  1. Hmm just had a quick read up about yeast infections in dogs and feeding potatoes can spark it. She had been on a dry food that had potato in it since being with us. I asked about potato in dry food and realised it wasn't such a good thing. So I'm no longer feeding that brand of food. Plus the cat version was making my cats vomit Hopefully with a diet change, her smell might lessen a little. I will ask the vet about it when she's booked in to be spayed.
  2. I'll look in to this product, thank you. We don't dry her off, maybe we should? Ivy has no doggy smell at all, Badger has a small amount and he's a boy and rolls in stuff he shouldn't. So I guess it is normal to think Tinker stinks. Awesome, thank you! I will sit down with a coffee and have a look through.
  3. I have an English Pointer and to think about it, he does get a little smelly too. But not as strong as the Lab, Tinker. I guess my nose will adjust to it and she has been at the beach a lot this summer. My partner is the Lab lover! I'm the Belgian Shepherd girl :)
  4. We adopted a younger [age unknown] entire female Labrador late last year. She's great but she always seems to have a strong doggy smell. She swims at the ocean a lot at the moment and I have bathed her once. Her diet is good now she's with us. Lots of raw meat and bones. What else would make her smell? Does the doggy smell take awhile to leave their system? Should I try bathing her again? I smell it the most when she's in my car going to the beach. I'm keeping a close her on her and for when she comes in to season but hopefully we will have her desexed before she cycles again. Could being entire make her smell more?
  5. Does that mean there's some central recording point where people can indicate they'll help with animals. If so, excellent! Yeah there is. I have filled out the form with my information and they'll gather it and I guess contact everyone. Jacquie Humphrey of Dog Logics lives in the middle of the fire zone. I've spoken to her about an hour ago and she stayed till 4:30pm to fight the fire but it got too bad, so she's left with her dogs. She's safe with all her dogs at a friends place. She has no idea if her home is safe yet She had to leave her sheep behind.
  6. I'm doing a pick up of donated goods in my area and taking them to the various drop off points in the hills. Plus I've put my name down to help with some animals in need.
  7. I'm looking at upgrading my grooming tools for Miss Ivy. Can anyone please suggest a great online store with a good selection with mid range prices? Thank you :)
  8. My parents have a used crate for sale in Perth WA, if you're interested, let me know and I can tell you the finer details. Mum bought it for her Pointer puppy but decided against using it in the end. It is one of the older style ones, so it is solid as :) I'm 95% it will be large enough to suit your Sibe as an adult.
  9. Thought that was the case. Is it ... a) no different to grains b) better than grains c) worse than grains That's not correct. A lot of the corn in kibble these days is GMO and confirmed with a number of kibble co's when I did the last lot of research for our Dane feed guide. Can you please explain what you mean? I don't quite understand.
  10. Their process of checking for green potatoes etc
  11. I'm thinking of emailing the brand I currently have and asking them re: green potatoes.
  12. Poor Badger and Ivy. I do see what Jed means, she has worded it VERY badly. Working full time and taking home a breed of puppy [mixed or pure] you have not researched and is too energetic for your courtyard will not work out in most households. But doing this and not working full time can also lead to disaster. I took home a Belgian Shepherd puppy and I was a full time worker, at the time. Ivy is now a very well adjusted 5 and a half year old.
  13. Ahhh I should have known that Just googled it and yeah, they are not related. I have no issues with feeding my dogs grains, to a degree, but I do have issues with food containing potato. Even though now I have my pack on limited dry food but I still won't buy a misleading brand again. I ask as I did just buy a small 2kg bag of a leading USA made food and hadn't paid attention to what was in it.
  14. Oh wow, great information. Thank you Did they say sweet potato also caused the same issues as normal potato?
  15. Thought that was the case. Is it ... a) no different to grains b) better than grains c) worse than grains
  16. Most that state grain free have potato. So yes.
  17. So I'm wondering your thoughts on potato in the top five ingredients of some dry food? Though it seems to be in most USA brands. Is it more as a "filler" or do dogs actually benefit from it? **note** This isn't a brand bashing thread
  18. So I've done a small amount of training with Inka. She didn't bite me today, woohoo. I just got a very wet hand. When my closed fist appeared at her height, she did her "snort, I'm going to bite you for that food" sound but then she went straight to being a little settled and licked at my hand for the food. After a few moments of her just licking, I opened my palm flat and she took the food without teeth She's also getting great with me putting cream on her sore ears. I do loop the leash over her muzzle and hold it under her throat, this calms her right down and I can get the cream in the right spot. Another bonus, she's eating her food slower too! I think we're doing well after only a week of her being here :D
  19. I have no idea if this is what Ivy had but she had lipomas removed October 2012 and she had quite a lot taken out. They grew back in the same place within a few months but no where as major as the first time. They don't seem to be growing at all. I don't plan on having these removed anytime soon but may in the future.
  20. Thanks persephone That is kind of what I have been doing. Though pulling my hand away when she goes to snatch and I have had a few nice takes from her.
  21. So our new rescue Labrador female will snatch food from your hand if you're not watchful. She has bitten me a few times! I want this stopped ASAP!!!! I plan on signing her up with a dog school in early 2014, so I want to nip this in the butt now. She looks to me for guidance but I honestly have no idea how to work with a Labrador. She's pretty energetic. Badger is learning she's OK to play with now. Tell me how to start and what to do please.
  22. I have used Dogtainers three times with no issues at all. I have also had a Belgian Shepherd puppy sent from Midniara in Tasmania to Perth WA, via a Melbourne stop over, with Dogtainers. After the issue with Jet Pets, I wouldn't go near them at all.
