Yeh - this malt cross has been rehomed within the group. So lots of happy "yay we saved a life updated this afternoon". Apparently it came "with papers" I can only assume they mean toilet paper... Any of course (addressed to me) to "someone not to mention her a name thought he was a scammer n wanted to smash him whos the fool now missy dont let me bump into u missy im born n bred in the ville lol" All I can say is I HAVE learnt my lesson. Don't quite think it's the one she thinks she's taught me.

Weird Chicken Giblet Accident
Scottsmum replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Good catch! Yuck -
Nearly got myself booted from a facebook group last night... I'm a member of a local "pay it forward" group - you know - kind of like free cycle. While not able to be enforced, one of the "rules" is that you must live in area to use the service . Admittedly there are over 2000 of us -so I don't know everyone and the location rule is a nightmare for admin to police. Anyhow, this guy I don't know posts a young Maltese x saying "9 month old malt x, outside dog, free to good home. We've moving into a flat". When I clicked on the guys profile - he looked like he was about 17, he had all these other photos of this big hulk of a dog (very attractive, large mixed breed - maybe some bull arab kind of lines) - no mention of the malt puppy (not that facebook stalking is definitive). What worried me the most was that one of the images was of a kid holding the pup (kids head cropped off) but the kid was in a school uniform for a school which is very out of area (well over an hour from us). I was on my phone so I couldnt easily tag admin and so I called him on it and said - I think this is fishy. Followed by by "I don't mean to bash anyone who is looking to rehome a pet but his seems sus"..... Holy. Cow. holy holy cow. I had bleeding hearts attack me for judging the guy, I had the guy blow up because he's been threatened (he took bash in the physical violence sense of the word - even after I tried to explain), I had some woman swear at me for picking on this other dude..... and then the original poster say "fine - I'll just leave the dog in the street". It was such a bizarre and over the top escalation. Anyhow. Just needed to vent - it was so sus from beginning to end. Some pets really draw the short straw.

Sorry to hear your diagnosis. We've got a fussy up here. Things he loves: Eggs - dry fried (really we can often sneak some dry into the warm, runny yolk) Hard boiled eggs. Cold, mashed up. Shell off. Again. A sure fire bowl clearer. Unfortunately, also often a room clearer if you know what I mean. Cheddar cheese We buy cheap woolies grated and add it t meals. chicken and turkey mince - raw or cooked. Prefers it to pork. (beef is also good but too rich for his tum) ham - occasionally as a treat or if I have forgotten to cook a chicken breast for training chicken breast for high value training treats. ... that's about it really. We persist with a grain free dry & also Ziwipeak - which he goes on and off (I got lamb last time and its too rich for him to eat every day so not really pushing it... but we usually really only use it for treats / training.)

No. Thats where the whole back end / bum wiggle comes into its own

I think dogs love. There is some literature which suggests dogs serotonin levels increase when the hear someone they "love". I suppose its a hugely individual thing. How do they react when they see you after a long time apart? Are they willing to trust you when something scary grabs their attention? Do the choose to spend time with you when they have the option to be elsewhere... I have no doubt my feelings for Scottie are mutual ???? I couldn't put my finger on when this all happened... i still felt like we'd made a terrible mistake adopting him 4 to 6 weeks after doing so... And if it isnt love its as close as it can be and its wonderful!

Why dont you make it a policy to ask? Explain to eaxh new client (and existing ones) your view then ask them to make a choice. Slowly you should move towards a full roster if clients who are on board with your view.

Tail Wagging On Command
Scottsmum replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Scottie kind of does. I ise it as a tool to win "arguments" around the house... like "wag your tail if you think Graham should do the dishes tonight" ;) But... if pushed...I'd say its more the tone of my voice & Scotts good nature then a trick performed on demand. -
I was going to link to this :) ta

*help Needed* Training And Boarding Near Sydney
Scottsmum replied to Wayne H's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Where abouts in Sydney are you? -
We always did once a day until our vet suggested smaller more frequent meals as part of a weigh loss plan for my last dog. It kind of just became habit. I find it helps with medicating too. Generally Scottie gets the bulk of his daily ration in the AM and a top up at night.

