  1. I'm sorry your pup is so scared!!! Definatley get her checked out by a vet first, if everything is O.k then you are going to have to work at getting her confidence back again.... I went through something similar with Bailey, I was walking him when he was about 13 weeks old and a huge truck went past a struck a pot hole. Bailey would refuse to go for a walk for ages! I just had to build his confidence up again with little treats and toys to show him that walks really were fun!! I know it is not quite the same but you will need to show her that everything is O.K, she should come out of it though...... Mel
  2. I say remove the temptation We had to do this with Bailey. We basically made our living room puppy friendly. So it meant using puppy gates to corden off electrical cords and things we didn't want him to touch and putting away things like remote control etc.......to be honest I think what you pup is doing is normal puppy behaviour...... I have a routine I follow everyday when I leave for work which means putting away anything Bailey and Chelsea shouldn't get into. I also scatter their toys all over the living room so that everywhere they look there is a toy this seems to help with the chewing of things that shouldn't be! Goodluck! Mel
  3. Bailey was always a tiny eater until we got our other dog Chelsea now he whoofs down his food!! As long as he has energy I wouldn't worry about it but as the others said chicken necks and wings are great and my pups love them!! It might help to increase the interest in food? Mel
  4. Bailey's teeth did this too but they fell out eventually so I wouldn't worry about it yet!! The vet I used to take Bailey too grabbed hold of Bailey's baby tooth and yanked it back and forth to see if he could get it out!!! Lets just say I NEVER went back to that vet!! Mel
  5. ;) I have just been sitting here giggling to my self!! So funny!!! Bailey hmm.......where do I start!! My favorite was when he managed to get my bathroom draw down, the one that was full of bobby pins, hair clips, hairbands, you know all that sort of stuff!! I came home from work to find our entire living room covered with chewed up bobby pins and hair clips, not a single clips survived and I still find bits of clips every now and then...... Then there was the time that he managed to drag a pot plant from the balcony through our living room spilling dirt everywhere and I had managed to water them that morning before I left for work!! I still haven't told my DH about that one!! ;) Nearly all my books have teeth marks and one of the funniest was when he got a whole six pack of toilet paper and chewed and threw it around our living room, I thought it was snowing when I got home!!! I think the worset was when he chewed through the foxtel cable!! DH didn't talk to him for a week They can certainly make you laugh!!!
  6. Chelsea gulped down a chicken neck the other day (without chewing it!) threw it back up and then ate it again. Your puppy probably just ate too fast or wasn't used to the food. But as the others said, don't take your pup to the park with other dogs until after the 2 week shots, its too risky!! If you need to walk your pup you could just walk on a footpath or road but it is still a risk. Try and wait if you can. Mel
  7. Hi There, I hope your training is going better!!! All the positive suggestions given by everyone have been great!! I think you will find that puppy school will be a huge help As far as the negative people go on this forum, you will get used it it!!! People just can't help themselves. They forget you are here for advice on the situation you are in not for them to pick the rudest and most negative thing they can think of. IGNORE THEM! THEY LOVE IT WHEN YOU BITE ;) And I'm really sorry about Ginger! I hope you can find her soon. Mel
  8. Hi All, Thank you for everyone that gave me advice ;) We had our first almost completely interupted nights sleep last night!!!! I honestly can't tell you if she was finally getting used to it or if it was because we were all so very tired that I didn't hear her cry but, she whimpered once and I ignored her and she went straight back to sleep so I think we are on the improve!! Yay!!! She is such a gorgeous girl!!! I have heaps of pics but haven't had the chance to download them yet but I promise I will in the next couple of day and post some Mel
  9. Hi Bellasperson, Thanks for your help She is sort of in a crate, its one of those puppy gates bended around to form a square......do you think she would be better in a crate? I have one I can use........ I probably have been comforting her a little bit, only by putting my fingers through the fencing for some reassurance? Should I stop that? I have also been telling her to be quiet so that may not be helping either?....... Mel
  10. Hi ?All, Just wondering if anyone has some advice for me!! We have new pup, she has been with us for a week now and still wakes up every hour crying!!! She sleeps in a warm bed in our bedroom right next to our bed with a warm blanket, hot water bottle, ticking clock and everything........ At first I thought it was because she needed to do a wee so I would pick her up take her outside to wee. She won't wee so I take her back to bed. This has now going on for a week with no improvements and I honestly don't know what to do............ Our first dog cried a couple of times on the first couple of nights but then slept through with no problems at all. I know she needs to settle in and I understand that and will do anything to make her feel safe and comfy. Any suggestions you have would be wonderful. Mel
