  1. I call it her 'boy bits' but modesty flap sounds much nicer!
  2. Alright hopefully this'll make it a bit clearer what I am going on about
  3. I'm not really sure to be honest... tried looking at some female dog anatomy diagrams but they were all internal. I just googled what an enlarged anal gland would look like (ew) but don't think that's what it is as it's not around the anus it's sort of like a flabby little pouch right above where her vagina is.
  4. No worries but thanks! She is quite the looker, though I may be a tad bias...
  5. And as a pup... ... have fun looking at my dog's junk!
  6. I always wondered why everyone assumes Didi's a boy, I know I tend to assume dogs are boys and cats are girls so figured it was just one of those things BUT my mum pointed out to me the other day that Didi does have really pronounced girly bits (I think it's the vulva??) so much so it kind of looks like she has testicles. Just wondering if this was just a benign little abnormality or if there could be something else behind it? It's been like this since she was a baby puppy but gotten more noticeable over time. She's been desexed since 8 weeks old (I know not ideal) so it's not related to her coming into season or anything. Tried to get a photo but she didn't really appreciate the intrusive nature of the task but you can still see it in these.
  7. Didi was quick to toilet train and being a big puppy could hold her bladder all night after a few days BUT teaching bite inhibition was so hard, nothing seemed to work until one day she got with the program (many bite marks later). The worst part is them growing up. It's only been 5 months, where did this tiny little baby go?
  8. Our puppy had this problem for a bit but the vet told us unless she seemed in pain peeing or that anything in that area was sensitive/hurting her that it should be fine and clear itself up, which it did. Was pretty embarrassing when she'd do a wizz at the park and then run around with this gross stuff hanging out of her
  9. Didi has pretty intense puppy dreams, mainly just lots of twitching and shuddering, all four legs shaking and sometimes her eyelids start shuddering and open showing her third eyelid (which is really creepy btw) but some nights I think maybe she is having a bad dream because she will make these little wimpers/yelps and howl in a manner that sounds like she's in pain. I normally wake her up when they are that bad because it's a bit distressing so I can imagine your boy's nightmares must be quite scary for you She's done this since a puppy, the slightly more intense dreams a bit more recently so I'm not really sure if there's an underlying problem or she just has a vivid imagination.
  10. I could do a cake or something else sweet, think Didi's litter mates all live a bit too far away and I don't know anybody else with nice dogs so it'll just be us.
  11. Sounds like your little Laci is quite the accomplished pup already luvsdogs I thiiiiink Didi is starting to come into her teenage naughty stage, she definitely seems to be pushing the boundaries a bit which is fine with me and my mum because we don't put up with it but my dad and brother are softies and let her get away with it I can't blame them though when you see how good her 'I'm just an innocent little puppy' face is. This was taken after she had a pretty ridiculous zoomie session and nearly broke a table and had the lead of shame put on.
  12. I was a bit hesitant to buy Didi a D&D coat because so far it hasn't been very cold and it won't fit her next winter plus I was more looking for something that'll keep her dry and the D&D waterproof coats don't have the chest piece. Next winter I'll be snapping one up though, they're really great.
  13. Awh! Yes it is a very pretty coat, I love the colour. If only Didi shared your enthusiasm about it...
  14. I probably should have specified that by 'riding up' I mean the coat will work its way up so the neck opening is right up by her ears and her bum/back uncovered so if anything the neck space needs to be tighter I think. The coat doesn't fit her thaaat well since she is much longer than she is tall/stocky and everything is already as tight as it can go and it's a bit loose so I thought the leg loops would just hold the coat in place and stop it from sliding all over her. It's really just an overcoat for obedience/walks/being left outside when it's really cold or raining so it doesn't need to be snug, just needs to stay in place.
  15. I know how you feel. My friend, fresh out of high school and currently at uni recently got a 'cavoodle' from a 'breeder' off gumtree (already problematic in itself) and every time I hear about the situation from a mutual friend I just want to She has never had a dog before or even mentioned interest in getting one so I doubt much research went into picking a breed or how to bring up a pup. She lives in an apartment in the city which is owned by and rented to her by her cousin who is fine with the puppy but she didn't tell her parents about it and now that she's gone home for the break they've had a puppy sprung on them and they don't want it but there's not much they can do. She hasn't considered any of the monetary costs beyond the initial purchase(like needing to get it groomed every 6 weeks, or pet insurance) and it sounds like already there are already behavioral problems, my mutual friend (who is fine around dogs) said that the puppy is terrified of her and won't come near her when she comes over which is a bit worrying considering how young the pup is, I don't think it knows much of a world outside her apartment. I can foresee this pup probably being left with mum and dad or moved along to somebody else when pup is no longer as cute/has expensive health problems/she wants to move or travel. I might offer for her to bring pup over to meet Didi and perhaps give her some advice but I feel like it will probably fall on deaf ears.
