Dog With Ibd Needs Weight Increase
Scottsmum replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I second the dairy free probiotic - we mix one inner helath plus into Scotts dinner when we remember - when he first went on them he had his first solid poo in just over a week the next day. Eats it with no question :) -
Does this poor pup have any shelter at all? as their Duty of Care means that they have to provide "appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area. I would be reporting them if she has no shelter. I would also be having a discussion with them on returning to Breeder if she was purchased from a responsible, eithical Lab breeder or convincing them to contact either "Labradog Rescue" or "Rescue A Labrador" to surrender/turn the pup over to them to adopt out. Poor baby, makes me sick to the stomach reading of cases like this. My most recent Lab rescue, is a 6½ year old boy who spent his whole life outside on acreage and then when his family separated, none of them wanted him as obviously they had not bonded with him, out of sight, out of mind mentality , but at least they did do the right thing by him in trying to find him a home and he ended up being surrendered to one of the Labrador rescues from which I adopted him. He loves being inside with me and my other Lab boy and has made himself right at home and loves being up on the couch and sleeping on nice warm dog beds around the house :) Labs are very closely bonding dogs and do not do well relegated to the outside as garden ornaments Yep. Shes got a kennel etc down under the deck in a draft and weather proof area.

Its a no from my MFB. Didn't pass the three day test. Shame.

wow. Just wow.

;) Duh - There wouldn't have been any fights - he only let his mates out ... and ate his fill before letting the rest out. Bless his little heart. :)

Mine isn't head over heals in love with it but he's eating it with lots of coaxing when it's offered - by hand.

Introduction To Scent Sports

Thanks :D I think I will do it - even though it's a fair drive from home. It's a bit of a "going back to uni / there goes my life" pressie. :) -

When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
Scottsmum replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've seen a few videos (there is a group here in Sydney) but I haven't studied form. -
Anyone done this course or used this facility? http://www.lovesdogs.com.au/courses-payments/courses-and-events/scent-work/scent-sports-level-1-introduction-to-june.html We're just looking for something new to try.

When You Stay In Dog Friendly Accommodation
Scottsmum replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well...that's the thing....I would also like to make it "pretty" & I am not sure if "pretty" can co-habitate with dogs allowed on beds & furniture. I also want to have an enclosed area where dogs can exercise off-lead & enclose the agility field so dogs can practice. Every where else on the farm would have to be on-lead because of cattle & wildlife. Exception being for practicing their dock-diving off the jetty . By the way...you are invited Jules...along with everyone else who has said that they would promise to keep the dogs off the bed & the furniture :) What an incredible shot!!!!! Yes...it is an amazing shot. That is our mad keen dock diver, Cricket. But now the dam is about 8 feet below the jetty, because of the drought & the water is starting to muddie...but that doesn't dampen his enthusiasm one bit  There is no way we could take this guy to a headland with the ocean below...I am almost certain he would jump off Last off topic question (for this thread) do you compete in dock diving with him? -
List Of No Kill Pounds In Sydney
Scottsmum replied to dogslife's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Sorry to hear this. The only one I know of is Sydney dogs and cats home which is a pound for 11 different councils. I think most other pounds have a euth polity. Each council has a pound (or taps into a facility). I think the hills is blacktown / renbury. You're probably after a rescue group - many of which don't have a drop in facility (lots run from backyards and rely on private fosters). Edited to add: If you can convince them to hold on - it might be worth doing a phone around to see if a group will take him. -
I dont mind the smell - I think Ziwi smells worse.

Great guide :) I did laugh at the statement estimating the average owner spends approx $1600 per year on their dog... I'd hate to do the math on Scottie. Back on topic... Should I post this poor bubba a kong and some other enrichment toys? Puzzle / kibble ball (I would offend but not to the point of hurting the relationship)

Been there, almost done that with the same family. I suspect we'd have taken in their last dog when they were trying to dump it but it wasn't good with cats (we had 4 at the time, I've no real problem with outside only (although I dont subscribe to that view). Before I moved out of home my dogs were outside. What I really object to in this case it that it's a new puppy, its dark and cold and they're time poor - they could have at least waited until summer when the evenings are longer (more play time) and warmer. poor baby.

Its worth a shot :)

Maybe you need to let it out in the front (make more neck space)?

Depends on what you want from your kibble (other than the obvious). In our home its grain free, followed by palatability. I rarely take advice from a store attendant - I prefer to research and know what I want before I even step foot in a store. We do well on a mix of high end kibble (Ziwipeak) and chicken mince or supermarket grain free wet as well as a raft of other tempting treats. If I were you I'd be writing up some lists of pros and cons. Protein content, other nutritional features you're after....

I've resisted posting this here because it's a public forum but I am just so F'ing furious today! I know a family recently got a labrador puppy. Quite young, don't know the actual age. Cute little black fur ball. I personally thought it was the wrong thing to do as there are two young children in the family, one who is still quite small physically and another who is in after school activities 5 days a week. One of the adults in the family is also a shift worker. They live in the blue mountains and they're strict on the "dogs outside" rule. Basically they're time poor, live in a cold climate and I personally don't think a lab is right for their lifestyle... Anyhow... not my place to say and I certainly wasn't asked. Anyhow - all as been pretty quiet on the western front besides the "homecoming photos" until today when a series of photos popped up on Facebook. The pup has chewed a freaking great hold in the back deck and has now been baby gated off the deck all together. So not only is she outside - she's banished to the yard. Because... I assume she's a bored lab puppy. I'm just so mad. All of my predictions of this dog becoming nothing more than a badly behaved, lawn ornament who is ignored because she's too naughty are already coming true. There is prior form to suggest this will be the outcome. Don't even start me on getting a pup in the thick of winter! Furious. Absolutely F'ing fuming! Sorry. Just have to vent. edited to fix a copy and paste stuff up