  11. I don't know much about the breed but as far as a puppy goes when we got Bailey I came home for lunch everyday. I would have a big play and give him lunch. Now he is 15 months old and I still come home every lunch time and take him for a walk!! I honestly love spending my lunch break like that If you can't come home a lunch, is there a friend or family member that can? Bailey has 3 meals a day until he was 6 months old......... We have a new puppy arriving on Sunday. I have taken a week off work in order to spend some time introducing the dogs and then will continue on coming home at lunch. Also get lots of toys like treat ball and kongs, I also give Bailey frozen chicken necks as it takes him a while to eat and keeps him occupied. Mel
  12. We loved ours as well!!! Bailey learn't to sit and drop and how to interect with other dogs!! I also hadn't owned a puppy for a while so it was a great referesher on all their needs etc. So if your not enjoying it or find it informative perhaps find another one? mel
  13. I had this problem with Bailey for a while so I ended up changing dry foods to Purina as it is made from lamb instead of beef. Yes it is not the most expensive brand but my vet suggested it and Bailey loves it!! I also started mixing it with tuna (in oil), and adding eggs. I think Bailey will always be a picky eater but he does now eat his food at night. He also loves chicken necks, wings, frames etc........ What your doing now seems to be working though so good luck with it!! Mel
  14. Have you thought about putting up puppy gates to stop him from getting near the table? We did that to stop Bailey from chewing our couch........ Mel
  15. This is a great post! I have been feeding Bailey tinned tuna about once a week but I wasn't sure if it should be tuna in brine, tuna in springwater or tuna in oil? What is the best? Mel
  16. I would make sure you have a big walk in the morning so that she is really tired! Bailey sleeps for most of the day although I am home every lunch time for a walk and a play Lots of toys, kongs, treat balls, bones!! I'm sure she will be fine, just give her lots of quality time when you get home! I think we need to set up some sort of buddy system for all our dogs for when we are all at work!! Mel
  17. I had a blind border collie. She got poisened and went blind because of it. She lived a fabulous life though! We were just always careful not to move furniture as she knew her way around and she was fine! We lived on acerage so she still always went romping through the bush even though she couldn't see Mel
  18. Hi There, I took Bailey to the vet last night (for another issue) and he checked his teeth. Bailey has lost his bottom baby canines (I think this is what they are called?) but his top two are still very strongly wedged in with the new adult teeth! They are not even lose!!! He said the same, that they will cause problems later on so when we put him in for desexing if they are still there we will get them removed. Mel
  19. Bailey will consume a chicken neck in about 10mins a chicken wing in about 30mins and a lamb neck in about an hour..... It is probably different with every dog though? Have you tried chicken wings? Mel
  20. I feed Bailey chicken necks and he eats the whole thing? He is a poodle cross and almost 5 months so still a little dog........ I think lamb necks can be completely consumed but maybe they are a bit big for your dog? What sort of dog do you have? Mel
  21. Gosh!! I was just trying to help!!! I hope you work it all out! See ya!
  22. Jeezzz, where are you going for puppy school? When we took Bailey to ours we got advice on everything from food and diet, to fleas, worms, everything and she answered any questions no matter how silly they were? Our pup is nearly 5 month but we feed him the following: Breakfast: Dry kibble and puppy milk (We use Purina One as this is the only one Bailey will eat! Lunch: Dry kibble and a chicken wing or a couple of chicken necks Dinner: Dry kibble and leftovers At that age the pup should be feed at least 3 times a day and the kibble is very important as it contains all the good stuff that puppies need. You pup already had belly upsets? I think you should get him checked out? Mel
  23. I must try this with Bailey...... I think she was bringing you the egg as a present! Mel
  24. I would get him used to you touching his ears......Bailey is a cocker spaniel cross so I clean his ears everyday for him. I started just by playing with his ears and now he is fine. When clipping Baileys nails I give him treats, not just any treats it must be the chicken and rice tucker time roll!! Is there anything that he absolutely loves? The peanut butter on the wall thing works as well, if he doesn't like peanut butter try vegemite or pate! Mel
  25. He, he, he!!! Bailey jumps in circles everytime I open the freezer!!! Mel
