogs for company was perfectly OK being an only child after her last mate passed and she really enjoyed the single life for the rest of her days. -
Tried a can of it tonight. It was gobbled down in record time. I noticed on the can it said it wasn't balanced or intended for every day feeding unless fed with a balanced dog food.

Oh your babies are so lovely. I've always had a soft spot for Bullarabs.

Commercial Dog Food Spreadsheet
Scottsmum replied to Scottsmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks - Have seen that site. Its more for the excel sheet (+ mine has Aussie $ and links) -
Hi All, I love me a good spreadsheet! And I've started filling one in for commercially available dog foods. I'd love if people could help me fill it in with options they're familiar with. A few parameters: This is only for commercially available animal foods and treats. No home made raw options please. (I'm not anti-raw) I just want a list of commercial options. This isn't supposed to be a place to bash or promote brands - but if there are genuine pieces of info (e.g.: Doesn't reconstitute well - then please include in the notes) Please feel free to add fields that you think are appropriate - I've based the columns around price, "flavour" and "dietary claims" (e.g: Grain free) as they're the things that are important in our house at the moment. I've only added a few items at the moment - brands which I have been reading up on or have been or are currently in rotation here at home and even they're not 100% complete. Any how, here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IM-qQS6teiQCxHUhd44mMQZ8iySDSgTH-VjQ2PX3PrE/edit?usp=sharing I hope it's editable, ends up being useful and maybe even fun... PS - If this has been done and published here before - please let me know :) I did search. Edited to add: I've thrown in a few very cheap low end options incase someone needs / wants / likes the info.

Just wanted to add - Scottie has now decided that VIP is a no go. He's such a fussy monster!

Any links or anything? I've never heard of it (But I'm hardly an authority)

Some vets will sell you single tablets too - my old one did. It was great for months when you were a bit poor - you could grab one tube of frontline, one capstar, one worm tablet. :) Worth asking your vet if they do it.

Bassett Hound - 10 Yr Old Male
Scottsmum replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That's terribly sad. we adopted an older gentleman on purpose Hope this guy can find someone to care for him in his old age. -
Possibly. Thanks fbaudry :)

My old lady dog lived our her days on ID (probably close to 12 months) Not a choice she was super impressed with but one which kept her alive.

Does anyone still have the exhibitor list or remember the name of the pod bed people (kind of in the middle, next to a pet treat / jerky stand) they made covers for round beds

Oh. I had a similar post recently ( I was considering moving there. Lots of good info in it). Also spent some time talking to a very friendly pet friendly real estate agency who specialise in holiday accomm. Cant find their details just at the moment but will post as soon as I do - as they were really really great. (and I dont think Ive ever said that about a real estate agent before) Edited to add: Link to the RE add on gumtree. Ignore the contents of the add - just get in touch and let them know what you're after http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1036272431 Link to the thread I posted about 6 weeks ago :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/255996-coffs-harbour/page__p__6440014__hl__coffs__fromsearch__1#entry6440014

Best/ Worst Dog Treats And Chews
Scottsmum replied to JenniCB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Anyone have any feedback on these? Mighty Raw age appropriate chicken and duck treats (grain free) http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/mighty-raw-grain-free-chicken-and-duck-treats-senior-dog#.U1SUcNy4LwI I have a rellie who is raving about them - but to be honest - Scottie prefers "jerky style" treats (particularly the skinny fish kind). -
(Yes - I realise I'm probably too late to chime in here) but.... If your boy is happy enough to be locked in the back yard all day with a bone and a kong - do that. We used to lock the kids in when I lived at home with my parents. 100% failsafe way to ensure they didn't bug the 40 kilo dotty cross - or more specifically the grumpy old lady box terrier.
-
I can post you a scoop or two?

SO grateful for this tread. We live in a terribly cold house (often in winter the only thing to do it go to bed with the blankie turned on). Scottie feels the cold and I'm so worried as he's not a sunggler like my old girl was. She'd get into bed - actually you'd have to force her to get out of bed - where as he'll prefer to just sleep on the floor. Doesn't like things over him either. Lots of great links and ideas. Thank's everyone :)

Oh My goodness - I'll whinge about the cost. Scottie is 10 kilos and let him have a 1 kilo bag per month. It works out at about $50 per kilo for us. As I said, we supplement with raw mince and a much cheeper grain free kibble.
