When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
Scottsmum replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
Us too - all our own bedding - partly because - I only like sleeping in my own bedding but also because I sleep better knowing exactly where the dog is (on my feet) in a strange environment and I can tell if he's getting restless / needs a pee -
I like weatherbeetas - good quality, good fit, warm, waterproof (in some cases) easy to repair and easy to get off if a dog decides they're not happy in their coat. About the right price.

Totally off topic - I assumed Wiz was a boy. Now I feel silly :) I think I might have even called her "handsome" on facebook once. Oh well, girls can be handsome and she really is stunning.
-
Reasonably similar experience - we;; - family with weims who worked with Dad - sadly 2 went early due to lead poising - Brit (the last one) was around until she was 17 or so.

We had Weis when I was a kid - don't remember them being velco or needy. Lovely pets, loyal and kind dumb was my overall impression of my dads 3 girls. (no offence to any one) I'd have another in a flash - but we rent and I wont get another big dog until we own our own home. You've told us about the practical YOU and what you can offer but you haven't spoken about what you want .... Does it have to be a big dog, can it be a cattle dog, terrier, do you melt every time you see a weim? We have fox terrier. I've always had a little dog and a big dog. As I said, my lifestyle restricts the big dog side of things so we just have the foxie at the moment. But for me - it was a no brainer. My little dog of choice is a foxie/Jack russell / tenerfield style dog. Not a pom or a poodle - nothing wrong with eiter - they just dont speak to me. Just to state the obvious - each breed has its pros and cons. Every single person on this board will be able to give you reasons for or against any breed, mutt, rescue. Some people really want to go through the puppy stage, others might be happier with an adolescent who;s ready to hike and bush bash with you, others - myself included wanted an older companion for not much more than cuddles (we adopted a senior). It sounds like you're going with your head, which is important, but give your heart a little bit of a say too. good luck :)

Country Girl - antlers make great, (usually) long lasting chews :) Can be hard to get over here.

I'm not fussed if he doesn't enjoy the treats - they're really just for me to feel like I'm spoiling him. It's not like he needs them :) So I'll try a few more times and gift them on if that's the case. Was very impressed with service and speed. Will use them again.

Any chance you can get someone to look in Sydney and see if you can get a bag or 2 sent down to help ease the transition. I would offer but I'm not a costco member.

We got ours today from Natural pet (or what ever they're called). Very prompt, very well packaged. The treats were even bubble wrapped LOL. So far the treats (whole mussels) not so popular, but the brickette things were eaten with no coaxing. Will report back at the end of the bag (probably approx 1 month) with the verdict. Will try mixing the treats with warm water as per the suggestion on the package. Will also give some to one of the family cats when I next see her owner just as a bit of an experiment.

A Friend Rescued A "fox T X" From Pound About A Year Ago

:) Lovely story. I often wonder about Scottie's background. Must be nice to fill in part of the story - without the fear of maybe having to return Mr D. -
11 Year Old Greyhound In Renbury
Scottsmum replied to HazyWal's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Naw.I saw this old guy on Facebook earlier. If I ever win the lotto I'm going to start an old dog rescue. -
I feel the same way about Scottie :)

My old boss was always very good at letting me take off to go to the vets and I even spent a few days at home with Guin - at what was the beginning of the end. My current boss would also be OK with it but I dont think it should be extra and above. Annual or personal leave is adequate.

Plus... I love this. Hard.

There was a fair whack left at Marrickville around lunch time. I didn't get a bed as I have the Animates one (as I have said a few times) and couldn't justify a second one. I did get a second coat so we can rotate when the other gets stinky. It's pretty good quality and fits very well but I am worried he'll wee on the hind surcingle (might have to chop it off). I also got some really yummy pink lemonade :)

Rspca Katoomba Shelter To Close
Scottsmum replied to gillbear's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
How sad, but maybe something positive can come of it. -
Ordered my bag. Fingers crossed we can add it to the rotation of 'things we might eat for about one week on, one week off... which are grain free and wont upset our tummy'

Dame DD - You'll find a lot of the products at Aldi are brand names - I know for a fact that some of the juice is Nude Juice, bread ir rumored to be tip top, cake mix is rumored to be greens wtc. I'll bet my last dollar that the beds are identical to the pet barn branded bed I purchased a few weeks ago :) Welcome to the world of Aldi :)

Any reason why Scott can't get bones? They would most likely improve his stools (as well as provide calcium, assist with dental hygiene etc) Wont eat them - will only bury them. Gets chicken necks and others occasionally but yeh. Bury the bone, track mud into the house. Plus I usually forget to defrost them (try to give him 2-3 chicken necks or off cuts every week)

Hey Jennifer - from the looks of the site linked above they dont sell any of the snr products in the smaller size http://pookinuk.com.au/index.php/for-dogs/dog-food-brands-l-z/sunday-pets.html?dir=asc&order=price Any other places to try?

Help - Tips For Stinky Dog!
Scottsmum replied to brightstar123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm a bit late to the party and not an expert ... but... I'll add my 2 cents worth :) (With our own story, if that's OK) Scottie is as stinky dog - itchy, oily, gunky eyes, farty. Also fussy. Having never owned a fussy dog or a dog with allergies before I didn't make the connection between the symptoms above and his diet (bad, I know). Over xmas he went off all commercial food and I had to resort to cooked chicken and rice to entice him to eat anything. Long story short - we've been mostly grain free since and all symptoms (other than bad farts) stopped within 3 days. Due to his fussyness we often try new things but find he gets gunky eyes within 2 days if there is something in a new food he doesn't agree with. If that's the case we stop immediately, scratch it off the possible list and donate / gift what ever is left over. We're currently mainly on a mix of Ziwipeak and chicken mince. It's not quite right as his stools are not great but it's 100% solved his smellyness. Long story short - diet diet diet. -
Grrr... Stuff you lot... Now I'm interested in this too. Scottie is such a hard one to settle - between being fussy and having some allergy to grains (not sure which exactly) and a sensitive tummy....He's mainly on Ziwi and mince but his stools could be a lot better. Off to google this food :) Edited: Found it online http://pookinuk.com.au/ but wish I could get a smaller bag of the senior - anyone know if that's possible?

We love our much more expensive version (and I reckon I could fit in it!!!). Might even grab a second one for upstairs :)

Hi All, Aldi has plastic kennels, toys, coats (apparently waterproof) and beds on sale from sat 31. The beds look identical to the one I just purchased - but about $100 less then I paid.

That really annoyed me too - they called a few times to try and hustle me up but the price way too far out of my league. Now looking into some (canine) massage courses :)