  16. Here's Didi in her new Weatherbeeta She looks really little in the photo but don't let it fool you... the coats a 70cm. We're having the problem of when she moves the coat rides up a lot so I was thinking of making to elastic loops for her back legs to stop the coat moving forward, sort of like the leg straps of a horse rug. Has anyone done this/have a different idea from stopping it riding up?
  17. We'll come :) eta. I'll ask some of Didi's litter mates if they can come.
  18. Here's my little water wuss. Shower's getting a bit on the small side and lifting a 34kg puppy who turns into a dead weight at the sight of the bath is also a bit of a no go
  19. I don't think it's been mentioned but make sure it knows at a young age to be gentle around small dogs (polite sit or down to greet or to just leave small dogs alone), don't let it get into the habit of playing really rough when it is little because obviously when it's full grown few dogs will appreciate that sort of play. Didi's a mastiff cross pup (though from a rescue and left the nest at 9 weeks), with both Mastiff, Dogue (apparently) and Dane in her and apart from a very mild skin allergy she has been very healthy so far, when she's finished growing I'm going to get her hips and elbows scored so I'll know if we can get into dog sports and stuff but I have just been really careful about her joints to give her the best chance. This means lifting the pup up and off of everything (a bit of a task now that she's 34 kilos but it's still easy enough to help her down off things), limited forced exercise on concrete (at 7.5 months 30 mins is my maximum and we don't do it everyday) and making sure they don't do too much crashing around with other dogs. Also training, training, training! Didi is pretty well behaved but every now and again her size and strength gets us into trouble (like lunging at birds and nearly pulling me over). NO JUMPING ON PEOPLE is a big one, Didi has jumped on a stranger once when much younger but jumping on strangers is the ultimate offence for me, if she tried it on we'd be going straight home as at her size it's more than just annoying, she could seriously hurt somebody, so make sure it's discouraged from the get go, lots of praise for being calm/on all four feet. Also I'm not too sure how much it costs to feed a medium size dog but Didi is on Canidae (so pretty expensive) with a bone/chicken frame/occasional sardines or mince and it costs about $20-25 dollars a week as she really doesn't need to eat that much of her food so I don't really get the whole 'how will they afford to feed it' thing, yes it's a bit more than other dogs but not ridiculous. Hopefully they're able to make the best out of a less than ideal situation, I came into this not knowing as much as I should have about large/giant breeds and Didi so far is a very good dog (ignoring 5 minutes ago when she ran through the house covered in poo)so it doesn't have to be all bad news. :)
  20. Poor Nova, fingers crossed everything's alright Lisa!
  21. Oh my goodness those ears (and that face) are adorable :)
  22. Really proud of the puppy today :) We had Obedience for the first time in 5 weeks and they were running an assessment to move up a class for those who had attended 5 or more classes... we'd only been to 4 and had a huge break but I decided to chance it anyway and we passed! She didn't care much about the ribbon though...
  23. That's so very sad Crits, I had a friend lose a 3 month old puppy the same way, very tragic. I imagine your little man knew nothing but a good life and will be able to rest peacefully :) Lisa, Nova has the cutest little nose! Looks like he enjoyed his little treat, I got froyo with a friend once and Didi was with me but she didn't even let me have the first spoonful before stealing a lick  Didi's treat for today was a big romp along the river since I've also been a bit under the weather and had to skip our walk yesterday. And one of her trying to chase some birdies (she's too slow and clumsy to get close to them) :)
  24. Must be her dainty lady legs  She just keeps growing taller and doesn't seem to bulk up much but I think she'll fill out more once her growth plates close. I think she's also losing some muscle definition in this colder weather... spends more time curled up on the couch than anything else, not a tough country boy like Fritz
  25. Thanks guys, I'll be sure to pay the compliments forward to the puppy... not that she needs it her head is already big enough