My boy hates antlers but of office dog loves loves loves them...ive heard of soaking them in broth (as suggested above) but i think its juat a personal choice. I dont think they look very appealing... no meat. No marrow... cant blame them

I'm Confused - $50 Adoption Scheme
Scottsmum replied to Loreley's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I am speaking from personal experience. I do know for a fact that my vet takes in abandoned kittens and re-homes them. She sells tom cats for $70. That covers the cost of getting them chipped, vaccinated (for age) and desexed. Queens/females are slightly more. Yes, she 'looses' money on them, she feeds, fleas, boards, toilet trains and loves them for "free" but it is possible. Probably not possible for a dog - weighing so much more then a kitten, but as I said, maybe possible if you have a kind heated vet willing to do the work for cost. I have been doing cat rescue for 20 years in the ACT and even I do not get such cheap rates for the basic vet work. Males castration costs $75, F3 vaccination $45, chip $50 Females spey is $120. I sell for $250, which gives me $5 over the basic cost for a female. I make on the males, but that covers for any antibiotics that cats have needed, worming, flea treatment, food, litter. Rescuing is not a money making exercise by any stretch of the imagination. Vets can write their costs off as a tax deduction. I cannot. Makes a difference to the overall costs. I run my rescue on my own from a government pension and have learned how to budget. I have my own savings to back me up if necessary. Canberra is a very expensive place for vets. Melbourne and Sydney are very much cheaper, but of course, we live in Canberra and EVERYONE has a high disposable income! What a load of codswollop that thought is! Not having a go at you Scottsmum, just generalising. I never meant to imply that rescue was a money making option. I was simply saying that in some far flung universe if they had an exceptional relationship with a vet they might be able to break even on that price. I admit it is very unlikely. My example is a real example and I admit that the vet doesnt cover her own costs BUT the $70 for a tom / male kitten DOES cover the cost of the vaccination, chip and anesthetic to neuter. I don't know what a chip or vax wholesales for these days but I know from my time in the vet and wholesale animal industry it's not even close to $50 for a chip or vax. I'll leave it at that. -
What Would You Think Of A Vet Who Said This?

It does sound a bit shonky - especially the part where they say not to mention it to the pounds. But you never know. It could well be above board. I know you can vax, chip and desex a kitten for under $100 cost price so I suppose there is a very slim possibility you could do a dog for similar, if you have the backing of a good vet willing to do it at cost. Not sure I really like the messaging behind getting a pet for the holidays either. -
I adore my naots. :) thanks for the tip re: sale

Cleaning Kennels - What Do You Use?
Scottsmum replied to carolineh1's topic in General Dog Discussion
I woeked in a small kennel/cattery for a while. Small dogs under 20 kilos and cats only. Basic process: Both cats and dogs. Paper lining removed from every cage. Full scrub down with disinfectant every day Dried Reline with news paper. Refresh towel. Towels washed daily. Bowls changed twice daily (breakfast and dinner) All cat litter trays changed as needed. Min 2 times a day. All lined with newspaper too. Floor in cat and dog rooms swept and mopped daily. Occasionally all items bleached with a powdered bleach. I forget name. Larger maintenance as needed / on weekly or monthly rotation. Eg washing machine disinfected weekly. Lint filter daily. All surfaces wiped down at fortnightly (feed bins, newspaper storage shelf... etc) All cages pulled out from wall and walls and floor scrubbed monthly Air con filters washed monthly. -
this is the style, or something very similar, I saw a few women wearing yesterday and thought they looked good, practical, and comfy. Just what I want. I looked online but cannot see anything about their price. Can you remember what they cost, although I would imagine they've gone up a bit since you bought yours. I want to say 190ish but cant be sure. I norived the shop I got them from doesnt appear to stock them any more. Might be worth calling their head store in Melbourne and confirming orice and a local stockist
